Eric smiled at the other man. âItâs alright. No harm done. No use crying over spilt milk, or well, coffee in this case.â He lets out a soft but awkward laugh. âOh,â he said a bit disappointed. He should have texted her beforehand to see if she was working. He wasnât going to let his excursion that day be a waste though! âI do like ocean-y stuff. Iâll definitely look around.â He glances in the direction that the sandwich seemed to be pointing to. âOh, yeah? Does it still work and have all the parts?â
âStill...â If he had more money, heâd offer to replace them, but he didnât have enough money for his own lunch today, so he let himself trail off. At least he hadnât run into anyone awful. Either way, he saw the guyâs expression at âno Arielâ, and he couldnât help but grin. âDonât worry, sheâs on shift. Her lunch break just doesnât involve running.â Now fiddling with the paper his sandwich had been wrapped in, Aladdin tried to remember anything about the RC boat. âIt should, if we paid as much as we did for it. Controller might need batteries or something, though. I can double check it for you, if you want.â

âI would certainly hope not. That would just be rude.â She added with a small laugh. It was something Belle could easily shake off, her curiosity was struck and thatâs why she was here. Looking around she nodded softly as she took in what he was saying. âWell, arenât you a rebel. Youâre also wrong. This is⌠really interesting. I havenât been in a pawn show in ages. My father used to bring me to them all the time. The things he would find to try and rebuild , make new of it..â She smiled of the memory of it all. âMust be kinda cool to be in a place like this and see all you see, right?âÂ
Aladdin felt like his brain was whirring away like a windup toy at her words. The only job he could get? Interesting? Alright. She was a smart lady. Those were fun. âUh, it depends on the day, to be honest. Most of the time itâs just...jewelry.â For emphasis, he pointed down to the case in front of him, full of watches and rings and all other kinds of basics. He could remember most of the people that came in to pawn jewelry, and he sort of wished he couldnât. âAnd most of the time...the people are desperate. But yeah, we get some fun stuff. My favorites are the old game stuff. Iâve been catching up as it all comes in.â
Belle hadnât expected someone to be in such a rush as they wizzed past her. Though it did catch her curiosity. The never to write about it was itching at her. As if it could strike some sort of inspiration for a new character or story. Someone in that much of a rush, had to have a story to follow. So she did, watching his movements till she found herself at a pawn shop. With a light smile she walked in and laughed. âI promise Iâm not here to yell at you for almost making me kiss the sidewalk. I just.. wanted to know what all the hurry was about as if I was missing something.âÂ
âSorry,â Aladdin started with a genuine sheepish grin on his face. âI donât usually go around smacking into people.â He was usually better at dodging, to be honest, but the sidewalk had been weirdly packed today, and he hadnât been able to easily get up the side of a building to go above like he might have. âAnd Iâm extra sorry because the hurry wasnât anything interesting. I was just grabbing lunch, and Iâm not technically supposed to leave the shop by itself.â The struggle of not having anything to bring with him, he guessed. Breaking more rules.
âItâs quite all right,â Prilla replied to his apology, having already forgiven him for the mistake. She understood better than anyone that break time could fly by if you didnât make the most of itâespecially when it came to getting something to eat, and lunch was one of the most important meals of the day (along with breakfast, brunch, tea time, dinner, desert, and midnight snack.) That seemed a little lost on the store employee though, who claimed not to be a lunch person, despite sounding pretty hungry to her if his growling stomach was any indication.
She reached into her bag and found a prettily-wrapped package of cookies, pulling them out with a grin. âYouâre lucky Iâm always prepared with a snack!â she said, making her way over with a bounce in her step to place the treat on the counter. âMy friend baked these. Sheâs a magician in the kitchen. Just save me one, will you, please?â
Aladdin felt himself freeze up. On one hand, he didnât like to be completely rude. On the other, he also really didnât like taking handouts. It just felt sort of wrong, since he could take care of himself. So, he came up with a plan and just took the cookie that was closest to him. One would be like...a tip if he was a waiter. Right? Yeah.
âThanks, but Iâll just take this one. Trying to watch my figure.â What figure he had to watch, that was. âAnd itâs cheat night tonight.â Cheat as in heâd probably have to cheat a store out of itâs stock, but that still counted. âWhat kind are they?â he asked, taking another bite of his sort of sad sandwich.
Elsaâs journey to find out more about her magic continued. She had gone through each book store and library in town to get some answers, but what she found was very minimal. Her next step was to look at thrift stores and pawn shops, to maybe see if they had a hidden gem somewhere that could help her. Elsa entered the pawn shop unsure of what to expect, and she gave a friendly smile to the other. âHi,â she said simply, pausing as she thought of what to say. She wanted to be vague and not be suspicious about what exactly she was looking for. âI just wanted to see what books you might have? Some more rare ones, perhaps?â
Taking a moment to make sure he didnât have crumbs on him, Aladdin nodded before pointing to the general area where they kept books. âMost of itâs over there, but you might wanna do a full walk around, I know people move things. No idea if anythingâs really rare, though.â He knew they had some books bound in leather, with yellow pages, but most book titles didnât really mean anything to him. âIf you need help, Iâll be...here.â And with that, he let himself open up his bag of chips. One customer didnât end lunch time, especially when lunch was evidence.

Eric had been on his way to the pawn shop purely to see Ariel. He wasnât positive she was working, but showed up with two coffees nonetheless. Well, at least that was his plan. Someone had been running down the street and knocked into him which caused Eric to drop both drinks onto the ground. He felt a little defeated after that, thinking maybe he should just turn around and go home, but just tossed the now empty cups in a nearby bin. Entering the pawn shop he was greeted by none other than the man that had run into him. Eric wasnât going to make a big deal out of it though. âIs Ariel here?â he asked in response. âIf not, Iâll just browse around and see if you have any cool ships in bottles or something.â
Aladdin scratched the back of his neck, feeling supremely awkward. He didnât really keep up with other peopleâs business, but he felt bad that heâd apparently cost a coworker a free coffee. âI ran into you, didnât I? Sorry,â he apologized, ducking his head and checking the register. He wasnât supposed to have left it, but... âAnd uh, no, sheâs not here right now, but sheâll probably be back soon. Thereâs a bunch of ocean-y stuff over there.â He gestured with his sandwich half, towards a mirror set into a shipâs wheel. âI think weâve still got an RC boat, if you like those.â
Aladdin was sitting on the floor of his apartment, trying his best to ignore his surroundings as he focused on fixing a belt loop on his favorite pair of jeans. Heâd torn it at work, getting it caught on a drawer, and now he had to face the consequences. God knew he wasnât going to go pay for an entire new pair of jeans if he didnât have to. Of course, his focus was broken as soon as he heard the front door slam open, and he looked up to see none other than Naveen. Well, this was going to take even longer. âI donât remember inviting you over,â he teased, trying to keep a completely straight face. @maldonaveenâ
It was funny that the man who had almost bowled her over on the sidewalk happened to go right into the very same shop that was her destination. Luckily, Prilla had a cheerful disposition and took the incident with a grain of saltâshe couldnât be upset over an accident, after all. Smiling at his offer of help, she realized that he was an employee of the pawn shop, standing behind the counter. She noticed, as well, that he was eating.
âOh, are you supposed to be on your lunch break? That must be why you were running! Well, thank you, sir. I wonât be bothering you too much; Iâll just be browsingâŚâ It seemed she couldnât leave it at that, though, looking up from the antiques she had been inspecting for a moment. Her own stomach began to complain at the sight of the manâs meal. âIâm sorry. Is that all youâre eating?â
He gave her a sheepish grin. âUh, lunch breaks are kinda tight here, honestly. Sorry I ran into you.â Aladdin really did feel bad about it. He usually did his best to not run into women, children, or old people when he was making a break for it. At least this woman was seemingly pretty nice.
When she said that she was planning on browsing, Aladdin gave an encouraging nod and gestured to the store as a sort of âgood luckâ to her. You didnât always find what you wanted, but it was always fun to look. âHm? Oh, yeah, just this. I...Iâm not always a lunch person, you know?â He shot her another smile and hoped that his stomach didnât growl. And of course, it immediately did. âI mean, I guess I am today, but I donât need much.â
Jasmine was not there to see Aladdin, even though she was sure it looked that way. Yes, she enjoyed seeing him, and yes she did have a habit of getting lost in the moment with him a lot, but she was not there for him. She was trying to find a new necklace, yeah that was it. A new necklace. Seeing the look on his face she just chuckled. âCan you? You look like youâve done something you shouldnât have. And I donât think itâs eating on the counter there.â
Aladdin straightened up when he fully realized it was Jasmine. She was cool enough that he wanted to make himself look decent. âUh, nope, nothing I shouldnât do,â he answered, keeping the âespecially if you ask anarchistsâ comment to himself. He wasnât about to start in. âI mean...maybe I shouldnât eat this flavor of chips? Theyâre not super good.â He grinned and shrugged, trying to stay casual. âI can be super helpful, though. Unless youâre wanting to buy the old walkman over there, because Iâm getting that with my next paycheck.â
âHello I want to ask if you want to try these tea cakes and scones?â Dee lifts the little basket up for him, âIt is all free samples and if you have good or even bad feedback please text it to the number on the card.â They smile, âThere is homemade teabags for you also, the flavor I made for fall is apple cinnamon harvest.â
Aladdin felt any tension leave his body. Free samples? He could definitely work with that, as long as he didnât go too far and embarrass himself. âOh, sure! Happy to try some!â he answered with a grin, leaning forward and picking up one of the little cakes. Out of habit, he inspected it, and took a bite. âWow, those are really good. You made those?â

Aladdin had taken the path back to work at a bit of a run, but as soon as he was back behind the pawn shop counter, he let himself relax, pulling his stolen lunch from the inside pocket of his jacket. It wasnât much, just a wrapped deli sandwich and some chips, but it was lunch. And he just started eating it when someone came into the store pretty shortly after him. Someone who he may or may not have smacked into on the street. Oops. âUh, hi. Can I help you?â he asked, after a sort of painful swallow.
Aladdin has always been unlucky, but heâs tried to never really let that get to him. Yeah, he was abandoned as a kid, and yeah heâs always been broker than broke, but heâs not miserable. He might not have a place to live where everything is in perfect working order, but at least heâs got a job. He might be terrified that Jafar is going to kill him one day soon if he canât get that weird lamp, but hey, heâs not been stabbed yet, right? Aladdinâs taking it one day at a time and trying his best to make sure heâs got many more days to go. And thatâs about all he can do, right?
 Headcannons:
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Aladdin cannot remember the last time heâs had more than ten dollars in his wallet. The ten-dollar bill that is currently in his wallet is the âemergency moneyâ that he keeps on him to give to someone who needs food more than he does. The money comes and goes pretty easily, especially if Aladdin hears a teen complaining about being hungry.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Aladdin isnât very good at reading. He likes stories, but he got sort of lost in the whole figuring out how to put that many words together. Of course, he can read signs, and he knows a lot of basics, but if anything is more complicated than a kidâs book or a guidebook, he always tries to find audio instead.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â He picked up very useful money-saving skills early in life. Aladdin knows how to sew to fix up his clothes, knows what kind of plants are perfectly safe to eat, and knows exactly when and how to get around security at grocery stores to take what he might need off their hands. It used to embarrass him a little when he was younger, but heâs long since gotten over that. Paying rent is more important.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Found a GameBoy SP as a kid and after fixing it up, he kept it. Could he probably save up to eventually buy some newer video games? Sure. But he prefers to stick to paying a few dollars for the games that show up at work. And you canât go wrong with Harvest Moon.
-Â Â Â Â Even after years of being probably too old for it, his go-to look to get out of trouble is still Puppy Eyes. Even after years that Puppy Eyes shouldnât work, they still manage to get him out of some stuff. Aladdin will keep using them until they officially run out of power.
-Â Â Â Â Will do almost literally anything for money, as long as it isnât charity. Heâs never been good at just being given stuff freely, and needs to feel like heâs earned things. This is why he doesnât celebrate his birthday.
-Â Â Â Â Hates raisins after a childhood incident involving a snack that was supposed to just be regular Ants on a Log. Other people can eat them and thatâs fine, but his brain wonât let him eat them ever now.
