I HAVE to laugh at the concept of shoplifting harming retail workers. Shoplifting has never harmed a retail worker, there are funds given to stores to cover losses caused by shoplifting. If anything, retail workers are given ways to benefit personally by catching shoplifters in a way that turns the working class against itself. Most companies encourage workers to catch shoplifters for meager cash reward in a cycle that turns the working class against itself. How can we as a cohesive marginalized economic class mobilize against our oppressors if we’re fucking each other over?

So, while legally, you cannot detract from an employee’s paycheck for merchandise stolen on their shift, you can lower wages for everyone if profits begin to be hurt by shoplifting. While you put on an air of ‘fuck capitalism’, you can’t disregard your affects on others by stealing luxury items and call it revolution. Actions like these hurt nobody but the bottom line, any way you run it.
