A protoplanetary disk is a rotating circumstellar disk of dense gas and dust surrounding a young newly formed star, a T Tauri star, or Herbig Ae/Be star. The protoplanetary disk may also be considered an accretion disk for the star itself, because gases or other material may be falling from the inner edge of the disk onto the surface of the star. This process should not be confused with the accretion process thought to build up the planets themselves. Externally illuminated photo-evaporating protoplanetary disks are called proplyds.

The nebular hypothesis of solar system formation describes how protoplanetary disks are thought to evolve into planetary systems. Electrostatic and gravitational interactions may cause the dust and ice grains in the disk to accrete into planetesimals. This process competes against the stellar wind, which drives the gas out of the system, and gravity (accretion), which pulls material into the central T Tauri star.

My heart skipped a beat when I came across this remix that unites two of our faves into one gorgeously captivating song. Atlanta based indie rock/alt rock veterans Manchester Orchestra put out one of our favorite albums last year in the form of A Black Mile to the Surface, and one of the best songs off the record is undoubtedly The Gold. Syracuse baroque pop and indie rock darlings Ra Ra Riot have given the song a beautiful and understated remix treatment, with softly churning electronic elements awash in dreamy ambling introspection. Accompanying the remix is another official remix of The Gold by Melbourne’s Slow Dancer, which you can stream below. It’s a slow waltzing beauty, too, that simmers tenderly and sadly. At this point, the guy who had reeled him in had literally fallen over in shock, and the other people with him were scared shitless. The warden whipped some citations out of a plastic bag in his wetsuit, made the trespassers sign them, asked if they had any questions, and then gathered all of their fishing gear. And he just.
