Something was off, Ryuji had noticed.

Something was definitely off with his detective boyfriend. Normally he’d approach someone right away if they seemed anxious, but with Akechi, his own boyfriend, Ryuji didn’t want to mess anything up or seem too sudden. That’s why when Ryuji got back from shopping with him, he immediately sat down on the sofa next to Akechi and sighed.

“Look, man,” Ryuji began. Don’t sound too awkward.

Akechi knew that “man” was referring to the only other man in the apartment the two lived in together. But... he didn’t really want to believe it.

“...Yes?”

“You-”

Ryuji looked up at him, taking a moment to gaze at Akechi. “You... you’ve been less yourself lately. Has work and shit gotten to you? You can take a break, ya know!”

“Well, I suppose that’s way to word it,” Akechi softly replied. His posture stiffened ever so slightly that if you blinked, you’d miss the moment it happened. But Ryuji didn’t blink. Not in this sort of situation.

“I’ve been dealing with a stressful case, love. It’s gotten out of hand. It’s gone cold. I... I think it’s all my fault...”

“What?! No fucking way it’s your fault! You’re amazing, man!” Ryuji exclaimed, hugging onto Akechi defensively. Akechi let a dry laugh.

“...”

His body began to shake a bit, much to Ryuji’s surprise.

“Wh-Why do you say that?” Akechi asked, his voice trembling, waving, swaying in all sorts of tones of more or less obvious distress. Ryuji clicked his tongue, wrapping an arm around Akechi, and reassuringly smiled at him.

“Because you’re always hardworking. I don’t normally say this sappy shit, but that means when I do, I mean it.”

“...Thank you... but... I’m not calming down,” the detective replied, rubbing his hands together. Ryuji frowned.

This is it. The last resort. Never thought I’d have to go to this, Ryuji thought. His eyes darted back to Akechi. But if it calms him down, I’ll do it!

A voice, a beautiful masculine one, caught Akechi’s attention. He turned over to face Ryuji, whose eyes were closed softly. Each note was hit perfectly. The tension in Akechi’s body released, coming to a sudden stop.

“...Ryuji...”

“Y-Yeah, I wrote that,” Ryuji stuttered, turning away stubbornly. “I thought that if I practiced singing, I’d become good at it, and... damn it...”

“You sounded lovely!” Akechi laughed. He wrapped his arms around Ryuji and peppered him in kisses, scattering them all around the latter’s face.

The two of you were waiting in the café together, as you had invited Mishima and Akechi to the café. Rise was busy thumbing away on her phone, most likely checking out some social media posts.

Rise, however, was still skeptical of these two. At the same time, she was quite excited; of course, a mix of the two was expected from a bit of a daredevil like her. She glanced up at you.

“[N/A]-Chan, are you ready to meet them?” She asked, breaking the silence of the almost empty café. You met eyes with your older sister, who folded her arms. It almost seemed as if she was trying a bit too hard to seem businesslike, making you chuckle.

“Obviously. If I wasn’t ready I wouldn’t invite them.”

“I wonder what they’re like? ...Hmm... I hope one of them is hot.” Rise’s eyes began to glitter, adding a touch of life to them. Of course Rise was thinking about that...

“No,” you exclaimed. She tilted her head.

“Huh? Don’t tell me my little sis is getting all defiant on me now~!”

“It’s not that! I feel like... sure, appearance can be important, but the personality matters more to me as a person. You get that?”

“Yeah, I guess,” Rise huffed, “but don’t you want to see a cute boy every once in a while? Or are you lesbian?”

“I’m not a lesbian, Rise!” You playfully stood up from your hair, leaning forward and pushing Rise to the side. Her chair wobbled and lost its balance.

“Uwah—”

CATCH!

Someone had run into the café to save the day!

He had short hazel brown hair along with chocolate-colored eyes, elegantly ducking down and catching the dramatic sister you knew to be Rise in his arms. Rise’s eyes widened as she looked the man up and down.

“Oh... thank you, cutie!”

“Cutie? As for that, I’m not quite sure, but no problem,” he said, standing up alongside Rise. He turned over to you, waving.

“Thank you for having me today.”

“Ah— No problem!” You replied, waving back at the man. Rise put her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow.

“So-So wait, who is this guy?”

“My name is Akechi. Goro Akechi.” Akechi bowed slightly before a small smile graced his lips. “But please, just refer to me as Akechi.”

But where was the other guy you had invited?

Almost as if on cue, the door swung open, and another guy ran in.

“O-Oh, am I late or something?” He asked, obviously baffled. He sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, scanning everyone in the room. His eyes occasionally averted to the ground, if only for a few brief seconds. Until he noticed Rise.

“Ah— Risette?!”

The sudden nickname took Rise by surprise, causing her to flinch slightly. She sighed. “As cute as you are, I actually don’t go by that anymore! I’m Rise, and this is my little sister.” She pat your head happily, humming as she did so.

“Um,” the second guy began shyly, “I’m Yuuki Mishima! I’ve heard about you before... I don’t know why [N/A] invited us here, though...”

“Because I wanted all of us to talk,” you replied, pulling a few chairs towards the table. And with that, Akechi and Mishima sat down.

Mishima was obviously taken aback. “Talk...? With me?”

“Yeah. Not just with you, but with all of us!”

“I’m still skeptical of them,” Rise commented, pulling out her phone. Akechi let out a quiet, awkward laugh, relaxing in his chair slightly.

“No, there’s no need to assume such things, Miss Rise...”

Rise glanced over at Akechi.

“I see you like to flirt with nicknames~”

You assumed that she was no longer skeptical of Akechi.

“Oh, so what are we going to talk about...?” Mishima asked, taking a glass of water. He silently sipped it, examining the glass in his hands. Rise shook her head, clicking her tongue.

“Oh, no no no no! We can’t start a conversation like this! Someone has to bring up a topic of some sort! Kind of like how grandmas talk.”

Rise stood up from her chair pridefully and climbed onto the table, pointing at you.

“Sis! Name something off of the top of your head! Ready, set, go!”

“Eh?” You gulped. An odd tension was forming between everyone.

“M-Minecraft bees!”

“And you,” Rise exclaimed, pointing at Akechi.

“Hmm...”

“Don’t think about it! It’s supposed to be off the top of your head!”

Akechi glanced up at Rise and nodded.

“The weather.”

“Mishima!”

“Ah- Anime!”
