Stevie was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas which is famous for being the hometown of Janis Joplin. Joplin is a huge inspiration to Stevie, who as a young girl became enamored by her music. Eventually, she adored grunge and punk.
After highschool, Stevie and her band mates (Krush Katz: Babes in Toyland soundclaim) moved to Seattle, Washington. The home of grunge. They didnât get noticed until 1998 and became the âhardcoreâ version of The Spice Girls. Lots and lots of angry feminist music.Â
Stevie hated being signed to a record label, though. She felt controlled and lost her artistic freedom. After the fourth album, she cut ties with the band and began releasing music solo (PJ Harvey soundclaim).
As the music industry changed, Stevieâs music faded into obscurity which was a-okay with her.
When she was 37, she decided she wanted to be surrounded by the music scene again and the real raw kind of lifestyle she had in Seattle. She did some research on cities around America that needed a boost to the music scene and she found Bradford Springs.
She bought a place Downtown that she completely renovated into The Phoenix. The place is small but constantly playing live music. Thereâs a bar area on the main floor and a small space for acoustic acts. In the basement is a stage and main area for heavier music. Cheap drinks but only serves cold snacks.Â
Stevie is a wildcard for sure, she acts as her own security in the bar area and happily kicks any trouble makers out herself.Â
Sheâs very fun-loving and supportive, especially to and with musicians. She wants to see them live their dream.Â
Very anti-establishmentÂ
Doesnât mind if people recognize her from Krush Katz or her solo career, sheâs impressed if anyone can. Happily will tell the funny, crazy stories sheâs experienced and lived through.
You will always find her making placards for protests. Sheâs very big on social justice.Â

âGod, Stevie, it was so embarrassing,â Farah sighs, shaking her head at her friend. The Phoenix isnât opened yet but sheâs sipping some club soda, having given up alcohol for the indefinite future after her night at Restricted Access. âWhy did I call him? What if the kids found out? Thatâs setting a terrible example, isnât it?â @stevie-adlerâ
âitâs a little funny.â stevie admits with a small chuckle, but then uses her thumb and forefinger to signal the tiny amount of amusement. then, she stretches them a little wider apart. âi think itâs just because you know heâs safe, i wouldnât read too much into it, honey. thatâs womenâs biggest downfall.â she says, sipping her beer and laughing again. âsometimes men are just nice people, not the special dick-waving heroes the world makes them out to be.â
Teddy sometimes lied, not to Stevie or her mom. Or the people that mattered, but if it meant getting out of a precarious situation then she had no qualms with lies. âWell, I definitely donât think youâre an idiot.â she laughed, it was quite the opposite. Stevie was impressive and seemed like she didnât need anybody, which Teddy admired. âI canât message you on instagram because you wonât see it.â she laughed, taking the beer and joining Stevie at the bar. âYeah I have your number just my phone is pretty busted.â she shrugged, grabbing it from her pocket and trying to turn it on to prove it. The fact it didnât turn on did just that. âSee. And Iâm broke, so.â she shrugged, but that wasnât exactly new. Minimum wage was going to be her life forever. âThatâs not me asking for a raise, by the way. I barely work while Iâm here.â she added, laughing.
âhow nice of you.â stevie responds jovially but her laughter fades when the talk is still about social media and she cannot, for the life of her, get her head around any of it. she waves a dismissive hand, scoffing lightly. âteddy, i would prefer if you sent me messages by pigeon than have to download that thing. itâs stupid. since when did we normalize being able to reach somebody at any damn time? itâs selfish to think people havenât got their own thing to do.â her rant doesnât continue for as long as it usually does and she sips her beer, listening to teddy. âso youâve been making journeys home without a phone and didnât think to tell me or your mom?â her head cocks and her eyebrow raises, free hand sliding to her hip. âtheodora, you know what itâs like out there?â she ignores the admission of slacking though despite laughing. âiâm gonna pretend i didnât hear that.â
âIâm just sayinâ I havenât slept properly for three weeks.â Frankie explained while she adjusted to make herself more comfortable on Stevieâs bed. Shane was a cute kid but Frankie knew nothing about parenting and she was mediocre at best when it came to guidance. Shane was not far off from Tovi, Hazel, or Noahâs ages though so maybe she wouldnât do too bad after all. âYou basically adopted that OâConnor girl, right? How does that go?â A yawn interrupted her line of questioning for the woman. âI mean, what would you do if your dead wifeâs daughter showed up at your door after you hadnât talked in years?â Because Frankie hadnât the first clue on how to address any of it other than to feed her and answer questions. âOy vey, I just left her there. To her own devices. Twenty-one year olds are good on their own. Right?â
âwhy? is she night-feeding?â stevie laughs to frankie, not maliciously but a light tease here and there is normal for the two of them. she then hums in response about angel, sipping the coffee sheâs made for them both to enjoy in bed. thereâs no need to be out and about, and a day spent under covers is just as good as any. âi think she adopted me but...itâs going.â stevie frowns, setting aside the coffee cup. âi think the trick is knowing you canât make choices for them, just gotta be there when they make the good ones and be there even more when they make the bad ones.â stevie then points to herself and to frankie. âlike we were a walk in the park for our parents? i can count on both hands how many times my mom said i almost killed her.â she laughs and then turns so she can look at frankie as they talk, propping her head up in her palm. âi think itâs beautiful. you still got a piece of nadia in your life.â stevie says thoughtfully, rubbing frankieâs shoulder gently. âsheâll be fine, iâm sure of it. youâre in your head, pretty lady.â

Angel laughs a little longer than necessary, slow and languid laughter filling the hallway she shares with Stevie. Sure, puntry is funny, but itâs not as funny as her hazed brain is making it seem. âYeah, itâs fucking weird. Learn something new everyday,â She nods her heavy head, her arms moving to wrap around herself for grounding and stability. If she had any sort of self awareness at the moment, she mightâve been embarrassed. Instead, she thinks sheâs killing it, playing it cool and acting so normal Stevie must have no idea how much effort itâs taking to focus in on her through spaced out and exaggerated blinks. But being high at The Phoenix isnât some rarity, as if itâs some sacred, sworn off place where she took a vow to never partake in her little habit. Itâs a place for music, of course sheâs going to be high, but this is different. Thereâs no limit, no line sheâs drawn to keep from crossing. Out of respect for Stevie and her establishment, Angel would only smoke a blunt out front or out in the alley, keeping the rest off the premises. She doesnât care anymore, and right now, sheâs not sure why sheâs ever cared at all. âNo, no, no. Iâm like good, like really good. Iâm good,â Her voice drags. âWhy would I â I donât need to stay on your couch. Iâm good.â Shit. Is she saying âIâm goodâ again?
she wants to envelope angel within her arms, let the young woman become an extension of herself. hopeful that holding her could be a safety net, or a form of protection. she knows it wonât do much of the sort but still, stevie gently steps forward to wrap one arm around angel. itâs not just to steady her but to ground her, remind her that there are people here who love her. stevie is one of them. her other hand offers up the bottle of water it holds to the oâconnor. âhere, have the rest.â she says softly but not a question. itâs tricky to know what to do, to call finn or to guide angel out of the phoenix and up to her apartment. sheâs not even sure if angel will notice the change of scenery. she opts for that choice, laughing lightly at angelâs words. âi need some air, and i wanna watch a movie. that sound good to you?â she walks with angel outside, mostly leading the way despite remaining by her side. she doesnât think there will be a movie that holds angelâs attention, she hopes maybe the girl will fall asleep in a safe environment instead and stevie can help nurse the wicked comedown that follows in the morning. âi wanna hear about your day, baby. thereâs gotta be something you did that was fun?â
âIâŚdonât actually want to answer that question.â Teddy said honestly, because it felt like a trap despite her knowing Stevie wasnât like that. âOh crap.â she then muttered when she was threatened with actual managing but then laughed as soon as Stevieâs not so stern words followed. âNoted, captain.â she grinned back and felt a wave of relief at the offer for alcohol. Sometimes she forgot that the phoenix wasnât your typical working environment. âCan I get a bud?â she asked, moving towards the bar. âAlso, I know you said absolutely no group chats but if you did have social media I could always drop a message about things.â she offered because usually she had an unpaid phone bill that prevented her from texting. âI could set it all up for you.â
stevieâs smile flourishes into laughter at teddy, bless her heart for thinking sheâd be in any sort of trouble. 'honey, how many times have i told you? only thing thatâll piss me off is lying to my face or talking to me like iâm an idiot.â she reminds the girl, waving a hand as she fetches the beer for them both. stevie tries to hear teddy out, arching a brow. the phoenix has an instagram and even thatâs because she had to apparently. stevie doesnât even know the logins, trusting teddy, fox, river and angel to do whatever needs to be done. âcanât you do the thingy on instagram? whyâs all these apps got a way to message me? i hate it. i work right here, i live right here. you have my number donât you?â
âWait, so youâre not mad?â Teddy paused once she heard Stevieâs response. She had psyched herself up for losing the job altogether after the review popped up, carefully illustrating the night she threw a drink over a customer. Teddy couldnât even remember what happened leading up to it, but she definitely didnât believe the customerâs version of events. âIsnât there likeâŚshouldnât you be telling me toâŚnot do that?â Teddy carefully tilted her head and her voice went slightly higher. âI mean for what itâs worth, he was 100% an asshole and really pissed me off for some reason. I think he kept asking when the band were playing and it was just an open mic night.â It sounded less serious now that she explained it.
stevie is as visibly confused as little teddy is, both of them staring at one another helplessly for a few moments. âshould i be?â she asks genuinely as her hand moves to her hip. it seems to make sense, a customer was annoying and possibly had been given plenty of time to reconsider their approach and didnât. âif you want me to do the harsh manager thing i can.â stevie laughs, sitting up onto the bar. âdonât do that again.â she then says, full lips moving into a smile as thereâs not a single ounce of power behind her words. âand also donât call meetings about treating assholes like assholes because now weâre in work an hour earlier than we needed to be. so, drinks?â
the girl may as well have been speaking in double dutch as stevie stares down the tiny prescott, amused and baffled all at once. sheâs trying to keep up and is mentally making a note of the things teddy is telling her but social media has never been her forte or anything thatâs interested her, possibly why all of her unsigned work disappeared into oblivion. âmhm...canât we just block them?â stevie suggests, getting her own phone to look at the one star review that has sparked the little staff meeting...which is just stevie and teddy. âprobably tourists, wouldnât come back anyways. plus, i wouldnât let them back in.â she shrugs.Â
Angel just needs to make it back from the bathroom. Is that so hard?
Ah, fuck. She puts one foot out in front of the other. Okay, I got this. Veering a little too far to the right, Angel drifts into the wall and lightly bounces off it, getting somewhat back on track. Shit. She walks with her hand outstretched for good measure, creating a little buffer for herself. What she needs is a second to reset herself, for her legs to remember how to carry her forward. Then, when she gets back to everyone, sheâll be able to blend in just fine. She just needs to â Is that Stevie? She squints and tries in vain to get her vision into some sort of focus. Oh, goddamnit. Itâs like getting caught red-handed by your mom, and well, Stevie is the closest Angelâs ever gotten to having a mom who actually gives a damn about her. âHey,â Angel tries playing it cool, as if she hadnât just been doing lines in a stall. The coke is blending quite nicely with the shots sheâd been doing at the bar. She looks at Stevie, but not really. Her eyes never quite adjust the way theyâre supposed to. âThat band tonight. Theyâre uh â theyâre like really good,â Her voice carries no inflection, leaving her the same low monotone it always finds when sheâs too high to pretend she isnât.
stevieâs been there and done it all, and probably has a few t-shirts and hats to prove it too. thereâs a big difference between somebody whoâs swept up in the recreational drug hell of parties and good times and somebody whoâs running from something. stevie knows angel is the latter, even if the lost lamb isnât running anywhere fast right now. stevie watches her from a distance, the painfully slow steps and the ghostly sway of angelâs frame. it would be funny if it wasnât heartbreaking, and stevie feels as if she carries some responsibility for it. she wears her kindest smile as angel approaches, and her arm comes around her adopted daughter with a soft pat onto her back. âglad you liked them, honey. i think theyâre a bit punk-country. puntry? never even knew it existed.â she laughs, tilting her head to gauge angelâs reaction times. âhow you feeling? i donât need to set up the couch for you do i? donât mind if i do if you canât be bothered to get home.â she suggests harmlessly.Â

Dusty had surprised himself, and possibly everybody else by arriving at the school before the doors were locked. He even found a little room for himself, first come first served basis. A rule that Dusty loved, because he was fast. Somehow. The eldest Anderson was snoring loudly, and drooling from the corner of his mouth across a set up âcomfortableâ area. Something he fought a kid for by pulling the blankets away and showing the child a middle finger for being a loser. His nap was interrupted by the door opening and he leaned up when he saw the familiar face of Stevie. âNormally, the idea of you waking me up is a nice one but I donât feel like being in a very sharing mood, Miss Adler. Because I know you charged me double the other week for shitty whiskey, and donât deny it. I didnât even do anything.â
the andersons are a thorn in stevie adlerâs side, but only a small one. she pretends that the soft spot they have wiggled their way into doesnât exist, in hopes of it helping them straighten out. easier said than done, especially where dusty is concerned. âhoney, i donât even like waking men up from a coma. donât flatter yourself.â she quips as she watches dusty stir beneath a pile of blankets. âhm, i did. because you kept telling crabby pete he still had both limbs so you could win an arm wrestle match.â stevieâs eyebrow arches before her hand juts out with expectation. âyou donât need all these blankets, hand a few over.â
âBeen a while since Iâve sneaked to have damn cigarette at school.â Delâs nostalgic comment was not posed with any fondness, their tone was entirely flat as they stared up at the air vent blankly watching the smoke rise. Stevieâs presence helped the embarrassment subside but there was something sickly and vulnerable about being on the brink of a blackout in front of the whole town. It was like there was a flashing neon sign above Delâs head, pointing right at them that read âALCOHOLIC.â They were self aware enough that it was a problem, and being self aware was part of the problem too. âWhere did you fit? Nerd? Band geek?â Delâs glimmer of mischievousness returned as they looked at Stevie with a smirk, but it didnât keep. âI was a loner. I liked it.â
â
âbeen a while for me too.â she hums back with a smile. stevie has always carried suspicions of delâs behaviour, wondering why the writer slinks away into the night after a few drinks at the phoenix. no good things come from secrets, and secrets threaten to be exposed when you least expect them. hence why stevie is huddled now with her good friend in a high school bathroom, passing a cigarette back and forth while del goes through the motions of the alcohol. contemplating her answer, stevie sighs and crosses her arms before shrugging. âmenace to society back then. those were the days.â she replies with warm nostalgia. âiâm not surprised, bet you had a bunch of friends you refused to admit you loved like now, huh?â
âWell I would certainly go nowhere with you, too.â Frankie laughed. âExcept less public nowhere for obvious reasons,â she added with a wink and chuckled again. Immediately she pulled Stevie closer when their arms were linked. The woman was more to her than friendship or casual romance, Frankie felt safe with Stevie. Something that wasnât the case with a lot of people. âItâs just another year at this point, right?â She shrugged then put on a grin. âBring it on, universe!â Frankie listened to the woes of wearing all leather and suddenly was reminded why she doesnât do it in any sort of capacity. Beyond her moral code. Imagine the vegan wearing leather, an oxymoron for the ages. âLetâs get this bottle down and get out of here then. Both Del and I know you would look better without it on anyways.â She cackled and started looking for their aforementioned friend. Frankie knew they all had a better time together and would ring in the new year right.
stevie gushes at frankieâs sentiment, swirling her fingers adoringly through the bright red curls as she smiles. âthat was beautiful, you thought about how to say that all day?â she teases with a bubbly laughter. she then hums and nods, agreeing that earth has orbited the sun yet again, and she doesnât want to admit how many different new years she has sung and danced in. âsure is another year, and at the end of next year weâll be saying it all over again.â she laughs, walking with frankie before she canât contain the genuine cackle that escapes. it rises above the music, more so like a witch than anything dainty. âyou donât need to tell me twice.â she laughs and pops the champagne after a few twists of her wrist, and a few unladylike grunts since her legs are pinned together and she canât use her knees for aid. the pop makes her cheer, and a few others too and she takes a triumphant swig before handing it over to frankie. âno point looking for them, i saw del looming in the shadows like the babadook, just staring at everyone. says you almost killed them with the shots.â stevie laughs.
âYou donât have to worry, Stevie. I didnât tell either of them I was coming.â DJ laughs as he nears the bar, hopping up onto the stool and tapping the wood top softly. It didnât matter that Danny and Dusty werenât kept in the loop, the brothers were like magnets in some ways. DJ knew they would probably end up at The Phoenix all the same, as much as heâd hate to admit it. âI canât exactly promise and I donât wanna lie.â he says, bargaining himself out of a free shot which is an oversight on his part. âCanât I have it anyways just for being the better one out of us three?â he charms with a smile, which is one trait he was thankful he carries. For whatever reason, an Anderson smirk erases all previous debts. Or, so he hopes.
âhm, you donât have to tell âem. theyâll just know. i feel it in my old bones.â stevie laughs, pushing a hand to her hip as she stares at the phoenix door. she expects the head of bleached hair and the scruffy dark locks to bound in at any moment, but she sniffs when nothing happens. âguess my old bones are wrong today.â she chuckles, looking to dj and arching a brow at his suggestion. âsure, but donât you think youâre forgetting something?â she throws the question to him, preparing his usual drink as she speaks. âsomethinâ beginning with p..puh...puhlease?âÂ
The redhead turned hearing Stevieâs voice. âHere I am.â Beyond being an actual goddess, the other woman had pulled her through the darkest period of her life. Del was good for drinks and a good time, but they werenât someone who wanted to listen or knew how to handle other peopleâs emotions. They didnât know how to handle their own. But, Stevie was patient and offered kindness and most of all understanding when nothing in the world made sense. It was something Frank would spend a lifetime trying to return to her. âNot sure how you can stand there and call me hot when you exist, but Iâll take it.â She let out a low whistle and grinned at the invitation. âLead the way gorgeous, Iâd follow you anywhere.â A small chuckle and a wink followed her words. âSeriously though, that dress is hot. Why is this the first time Iâve seen it?â
stevie doesnât give for things to be returned, maybe when she was younger she had a more selfish attitude on the world but with the years passing she learned how to pour into other people and not need anything back. frankie simply being her friend is enough, the womanâs eccentricity is more than rewarding and exactly the personality stevie likes to keep. âwell, we canât both be following each other everywhere. weâll end up nowhere.â she laughs, linking her arm through frankie and admiring her clothes. âyou look amazing, like youâre ready for whatever the new year brings and you know iâm a sucker for that kind of energy.â stevie grins and glances down to her dress afterwards. âi forgot myself for a second, this thing is literally hugging me and at first i thought in all the right places but...â she leans a little closer to frankieâs ear. âthis wedgie is gonna be the death of me. i already canât wait to take my bra off and just eat pizza and be able to spread my legs like a man.â

âI do and I know my ABCs.â Blaze grinned, tapping a finger on the side of his head for his proud brain-working moment. âI was going to say you should wear one more often but absolutely not if you hate them. We all love your jeans and tee combo just as much.â he laughed at her and then waved a finger at her pun. âNow come on, I canât keep up with that sort of wit.â he teased and then nodded proudly at the mention of Lucky. Blaze pointed out his son, who was very hard to miss. âIâm having a blast, and that sure is. Lucky himself. You know this boy even tried being my wingman tonight? I donât know how Iâve managed to secure a date before knowing him. The women love him.â
âooh well, look at you.â stevie plays along chirply, sipping her drink and humming to speak once she was done. âi appreciate the moral support on banning dresses, blaze. iâll be sure to call you up when thereâs other feminist issues that need tendinâ to.â she snarks in good nature, rubbing blazeâs arm to show she doesnât mean it. stevie then looks to the son that she remembers blaze telling her all about back when he first met him, he seemed shell-shocked but sheâs happy to hear their bond is going from strength to strength. âhe looks like a kind person, but you ever stopped to consider that the ladies might just like you too? you have a lot going for you, blaze.â she laughs softly. âbut keep him away from my girl angel, sheâd be a little too much trouble for him. i can see that a mile away.â
Del thought that holding their breath as Stevie got closer would render them invisible. No such luck and not even blending into the darkness of the shadows could save them from Stevieâs watchful eye. âOh? Darn, I forgot to turn my fill the room with hatred emitter off.â they shrugged a shoulder, to one of their longest standing friends. Besides Frankie, Blaze and Wilde, of course. Stevie just so happened to fit right in, and weirdly didnât help Delâs âI hate peopleâ rants. âIâm not sulking, this is my face. Thanks but no thanks. I did shots with that ginger terror and despite how calm and collected I look, Iâm fighting the urge to projectile vomit like The Exorcist right now.â it was true, Del could handle their alcohol but it only went so far. âDo I even need to mention it?â they pointed a frail finger at Stevieâs dress. âWhy?â
âi donât think you could turn that off if your life depended on it.â stevie muses zestfully. she interrupts delâs rant about doing shots with frankie by ignoring delâs personal space rule and cupping the authorâs face in both her hands. âi didnât realize i was friends with such a baby.â she coos teasingly, tilting her head as her eyes roll. âwe donât talk about the dress. it was an oversight, that i wonât be making again. i forgot myself for a second, these things are so damn restrictive. feels like iâm stuck in this. the leather donât help much either.â she snickers softly, letting go of delâs face but grabbing them by the arm. âyou need a water since youâre suddenly a sickly victorian child i gotta take care of?â
