 Makaya was hurt by Joel and furious at Josef, which all together was making her an emotional wreck. Her cheeks had flushed and now tears were falling down them. “What? No, Joel-” she begged him, reaching out for him just as her brother slammed him back against the wall. “Joey, stop it!” She hissed venomously, ripping his arm back and pushing her brother by the chest just to get him away. She wasn’t that strong so it would only make him take a step or two back. “I don’t have to ‘obey’ you, Josef. You’re my brother not my owner. This is my apartment too and if you don’t feel that way then I’ll get a place on my own!” She said, taking Joel by the hand and exiting the apartment quickly, not knowing if Josef was mad enough to come after them or not. She grabbed her shoes on the way out, and her purse, both of which she always left by the door. Once outside she wiped the tears from her eyes. “Go.” She sniffed at Joel, her tone broken and sad as she stood there on the streets of New York City, pulling her shoes on and throwing her purse over her shoulder. She felt completely destroyed, feeling like she’d lost her brother, her first boyfriend, her virginity, her place to live, and pretty much everything for no reason at all.

“He didn’t take advantage of me! I invited him here, and you’re humiliating me Josef!” She yelled at him, leaving her room and grabbing Joel’s shoes and pants out of the living room and bringing them to him, handing them over and again putting herself between the two boys.
