My Watsonian reason none of the lore in Artemis Fowl is consistent is because the books are basically a re-telling of the actual events from the perspective of many different characters, from Artemis own diaries and Dr. Argonβs psychological accounts/profiles of Artemis. This happens after Artemis dies and theyβre telling his clone everything.
Essentially, all this leads to wires getting crossed, some people telling their own understanding of magic, the LEP, the abilities of different species, etc., because itβs not coming from person or a unbiased βtrueβ account.
My Doylist reason is the Eoin Colfer truly does forget pretty much everything he wrote once he finishes a book and just writes some fun bs every new book.
