Took me a minute but I thought we’d seen this before.

When our first lady wears a jacket printed with a known fascist slogan, it’s way beyond normal.  

Me ne frego is a phrase used by Mussolini (originally in Italian, of course, a language Melania speaks) to further the fascist cause.  Originally in a poem by a none-too-democratic poet, it was taken and used repeatedly for the dark side .  

Interestingly, the verb fregare does not usually mean ‘care.’ Importare is more common, I think. Mi importa davvero seems to mean “I really care. Frego is slang. It means give a damn (or your favorite expletive).  Fregare has as one of its meanings CHEAT, STEAL, SWINDLE and FOOL, Oh my. Not a rhyme for children.

Melania almost certainly knew what she was doing.  In English the phrase is translated as “I really don’t care” with “do you?” added.  There is no plausible reason to wear this phrase when making a visit to a shelter filled with children who have been traumatized by the policies of her husband.  I thought the worst was her insensitivity, but no...

It’s likely that, even if she didn’t know the phrase, a staffer did - along with its treasonous history.  People, this is literally treason, the crime of betraying one’s country.

ME FREGO = I give a damn.  If anyone knows how to say “I ‘sooo’ give a damn” in Italian, send me an email will you?

I have printed these signs on linen. Once they dry, I’ll iron them to set the ink.  If you would like one to sew onto a bag, a shirt, a jacket (possibly the best choice) send me an email if in Asheville until they run out. This one’s going in my car. It looks handmade because it’s not made by a fascist.
