BACKSTORY

Eridan Ampora is introduced as a character deeply engrained in society, and therefore masculinity. Alternia is a society that deeply praises masculinity and class. However, he is deeply insecure despite his high blood caste and privilege. This leads him into lusus hunting, in order to gain praise and validation from Feferi. His insecurity leads to him taking advantage of any power he can get, leading to the events in LOWAA. His main interests include war and war heroes (Dualscar), as well as a common link with Hussie's work between masculinity and Rome (his trolltag, CaligulasAquarium. Caligula was an unpopular emperor that was killed .. just some fun facts for you) Overall, we can see him and his failures to fill any of his quadrants, making his role among the trolls the "incel" stereotype. His design and aspects of his character (wizardry, duh) are based on the popular book series Harry Potter (Wizardry Herbert, in-universe).

REASONING

All in all, he is pressed by society and expectation to fill this role of a "proper" violetblood. Imagine him starting from a basis of femininity, seeing this as a conforming burden that he must take on. And the one true role model in his life is Dualscar, the pinnacle of masculinity. And he leans into it. Hard. He wants to be like the war heroes of yore. He becomes happier. And yet this is just another insecurity of his. That he's not man enough. So he worries. This leads to him turning on the feminine forces in his life, namely Feferi and Kanaya. Feferi because she rightfully believes that he is an ass and does noy want to quadrant with him. But Kanaya is interesting, because they were actually pretty good friends. She gives him a source of power, with the wwhite majjiks, and in return, he destroys the matriorb and kills Kanaya (leading to the rainbowdrinker arc). Little reason is given for this beyond "Hussie needed a reason for the matriorb to explode", but Kanaya (Mary)am and the matriorb are both deeply linked with femininity and motherhood.

He wants to be a boy, and wants to grow up and be a real man. But like many young trans kids (or just adults who have come to hate pink) he has gone in the opposite direction, and despises what he used to be. SEND THAT BOY TO TROLL THERAPY ASAP!!
