Water Buffalo Bubalus bubalis

A domestic bovid originating in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) is most probably the ancestor of the domestic water buffalo. Water buffaloes are especially suitable for tilling rice fields, and their milk is richer in fat and protein than that of dairy cattle.

So, here's a little mystery.

I didn't put those blue marks on the eggs. I don't own anything that would be able to put blue marks on eggs. There's nothing blue in their pens or nests- they're on cement or raw soil, with straw or wood shavings.

It's not specific to one hen. I have found at least one in every pen every year, regardless of who is in the pen.

They can't be rubbed off, or at least not with anything I've tried.

They don't appear on all of the eggs, but maybe 1 in 20 eggs will have these weird blue marks on them that look like they're drawn on crayon.

There's no pattern like "it's the first egg of every hen every year" or something. If there's a pattern, I haven't recognized it yet.
