A lifetime of tales to tell - or is it lifetimes?
Between the realms and behind the veil-
Through my eyes-
And through others.
Not often alone-
But not usually with "friends."
Time is irrelevant-
There is no sequence-
There is only the telling.

The Hub
It began with an abrupt transition: an ordinary dream (redacted) was interrupted. Amidst "reading some information," my head began to swim. It was that intense, dizzy, pulling feeling: if youâve ever been put under and were aware of the moment it took effect, it was very similar to that.
This is a long, detailed tale to tell, so let me cut it into the below. Read on, friend.
The Crystal Serpent
Who are you, strange being? So massive yet defying space itself. Dragon like, but not a dragon at all. A form that seems to defy all laws, even glowing in colors that I can't perceive or even conjure a proper image of. So vast and intimidating, but feeling like warmth. Love. Kindness. Protection. I can't craft an image of you, as you don't shape correctly in 2 or 3 dimensions.
It was so brief we met. You spoke without speaking. Told me to find two of my companions and connect them - to this space? To you? Yet you never once said their names. You just echoed the feeling of them, pulling on intangible strings that they remain tethered to despite us physically drifting apart.
A being of light and dimension, and also darkness, spaces between. Certain areas around your form would black out the space behind it with Pure Nothing. Unfathomable in more ways that I can articulate.
You did not come close. I wish I could see you closer.
You gave me a name for you I can't remember.
You put something on my right arm that swirled, tingled and burned like fresh ink, then faded as time passed.
You said to call for you when I'm in need.
But who is it I'm calling for?
In need of what, exactly?
The Lake
A noisy house regularly breaking my sleep created the local-wandering condition it typically had at the time. Onto the echo of the table nearby I rolled, and out the side door I wandered. Everything was incredibly dark, so I made my way by the vague shadows of familiar objects, grumbling all the way about lack of visuals due to conflicting perspectives. I vaulted over the gate, around to the driveway, and into the back yard as my vision brightened and came into focus. I was greeted by a wall of pure white fog, or mist, just beyond the border of the back yard. "This again..." It hadn't been the first time I'd seen the wall of white along the treeline, though it's a phenomena that's been specific to this particular parallel area. Over time, I'd learned going through it meant I'm wasn't going to be local anymore, or at least, not right where, or when, the wall of fog sits.
Making my way through the treeline and into the fog, I found myself stepping into the other side beside a vaguely familiar lake, and an unusually large dog akin to a dalmatian. Or, perhaps, I was unusually small. She had unusually intelligent eyes full of complex thought, wisdom, and knowledge. Eyes that I've found many would call belonging to "an old soul." Eyes that smiled down at me with a mother's gentleness as she unexpectedly picked me up by the scruff of the neck and quietly walked towards the lake. I was... entranced, I suppose. Something within me said to trust this creature, and whether it was her presence itself or the gentle pressure of her grasp, my thoughts went quiet and my head felt numb. We waded into the lake, and an indescribable tingly, hot energy charged through me like electricity. I couldn't think on it much with such a foggy head fighting against such an intense feeling, but in my daze, I wondered what she had planned for me here. Unsure if it was a moment or an age that passed, eventually, the intense energy, the pressure on my neck, and the feeling of her presence vanished simultaneously, as if shut off by a lightswitch.
I was left sitting in a daze on the shore. My phantom presence slumped and faded, and I slipped into a strange dream of walking through memories of long-gone faces, tracing old connections through time.
The Bus
'I' was on a bus, but not traveling anywhere, instead being carefully watched by the driver as he worked. Captive, but only loosely. I had a medicated food I had to eat at a specific interval to keep something under control. It was like an inner beast, a situation reminiscent of "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hide," but not by any cause of my own, at least that I was aware of. To me, it seemed a terrible place to be watching 'me', surrounded by the public and putting them at risk.
There came a point that either the dose had been mis-measured or I had been taking the wrong amount. I ran out completely, having waited until the last second to eat it, panicking when, instead, there was none to be found. It was a scramble to try and craft something that would work in its place, but there was nothing I had that would be of any use. For a while, a sudden appearance of familiar animal companions kept me calm and under control. A hallucination, perhaps? A hologram? I'm unsure what to make of this. When the companions stopped being as effective, they faded from existence. The bus stopped for a moment, and in walked this tall, darkly dressed woman, sitting about 4 seats away from me. She stared - not menacingly, but intensely, filling me with a deep intuition that I absolutely could not let myself change or lose control around this woman.
I can remember her talking to me shortly, but what was said was lost to the ether, so to speak. It was related to the transformation; she clearly knew my situation, and perhaps this-me, personally. It seemed like an age sitting there in this ball of strange feelings, a storm of conflicting energies, fighting to keep it under control and unseen, tears escaping my eyes despite my internal protest.
Eventually, the storm of near-madness calmed in my mind and body. A slight but sincere smile came across this woman's face, followed by a short 'good' and a wave of her hand.
Blackness.

The Purifier
A young girl, but not myself. Of 9 or 10 years in a crowd of waiting people, paying more attention to the others my age. It was the perspective of a child taken on an errand: the waiting was boring and made no sense, and the will to play and explore was strong. A few in the crowd stood out from the rest, including myself and my grandmother. Our kind would notably have more coverings on, and many of us were taller than typical 'people.' Grandmother and I had unusually shaped faces that angled down towards our pointed noses, wild white hair, and long ears resembling a hare or a rabbit - not lop, but I had knowledge that we were always supposed to keep them under a scarf tied into our hair, instructed to keep them modest as far back as I could recall. It was hard to miss them, though, even on my grandmother, as looking up at her immediately revealed her enormous ears tucked along her back under her head covering. Otherwise, we draped ourselves in loose but opaque clothing, lightweight and soft, hiding features like slender limbs and unusually long fingers.
The scene was short-lived, but steeped in chaos. An ugly, wide-bodied, stocky man had stormed the high-ceilinged, sterile, wide-open hall we were waiting in. He was crazed and enraged, hatred practically seeping from his visible pores, brandishing a weapon. He had a bloodlust that my naive young eyes couldn't quite comprehend, but a later perspective makes it plain as day. The man was an extremist: a 'purifier,' someone that believed our kind - the ones mutated from the typical species into something different - needed to be removed from society by whatever means possible. I remember telling my 'friends' I was going to try to talk to the man to calm him down, despite their shock, protest and strong warnings. I ventured towards the noise, Grandmother un-aware of my wandering, but froze immediately when he barged into the room. He shouted insults, hatred and threats at the mutated-types present, pulling out something akin to a gun that fired shrapnel instead of bullets. I retreated, terrified, to the other side of my grandmother's legs. I can't be sure if she herself was very tall, or if our particular kind were very short as children, but I barely came up to her torso, making it easy to hide behind her and within her clothing folds.
The scene erupted. Terrified screaming. Gunfire. Bustling chaos as the crowd scattered in attempts to escape. Grandmother widened her stance and put her arm in front of me, obscuring me behind the long, draping sleeve cloth.
Violent blood splatter rained from above.
Terror.
Numbness/confusion.
Hearing faded from a pitched ring to near-silence.
Sight blinked out.
