This was just weird and scary. He wanted to just tell Spencer to get out of his and Madisonâs apartment. Wasnât he going to dump Chase for Spencer? Wasnât that what was happening? God it felt so weird to think about. But now they werenât even remotely there. He also really didnât want to be around the babies either. It was just a scary thought. Right now he wanted to back away from all of this. Itâd take some time for him to calm down.
Spencer talked about him leaving and going to his own apartment and Mason shook his head adamantly. âNo, no, Spence. Seriously. Itâs fine,â he commented, taking in a deep breath as he tried to center his thoughts. âI want you to stay here with Mads and the kids, honestly. Youâre their dad, Spence. You need to be in their life.â There was another pause as he digested the sentence he just said out loud.Â
âMaybe I could stay in your apartment though? I Â could stay here but Lord knows I donât want to help our with these babies and Iâd be in my room for forever and that wouldnât help. I just donât want things to be too much at once.â
There was a thought about how the Doctor told him that it was best to try and go back to his regular schedule, but God knew he probably lost his role on Broadway. God, what if this ruined his career? He wasnât really sure if he could do Broadway anymore.
âTomorrow Iâm going to go see what my status is on Melchior. If I canât go back, Iâll figure something else out, but⌠uh..â He shrugged quietly and looked away. God, why was this just so weird?
Spencer raised his eyebrows as Mason spoke, turning that idea over. It wasnât the worst one heâd ever heard; the doctors had talked a lot about keeping Mason comfortable, and he figured that Mason wouldnât be comfortable there with them and the babies.
âYouâll have to get Madsâ okay,â Spencer said with a chuckle, ââcause I donât want to get in trouble. But...â Spencer smiled a little and shrugged one shoulder. âIâm okay with it, if you think thatâd be better for you.â Spencer paused, then added, âNot that--we want you to like...be a stranger or anything.â
Spencer looked back down at his fingers; he had been doing so many things lately it felt weird to just be sitting there, but he knew that if he hovered Mason would probably punch him in the face. âIf you canât get back, maybe you could try school,â Spencer ventured thoughtfully. Heâd dropped his own classes after Mason got hurt--between that and Madison it had all been too much--but he still wanted to pick it back up, and he knew for a fact that Mason was too smart to do nothing forever. âOr try some community theatre.â Less rigorous than Broadway, but still what he loved--there had to be compromise somewhere, didnât there? There had to be a way to make everything go a little bit back to normal.
âBut thereâs no rush, right? Donât wanna move too fast, right?â
