Anon you are the best for asking me this question which allows me to be extremely self indulgent and talk about my characters. If anybody reads through all this rambling they will gain nothing, I recommend you don’t do it, but the Shepard question did make me think of stuff I hadn’t thought about before which is hard to do when it comes to my BW characters and I appreciate it.

Aura Lavellan idolises my Faolan Mahariel. He wouldn’t approve of her rejecting her Dalish roots, even if he knew about her reasons. Faolan would believe that the current-day value of their community is more important than the circumstances of their origins. Aura, on the other hand, feels like the foundations of the Dalish clans are a lie, and that makes it worthless as a way to organise your society.

Cera Hawke thinks that Faolan Mahariel is basically a good thing, she does have the link that her boyfriend knew him personally and they were on good terms so she’s heard good things about him. I feel like Faolan Mahariel would believe that my rebel mage Hawke’s priorities were all wrong, he would want to perpetuate peace rather than going for her ‘freedom at any cost’ philosophy. He was best bros with Anders though so he’d definitely want to be on good terms with the girlfriend.

Aura kind of wishes she could be like Hawke because she also really supports the mages. But Aura is way too diplomatic to add much bite to her support. She probably fantasizes about being able to just start a war and damn the consequences like Hawke could, but she doesn’t have that nature. Meanwhile, the later-in-life, regret-filled Hawke wishes she had been more like Aura when she was younger. I don’t think Aura and Hawke are close, but they recognise themselves in each other.
