Consider a modern Eddie having a giant crush on Margot āI fucking love Slipknotā Robbie.
Because thatās where my brain is right now.
Which of you fuckers said āeverytime Eddie enters family video in a fic, Seinfeld bass starts playingā - because now I canāt stop it in my head and THIS FIC ISNāT SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY DAMMIT.
you ever just feel the need to wrap Mike Wheeler up in your arms like an angry cat and hug him?
because i do.

To the fanfic author who is boldly stating they are ignoring canon and making Steve an August Leo?
I fucking salute you.
Thanks to those with clarifying info about ages/US schooling. I aināt perfect but I am annoying!
šØš¦
@estrellami-1 Lol. My brother enrolled in Junior Kindergarten at age 3, then turned 4 before Christmas. Both of us graduated at 17. Maybe itās a Canadian thing to have 2 years of Optional Kindergarten, but I have had some American friends graduate at 17 as well, so I think it must be the kindergarten systems getting a lil funky.
@secondconcussion
EHHHH! šØš¦ I have a lot of American friends. So I get some info from them. But being from different states, Iām kind of pulling from all of their experiences.
No fear, I have done the math for all of you Fanfic authors so we can stop with the confusion.
Eddieās Third Try at Senior Year is ā86
Second try was ā85, originally supposed to graduate in ā84
Steve Graduated on time in ā85
Therefore Eddie is one school year above Steve.
Additionally- as far as I am aware, Middle School is 3 years maximum. So, because of context/middle school talent show:
When Chrissy was in 6th grade, Steve was in 7th, and Eddie was in 8th grade- carrying on until Senior Year kept him back.
So Eddie is two school years above Chrissy.
Ages get a little weirder because I donāt know the Hawkins enrolment cut off/school year start. Some places start in August, others September. Some use age at enrollment, others use birth years etc. but, you can use a general 17-18 for Chrissy/the other ā86 seniors, 18-19 for Steve/ā85 seniors, and place Eddie 19-20. 21 is kind of pushing it unless you go with a mid-year Appalachian transfer fanon- but again it depends on the enrolment of Hawkins.
I know folks who started kindergarten at 3 because they were big & potty trained, but others were delayed until 5. But 4 is average, ergo, letās go with averages.
Edit: kindergarten apparently isnāt relevant anyways so letās be glad it was crossed out anyways.

STEVE HARRINGTON Stranger Things, 3.02 - The Mall Rats
@pscentral event 16: pride colors ā³ ROBIN BUCKLEY Stranger Things
so iām rewatching bits and pieces of s4 for fic reasons and itās hitting me all over again how and why nancy reacts to robin the way she does before and during the library scene. like! nancy has spent every season having to justify why she thinks what she does or, more often than not, fight with someone to try to pursue her theories. barb is missing and no one is listening to her. barbās death was unfair but steve thinks they should just keep living their lives normally. she knows thereās a story with mrs driscoll but everyone, jonathan included, is telling her to drop it.
so of course in s4 when she has this idea in the back of her mind, her first instinct is to pursue it alone. even though the others are right there, and they know whatās going on. she still thinks no one will believe her, and sheād rather just do it herself than have someone try to tell her no.
and when robin comes with her nancy thinks that she was right, that robin is just another person who is going to doubt her theories and fight her about whether this is worth their time. except, robin does believe her, sheās just trying to get the information she needs to keep up with nancy. and once they finally get on the same wavelength, everything clicks. robin not only supports nancyās theory, she takes it and runs with it, and suddenly they have the foundation they need to figure out everything.
and what gets me even more is that, from that moment on, nancy keeps robin at her side. sheās keeping an eye out for her, standing near her in the group, letting her ride shotgun. even when she doesnāt fully trust robin at pennhurst, she still chooses her. and robin proves her wrong again, so nancy keeps choosing her and keeps trusting her.
idk man i just love how strong their dynamic is, and how clear it is that this is good for both of them. for robin to have someone other than steve see her and accept her and care so deeply for her after being the odd one out at the end of s3. and for nancy to have someone finally in her corner, supporting her and believing in her without trying to get with her. they fit so well and their arc in s4 is such a treat, i love it so much
DO IT
I support Goldilocks!AU so hard. Twould also be funny if Steve and Eddie ended up completely using nicknames for one another so Dustin has no clue heās hyping them up to the other despite them already being friends.Ā
Wayne specifically would just be such a positive influence. AND YES, Steve wouldnāt keep Wayne out of the loop! Theyād be able to have Wayne run interference (even if it got him in trouble at the plant, but once Wayne hears āshady government folksā his back is up and heās ready to go down swinging bc his mama didnāt raise a yellow bellied coward ready to roll over for them goons to come and pin it all on his boys; also tell me that man wouldnāt see Nancy Wheeler with her shotgun and go, āneed another gunner?ā)
im sorry but the shift of steve being a whole ass homophobe in season 1 to him randomly accepting robins lesbianism in season 3 and āclockingā vickie in season 4ā¦. yall fall for shit ass lazy ass writing all the time and then get mad at people like who call it out. anyway im awake now
Itās cause he met one gay ass mf in season 2 and he changed Steveās whole point of view š
I love all yāall and Iām not trying to start anything, just offer a perspective, like⦠maybe Steve legitimately did not care that much in the first place.
People who grow up in homophobic cultures and households donāt always have strong feelings against gay people - theyāre just doing whatās expected and repeating the same shit theyāve heard from their parents and classmates. āQueerā as an insult against Jonathan would have been making the rounds at school for years because thatās how that works. Ask literally anyone who got targeted that way in school.
When Steveās trying to provoke Jonathan, because heās so deeply hurt and feeling betrayed and trying to lash out, he calls him queer and also accuses him of having killed Will himself. Do we, like⦠actually think Steve believed Jonathan murdered his brother? I really think that would be a stretch. He said that to piss Jonathan off because he wanted to beat the shit out of him (or possibly he wanted to get beaten⦠sometimes when youāre hurting a lot, the only thing that makes sense is making the outside match the inside. You feel like you should be in PHYSICAL pain because the emotional pain is so great, so you cut yourself, burn yourself, punch walls, pick fights, or over-exercise. Steve is FAR from the only person I have known to have that impulse).
So I really think itās unlikely that Steve has strong personal feelings about Jonathanās sexuality. The more likely scenario is: heās been hearing āthat fucking queer, jonathan byersā for years, he wants to hurt Jonathan, so he reaches for the easiest available weapon. He tries calling him a queer and when that doesnāt work (because Jonathanās already heard it a million times) he goes harder and accuses him of killing Will and eventually he gets what he wants - a fist to the face.
Tellingly, after fighting Jonathan and nearly-fighting Tommy, Steve does actually seem to get the vitriol out of his system and immediately starts trying to make things right. He goes to clean up the graffiti and then goes personally to try to apologize to Jonathan. But I doubt he really saw calling Jonathan āqueerā as something to apologize for at that time. First of all, everybody was doing it. Second, Jonathan didnāt seem to care. Heād done actual damage with his hands and with the other provocations, so those offenses probably took priority. Steve is unsurprised Jonathan stays with Nancy so it seems like he doesnāt actually believe Jonathan is gay any more than he actually believed Jonathan hurt Will.
What Iām saying is, I donāt think even in Season 1 Steve actually EXAMINED his own casual (and I do emphasize casual) homophobia. He didnāt have to, because Jonathan wasnāt actually queer; it was just an insult used against him. He doesnāt EXAMINE it until Robin, and when she comes out to him, theyāve literally just been tortured together. Theyāve JUST escaped an extremely traumatic life or death situation, sheās his new best friend, heās kind of in love with her, and she confesses she only likes girls. And he has to decide (while drugged and sitting on a bathroom floor): does it actually fucking matter??? Does he care? Is this the kind of thing he cuts off a friend for? It didnāt MATTER to him until Robinās friendship put stakes on the issue.
And I just think itās telling of his character that when it suddenly matters whether heās homophobic or not, when itās PERSONAL, it takes him like 5 seconds to decide that he doesnāt actually give a shit. Heās too tired, too wounded, too lonely to have strong feelings about something thatās really not his business anyway.
Also, I just want to point out, when Steve called Jonathan a queer, he had zero idea what was going on. He was still living in his small-town WASP-world where being homecoming king probably seemed like a life-or-death issue.
When he rolled with Robinās confession, he was a veteran and combatant in fending off an extra-dimensional invasion. Heād been injured, TORTURED, and seen people die over this. Heād been willing to lay down his life to protect the party already. That kind of shit changes a guyās priorities. Like, seriously, at that point, he has better things to give a fuck about than if gay people exist.
Youāre entitled to your opinions but I have to say, this really⦠is not an example of lazy writing. He made a decision only when he was forced to, and he made it with consideration toward how much the stakes (and his understanding of reality) had changed. Heās all āYAY GO GAYā to Robin in the last season because this is the first time heās actually choosing a side on this issue, as opposed to just going with the flow, and heās excitable. Have you legitimately never met a new ally who did the exact same shit? Because I spent years volunteering for PFLAG and let me tell you⦠Iāve seen a LOT of parents and friends turn aggressively supportive as soon as someone they personally care about turns out to be queer. Itās not actually unusual. Iāve had multiple young queer teens confess to me that like⦠theyāre glad their parents love them but holy shit theyāre being so cringe about this, could they maybe tone it down.
Steve also doesnāt have any other close friendships with people his own age so if he ends up a little bit over-invested in being supportive of Robin, thatās probably a little bit of āhaha if she ditches me I will be absolutely fucking alone! Letās not stare into that particular abyss tho!ā going on. Itās not exactly SUBTLE that Steve has abandonment issues - they get emphasized, and triggered, repeatedly through the seasons. Itās LITERALLY the reason he flips out so hard in S01 over Nancy and Jonathan.
I just canāt agree with the implication that none of this character development makes sense or that itās lazy writing. Iām pretty far left already and I still think if Iād had to beat up an extradimensional monster with a baseball bat, Iād probably find a few priorities to shift around and a few beliefs to reexamine. Just saying.

The night of the events of Starcourt, Steve lies about his parents being home because he doesnāt want to impose on anyone else. So he says his parents are waiting for him back home and Joyce drops him off to get some rest.
Steve gets home and immediately realizes itās a horrible idea, heās concussed, confused, alone, scared, and in pain.
He panics and ends up walking through the woods alone where Wayne finds him when heās getting home from work.
Wayne freaks out over the injured sailor boy that looks like he hasnāt slept in days and who is confused about how he got there.
He convinces Steve to come in for coffee, but when they get inside Steve starts looking around fascinated by every little trinket. he ends up in Eddieās room,
āWhere am I?ā he wonders and even through the questions and fears it makes Wayne chuckle,Ā
āThis is my nephewās roomā He answers looking at Steve walk around with stars in his eyes at the mess.
āHe must be really cool,ā he tells Wayne.
Wayne nods and smirks but then Steve catches his own reflection in the mirror,
āis that me? Jesus no wonder you look so worried, I look like shitā
And he says something that breaks Wayneās heart a little, āIām sorry,ā and he looks so sad too, and so honest like he really thinks him not looking okay is a problem for Wayne. Like Wayne would get mad at him for not being āpresentableā.
āI should leave,ā Steve says.
Wayne raises his arms in mock surrender,
āWoah, no kid, itās fine, you donāt look that bad, I was only worried because you look tired. When was the last time you slept?ā
Steve thinks for a while and frowns, āI donāt rememberā¦ā
āWhy donāt you rest here in this cool room,ā Wayne asks him with a kind smile, āand then will get that coffee, ok?ā
Steve agrees and falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow.
Wayne sighs and leaves the room, he sits on the couch and sees on the tv the news about the fire.
Itās an explanation, not the whole truth but itās something. Clearly, Steve was there but that doesnāt explain the bruises, the confusion, the fear. He feels like something else might be going on.
And why on gods earth was that kid all alone?
Eventually, he falls asleep too.
.
So when Eddie gets home from spending the night at Jeffās after a gig, he finds his uncle sleeping on the couch and doesnāt find it weird at all, he tiptoes to his room for a change of clothes and there he finds the fucking former king of hawkings wearing the skimpiest sailor uniform sleeping on his bed, and for a second he thinks 'is it my birthday?ā but then Steve turns in his sleep and Eddie sees his face and thinks 'shitā
He is instantly worried, no matter how much he dislikes jocks, no one deserves to be brutalized like that.
And to ruin that beautiful face? A crime.
Once more he tiptoes into the hallway and goes where his uncle is slowly waking up. He gets close, real close so when Wayne opens his eyes the first thing he sees is Eddie blinking at him.Ā
Wayne jumps a little and bites back a curse, āJesus kid!ā
Eddie chuckles, āSorry, Wayne. Might telling me about the little sailor in my bed?ā
Wayne sighs and tells him.
.
When Steve wakes up a bit later is to the sound of Eddieās acoustic. Heās sitting in his desk chair, plucking a sweet and soft melody,
āMorning goldilocks,ā he tells him with a smile.
Steve, who had a bunch of excuses and apologies lined up already frowns, and inclines his head, āGoldilocks?ā
āI found you sleeping in my bed, didnāt I?ā Eddie answers sweetly.
Steve blushes, he canāt help it, and once more instead of getting up and leaving he gets distracted by Eddieās whole deal.
āIām not even blondā he argues.
Eddie bows his head at him, as if to say he got him there, but then says,
āYou have locks of hair that look golden in the sun, goldilocksā
Steve really hopes the bruises cover his blush, he really, really hopes. But judging from Eddieās smile, he canāt tell itās not the case.
āI should leave,ā he says moving slowly to the edge of the bed.
Eddie places his guitar on the desk and turns to fully look at him, āYou donāt have to. If you donāt want to,ā he points to something on the bottom of the bed, āLook, clean clothes and my fluffiest towel, why donāt you take a shower and then we drink that coffee my uncle promised?ā
And Steveās heart hurts with how much he wants that. He doesnāt want to be alone, he wants to stay here with the kind wonderful man he met last night and Eddie, who played guitar for him while he slept and thinks his hair is golden, but stillā¦
āAre you sure? I donāt want to imposeā
Eddie snorts and mouthes 'imposeā to himself before leaning closer and looking Steve in the eyes,
āIām sure, Goldie. Go, shower. Iāll go put the kettle onā
And steve canāt do much more than nod and smile shyly at him.
Oh my goodness! If you want to expand on this, you certainly could. I would adore it. HOWEVER, itās got such a strong sense of āSteve is going to be okayā on its own the way you left it. The Goldilocks comment is specifically so pointedly good and in character (it also capitalizes on those Season 3 Highlights!) Wayne would be that kind of kind stranger. The way Steve is so confused he lets himself be taken care of, but itās also only because heās too scared of letting people who know him know him deeply. It just makes me a little sad that maybe if he knew Wayne properly, or even knew he was Eddie āThe Freakā Munsonās Uncle, he would have ducked away and kept walking until he really hurt himself.
Short little ficlets like this are delightful. You should be proud of this one.
Ok I need to know, if you HAD to kill off one of these characters who would it be?
Characters:
Max
Will
Dustin
Steve
Lucas
Robin
El
Mike
Nancy
Jonathan
Okay okay okay, so killing people off in stories needs to have weight (consequences) in both emotional and plot relevancy. The writers themselves even know this, as Steveās been saved from the chopping block a number of times before.
Hopperās death before they saved him worked because we had our hero/main plot character El emotionally devastated. It also gave a tragic end to Jopper, and the kids all had to grow up a bit in general because their main force protecting them from the Lab/Government was gone. Joyce however adopts El, El is a Byers kid now, so the tragedy has logical fallout and we arenāt like āthat was needlessly meanā bc she has a support system. Versus like, Alexei for shock or Billy for āwe need a death and evil boi must goā.
Now- I can see an excellent case being made for Will, El, or Jonathan. Will would devastate the party & his story has been so tragic anyways. A sacrifice to bring down Vecna could be his big hero moment. However, unless they wrapped up this love triangle, it wouldnāt be satisfying bc that plot thread is too entangled with coming of age narratives. Jonathan also could be a loss of innocence for Will, but it would be unsatisfying for Jonathanās arc bc they complicated it with distance from Nancy (itād be better if he and Nancy were making it work, then he was cut off before they got a chance to get back 100%. Right now theyāre 5 seconds from break up so itās not tragically beautiful). Also, Jonathan hasnāt been central for a little while so itās a cop out, but it could be cool if Jonathan made sure his little brother never had to deal with the UD again via his death.
El is probably the ballsiest move to kill off. It could be narratively satisfying- but also killing your MC needs to be balanced really well, with a lot of foreshadowing or proper lead up that it doesnāt turn your viewers off entirely.
That being said- narratively speaking, Steve is the easiest to kill because youāre not killing a kid. You donāt have to rearrange plot arcs bc heās muscle/bruiser/driver not an active investigator. You do lose an important leadership role, but Hopper is back and Nancy is stepping up, so the stakes could also be raised because the Tank isnāt there to act as their meat shield. Also, he is emotionally connected to a number of people, so you get a great payoff of grief without a lot of moving parts falling through the cracks. (Bc if you kill Will, Joyce will go nuts and the Party loses motivation. If El goes, where is the heavy hitter psychic? If Jonathan goes, not enough emotional impact.)
Steve is the obvious choice. He is the blorbo but heās also there to be beaten up, he has no interior life, and Max, Lucas, DUSTIN, Robin, and Nancy would all have really complicated emotions over the situation. You could also have Joyce and Hopper feeling guilty as hell a teenager (well, legal adult) went down on their watch.
