"Camera with Flash"

These are what I ended up doing for my final project, focusing on American identity and patriotism.

For these images, I wanted to channel the weirdness of the movie as well as putting a more modern, micro perspective on it.

Pretty simple work here, just wanted to capture the visual irony of the first picture and thought the newspaper would look really cool with the 3D effect. The panorama was just to capture the beauty of the fall behind my house.

Wanted to experiment with shutter speed and light for these ones. The first was achieved from a slow shutter speed, while the second was on the bulb setting.

Just wanted to showcase my partner (of course) and then when I went to the bathroom I thought, “Ha wouldn’t that be ironic” so I took a pic of myself. My friend’s rat had a leg amputated tonight and he was sitting on two warm water-filled gloves, both pictured in the last image.

Similarly to the color set, I wanted to show the interaction of light itself with different objects and in different situations - so here, seeing through the bill, bright overhead light creating defined shadows, and a small light in the darkness.

I wanted to emphasize brightness, darkness, and bright backlighting’s influence on the way color is shown. Contrast was the most important factor for me here.

I love my dog and she was just lying perfectly for the first shot. I left to go look upstairs and she ran ahead and waited, prompting the second image. And when I looked into the dark room I wondered how long I’d need to set the shutter speed to make a proper exposure.

I tried to find ways to use different ISOs to emphasize the texture in the images. The kitchen sink light is very yellow and warm, and I wanted to show the light reflecting off the path and almost make the wood ultra detailed and textured.

My little sister needed some outside time and I needed to take some pics, so the forces aligned! I wanted to capture her in motion, crisply and not, as well as a shot of one of the many creeks behind my house. The high shutter speed created darker images than I hoped for but I really like how they turned out.

I was influenced by the lines and shapes of the sculptures, which is something I tried to capture in these images.

My conception of aperture and depth of field comes down to how much I love micro photography. I love little things taken in great focus and, using the correct f/stop, making them isolated from the environment around them.
