04.06.2017 // I did four (double) lectures worth of readings. I think my brain has stopped working now.
05.04.19
happy april and happy friday!
today, i was quite productive: i worked out, wrote an essay of 1700 words, sent two emails which i’ve been procrastinating, and made a birthday card for my dad! i still want to finish an essay of 400 words before tonight. and that wraps up my to-do list for today!
sending positive thoughts, a warm mug of your favorite beverage (spring herbal tea for me), and your favorite snack bar (nakd blueberry muffin)! ☕️
Slowly getting back into the swing of things, both school-wise and creatively. Midterms are coming up and I hope I can be productive as I was last semester!
Now Playing:
Press Restart- WALK THE MOON
Waves- Young the Giant
there isn’t much happening atm but just me watching aesthetic study vlogs all day long. i’ve also managed to accomplish the following:
finished all my pending journal reviews
paid current month’s credit card bill
ordered new bed sheet with floral design
started reading another dostoyevsky story
i plan to save up enough money thru my part-time writing job so i can buy a new gadget that i’ve been eyeing on since i got addicted to watching study vlogs, haha!
1 april 2021 —
happy april! i’ve been doing the same spread style for about a year now so i decided to try something new! i’m not sure how much i like it, but at least it was really fun to make ♡ also kinda just realized that i only have 4 weeks left of classes + finals week and then i’m done with my freshman year of college??? ok

Any chronically ill studyblrs around? How do you guys deal with the unbalanced good to bad day ratio?
I am getting so frustrated at my own chronic fatigue hitting at the worst time and really not able to work around it well. I'm not sure if I'm doing too much on the good days that the bad days hit me so much that I can't function or if I need to start working around a different kind of timetable and doing my work when I can't actually sleep at night and I'm not having external distractions etc.
I'm still on track to submit on time, but it's so frustrating to be doing well for days to then have one super bad day and dealing with the migraine-type headache that hits the days following. Just no consistency and honestly it's frightening me and the potential impact to my future employment once I'm done with the PhD.
I'm a person that is used to doing all the time so having to slow down and listen to my body is not something I have ever had to do until this time last year. I am still comparing me now to me before the fatigue arrived and I think that makes my frustration worse. I just feel so unproductive.
First of all, you’re not alone. I have a writing coach (and therapist) primarily for the reason that I’m worried I won’t finish my dissertation.
If you’re not well acquainted with your illness, spend time getting to know your own body. This might include researching your illness, journaling, or just paying attention to what your body does. Your baseline is different than others (no baseline is truly “normal,” but it’s important to know how you function so that you can be more productive).
When I was in coursework, I was well acquainted with my epilepsy and breezed through courses because I understood what triggered my seizures: lack of sleep and stress. So, I functioned on an incredibly rigid schedule. Then in 2018, I came down with an infection that I never recovered from and was subsequently diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis.
You mention exhaustion and how one thing (such as a headache) can disrupt your schedule, which is common with a lot of awful illnesses. This is my annoyance with autoimmune diseases, hence why it’s important to understand your body and your triggers.
1. As mentioned above, listen to your body because it will guide on how to care for it. Sugar is a massive trigger for me, for example.
2. Don’t push yourself to work every day. Your body needs to recharge, especially if it’s under stress.
3. With that, rethink productivity. If I get an idea, I jot it down on a sticky note, but if I am in a flare, I don’t push myself to work. Productivity looks different for each person, too. Productivity is not working every day. You will burn yourself out if you do this.
4. Talk to your committee. I learned this lesson from someone on tumblr because I don’t like disclosing my illnesses to people. My doctors and committee suggested I take medical leave after five consecutive surgeries (Thanks, AS) and it did a world of good for my brain and body. But it wasn’t until my committee knew what was going on that they were able to appropriately support me.
5. Rethink what you want in terms of a job. I wanted a tenure track job, but since I was diagnosed with AS I’ve thought about employment quite differently. I have a wonderful job at a university that supports me. It’s not research-heavy (which has always been my dream), but I get to teach fun classes and I’m not stressed. There are other approaches to research outside academia, too. None of this means you have to give up your dreams, either.
6. This is a tough one: realize you probably won’t get better but you may not get sicker. Health isn’t a linear process; it’s cyclical. This though process has significantly helped me because I “gave up” things I loved and I resented that for a long time. Once I realized all of the new hobbies and activities that have come into my life, then I realized I can approach my health in a different way.
7. Lastly, talk to your doctor about a treatment plan to finish your PhD. If your doctor is not supportive, see if you can find a different doctor.
I hope that this helps and please know that you’re not alone. It sucks to feel sick and alone, especially during the PhD where we’re constantly told productivity looks a certain way. Let me know if you want to chat.
Sunday study session with my bestie 💕
Returned to my dorm yesterday. I just couldn’t concentrate on my paper with my family and friends around. Hopefully I’ll finish it until the deadline.
saturday, march 6 • a february recap & march setup
my march bullet journal spread was inspired by my recent feb-cover-up situation 👀 because i’m actually quite liking the additional pOP! of color that i can add into my bujo with the random construction paper i have lying around uwu but ya dis an overview of my spreads that i made in a 10pm-dimly-lit-tired-trance last weekend hAHaha
also im not sure of where to take photos now in my new apt (i miss my old room’s lighting during golden hour ft. the nice flowy curtains), but i’ll figure it out this is small potatoes u know what i’m sayin’
sometimes you just gotta review your notes in bed!
