Hey y'all! Post #2 after my long, long hiatus and after reactivating my account to read Rise of the TMNT comics. And I guess I got inspired?

Anyway, I wrote a fanfiction. It was prose at first, but my hand slipped and now there's a drawing. Then my hand slipped again and now there's a comic version in the works. So I'll be sharing that once it's done, but in the meantime have the drawing!

The fanfic is called "What Kind of Hero," and it shows a conversation between Donnie and Leo after Leo wakes up in a panic from a nightmare about the events of the movie. I'll probably share both the prose version and the comic version, since they have elements that work better for each medium.

They were silent for a long moment. Leo leaned against Raph's plastron, and Raph stroked Leo’s shell the way he'd done when they were kids, navigating carefully around the repaired crater in its center. If I could keep my mystic form around him for the rest of my life, he thought, I would.

Happy Open the Floodgates y'all! I've been working on two fanfics (one of which is also a comic) and both take place primarily in the lair, which... is very unclear in its design, albeit a very cool concept. So after watching those 4 movie scenes an embarrassing number of times, I attempted to map it. It still makes no sense, but here goes!

No! Donnie bit his lip so hard that he tasted blood. We can't let go. His mind refused to process what would happen if they did. He only knew that they had to fight like hell to hold on.

The wheels ground against the tracks with the horrific shriek of metal on metal. Donnie's heart pounded through his entire body and the awful sound resonated painfully through his teeth and spine, but relief surged: it seemed to be working.

Donnie is fluent in ASL because he uses it when he goes nonverbal/has an autistic shutdown

Leo is a medic

The lair has a medbay

Mikey sleeps in a hammock

Events of the movie left Raph blind in one eye, Mikey/Raph/Donnie with mystic cracks, and Leo severely traumatized

They have tails??

Donnie hacks ATMs for money

In the future timeline, Raph died before Donnie

Leo considers him and Donnie twins, and Donnie disagrees because scientifically they are literally different species

Donnie as a baby/toddler is a) nearly blind and b) FERAL/bites people

Leo and Donnie each have one red eye and one blue eye

Portal duo/baja blast/wits and whimsy: Leo and Mikey

Sunset duo: Raph and Mikey

Disaster twins: Leo and Donnie

Leader duo/magma/A Team: Leo and Raph

Raph and Donnie?? I haven't actually seen people refer to that duo in creative ways.

One of the benefits of being the resident technological expert was that it was Donnie’s job to create solutions to problems. Fix a broken item. Invent something to fill an empty niche. ... It was far less comfortable to send someone else to complete the dangerous task and wait for them to come back.

“I'm not good at words like the others,” Raph said. “But I just want you to see yourself the way we see you, just for a minute. You're not broken, you need help. That's part of what makes a leader: knowing when you can't do it alone. Just because you can't do it alone doesn't mean you can't do it.”

Donnie looked at him, and something cracked in his expression. “Raph, I…” Unable to continue, he signed the word DIE, then curled his hands around each other and squeezed them until his knuckles turned white.

Raph laid a hand on his hands. “I know,” he murmured. “I’ll find him.”

“I don't think we should all go,” Raph said. “He might portal again if it looks like an intervention.”

“I agree,” said Donnie. “There's no sense in putting us all in danger unnecessarily. Two of us can stay here and watch for… traffic.” Mikey winced.

“Here’s the other thing.” Donnie raised his gauntlet and pressed the microphone button. “Testing. One, one, two, three, five, eight…” His voice cut in and out from Raph’s and Mikey’s transmitters before dissolving into static.

“How have we not come up with a communication system that works underground?” Mikey demanded. “We live underground!”

“Yes, and you'll notice I spent months strengthening the signals in the lair and the Turtle Tank specifically,” Donnie said. Discussing his tech seemed to bring him back to himself a little. “Any transmission type I tried had dead zones, and I decided to prioritize communication topside.”

“So whoever we send is pretty much on their own,” Raph said. “Who?”

Donnie blew out a breath. “I've gone over the options, and I think it has to be you, Raph.”

Donnie and Mikey appeared on the other side of the door. “What happened?” asked Donnie. “We heard raised voices.”

“He portaled away,” Raph said. “I… wouldn’t say it was going well before then.”

“I was so sure the risotto was going to work,” Mikey lamented. “What did you say? What did he say?”

Raph looked away. “I might've... maybe... told him that he was bringing the team down.”

“You what?!” Mikey yelled, looking horrified.

Donnie frowned in thought. “Well, looking at things objectively, he is kind of bringing the team down,” he commented.

Mikey glared at him. “And looking at things whatever-the-opposite-of-objectively-is, he—is—our—brother”—he punctuated each word with a smack to Raph’s plastron—“and we need to find him! Donnie—”

“Already on it.” Donnie tapped away at his tech gauntlet.

Raph hesitated. “I don’t know, guys. He made it pretty clear that he wanted to be alone.”

Mikey shook his head. “Some people who say they want to be alone really mean the opposite.”
