Darjeeling is a town in India's West Bengal state, in the Himalayan foothills. Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881. It's famed for the distinctive black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes. Its backdrop is Mt. Kanchenjunga, among the world’s highest peaks. 

While Darjeeling is known for its beautiful scenery, including pine forests, there isn't a specific, commonly used name for a "Darjeeling pine forest" as a singular entity. Instead, you'll find pine trees and forests scattered throughout the region, particularly in areas like Lepchajagat and near Senchal Lake. 

Pine trees, known as dhupi in Darjeeling, were introduced by the British and are now a prominent feature of the region's landscape. While they provide timber and firewood, their presence is also linked to concerns about water sources drying up, land erosion, and the potential for less biodiversity due to their impact on undergrowth.
