Could you share with us some of your favorite books about POCs? I feel like I read so many things that do it wrong, I'd like to read some works that do it right! (I am Teen Librarian so YA suggestions are especially appreciated, as I will pass them along to patrons at my library.) Thanks for all the awesome advice!
Diverse Book Recommendations
For YA, I recommend Ellen Oh’s Prophecy series. I’ve also heard Nnedi Okorafor’s Akata Witch is excellent. You may want to check out weneeddiversebooks for more suggestions

By “about poc” I’m thinking you mean that are diverse? I say check out our book recommendations tag for some picks. A lot of my fave diverse books are only in ebook form that i’m aware of, such as Faerie Blood by Angela Korra’ti, but I can definitely recommend Fire Baptized by Kenya Wright, the first of the Santeria Habitat series. It’s dark urban fantasy, paranormal romance. Great touches of humor, action, and plot-twists.This one’s more Adult, though.
I really enjoyed Chained by Elise Marion as well. Medieval-esque tale with Black heroine. Scandal, war, girl power, romance…loved it. Also a bit more adult, if not New Adult, though.
And i’m not through the whole thing, but i’m liking the Long Hidden speculative fiction anthology so far. Hearing great things about it too.
Hope that’s a start!

I’d love to recommend some solid titles:
Eon and Eona by Allison Goodman. It’s set in a Chinese based society and has a very prominent trans character who I positively adore.
The Lotus Wars series by Jay Lake. It’s set in a steampunk Japan, and I really like it so far.
A lot of stuff by Tamora Piece features POC characters. All are very well rounded and fleshed out.
That’s my two cents. Hope you enjoy!

Does anyone else have a problem with the circumstances of that kiss? Hook made Emma feel like he owed her. You don’t OWE him anything sexual, EVER.
NO! HE WAS PLAYING SHE KISSED HIM NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND AND SHE DIDN’T JUST STOP…
When did she say she didn’t like him though?
She’s the one who flirted the idea of a kiss, he was motioning to his lips but thats it….
Okay, poor wording. She didn't say she didn't like him, but she said she did not want his advances. At the beginning of the episode, when she called him out for trying to "bond" with her and said to stop it. Then right before the kiss, when she said she had already said "thank you," she was avoiding the kiss.
I know the Captain Swan fans are really excited about this, so sorry if I'm ruining your moment. I just have to call it out when I see something that I think contributes to rape culture. I'm sure the writers didn't mean it, but they need to think about these things. She could have kissed him WITHOUT him implying that she "owed" it to him, and that would have been fine.

NO! HE WAS PLAYING SHE KISSED HIM NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND AND SHE DIDN’T JUST STOP AT A PECK…….DUH
She said explicitly that she did not like him, then she said she didn't want to give him more gratitude than a thank you, then she kissed him, then she said she would never do it again.
I just think it would be a lot better if they kissed without any outside factors playing in. Because people really DO agree to sexual acts because they think they "owe" it to somebody. Why walk that fine line with this show? Why no just have a nice, normal kiss that doesn't resemble a serious problem many people face?
I'm don't ship anyone in particular. It's not a commentary on the pairing. I'm just looking at this objectively.

I had so much fun watching and ranting and emoting with our little fandom. Copper fans, you are such a creative and fun group of people. It's been real.
