Don Nace
The Don Nace drawing “Just Passing Through” (the first in photoset) has had a fairly decent internet presence for the past 7 years. The artist was commissioned to do the artwork for Across the Universe (2007) created by the character of Jude (played by Jim Sturgess). For this particular piece he wanted to create something that accurately captured the loss of Lucy to Jude, which seemed to resonate with the masses. He also created the infamous exploding strawberry icon.
I’ve been a fan of Nace’s work since I saw that first piece, but only recently did I stumble across his blog, featuring drawings he’s posted almost daily.
Prior to researching him further, I was inexplicably under the impression he was some sort of mysterious recluse who had died (by suicide, no doubt). Which was definitely a romantic persona for the individual behind these darkly beautiful drawings. However, I am fairly pleased to see that he is not, in fact, dead but definitely alive, and still drawing.
