i rlly want to write a fic bout c!grian with hermitcraft setting, but i only know his lore (like watchers, backstory, this sruff), not the others 😔. is there anything that can quickly bring me up to speed with the rest of the hermits?
and I can't do it myself (like, watch all important videos from all channels?????) bc i touch too many grass. I don't have that much time
okay who tf is the lamp guy? I've seen only one explanation and it was Stephen Hawking😭😭😭.
he must be related to Clark, bc his life still reacted to captain appearance and was scared like Clark wife's life still
It's called having fun, you should try it
and this is how toxic ooc fanons are created
egg with the hoes bc he as an angel reaps a harvest of human souls in honor of his deity

I haven't seen any "rocky is like a pet".
what I've seen is "grace is like a pet"
and i don't like it.
comparing grace to a pet is dehumanising. he's, in fact, kinda dehumanised in an aliens society, bc they don't understand our mentality and don't treat him as one of them. they don't treat him as a pet too, but still.
also i dont like all of this "human biology/culture is stupid, statement". in the book grace and rocky both agreed to each others rights to act in accordance with their culture. in fanfics grace doesn't say anything about erid, but rocky says a lot about earth. idk, with the pet thing it feels really imbalanced to me
"I'm slowly forgetting your face", but Colt can't.
every time he unexpectedly stumbles upon a new mirror, his heart sinks. just for a mere moment. this moment is not enough to even think about something, but it is enough to cause pain. so he changes himself. he grows his hair long and dyes it black, he gets piercings and grows a beard, he gets tattoos and tries out unusual clothing styles. and when that doesn't help, he stops looking in the mirrors. but they are not the ones who store the memory.
there is a scar on his knee from when he fell off the bike he was riding with his brother. оn his shoulder there is a scattering of moles, the placement of which they compared in childhood. оn his bag hangs a keychain his brother gave him because it "reminds me of you." so he stops trying, he returns to his normal appearance and faces every mirror.
but now he realized that he did not remember those differences that had always seemed obvious to the two of them. hе frantically looks through all the old photographs, but too many years have passed and his face has aged. he doesn't remember if they laughed at their slightly different noses or the different squint, did they have the same lips and how exactly were the moles on their shoulders different. аnd what difference does it make? hе's not getting any younger.
at some point he will look in the mirror and for the first time in a long time he will feel nothing, because... the man in the mirror is not Ryland. Ryland was not so tired, gray and wrinkled. Ryland smiled and seemed to glow with this inner energy, thirst for knowledge and kindness. the man in the mirror is Colt, tired and broken, wrapping himself in an old cardigan in the hope of escaping the all-consuming cold.
i can't stop thinking bout bloodymary. in the most non-romantical ways but can't
if we assume that Simon is from the future... and even despite the fact that according to the lore, the colonization of Mars began in 1995, which means the story is already different... we'll make the admission for comic effect.
language changes quickly. and it is quite possible that Simon will be able to understand Grace, but will have some specific expressions. and it is also quite possible that some of the slang words from the present may become a common word in the future. and it's even more possible that Grace, being a teacher, knows this slang. and like...
"wow. rocky is lowkirkenuinely a rizzler. adrian's such a baddie, 10/10 gyatt"
"simon, stfu"
not so usual bloodymary
Grace and Rocky are flying through space on their way to Eris when they suddenly notice a strange anomaly. It seems as if one of the planets simply appeared out of nowhere after a whirlwind of spatial disturbances. This planet is red. The closer the Ave Maria gets, the clearer it becomes that the entire surface is covered in blood. Strange, boiling, but familiar human blood.
The ship's sensors detect movement on the surface. Grace steers the ship even closer. closer and closer, until it becomes possible to discern something covering the entire planet.
It is a tree.
The tree is so huge that its roots have spread across the entire planet. It amazes with its size. Its crown reaches the atmosphere, and its branches, trunk and roots contain an entire ecosystem. and this tree is definitely alive. There are no winds to disturb the fragile foliage, but the tree moves, trembles slightly and sways. It moves its roots and sometimes seems to shift in place, as if tired of sitting still.
"Amaze, amaze, amaze" said Rocky.
Grace felt a slight melancholy. He didn't know if it was because he missed the trees of Earth, or because he couldn't share Rocky's delight. He had no strength, because the comatose state had ended a couple of months ago. But something in his soul seemed to be drawn to this tree. Probably just simple scientific interest.
"Did we record this, Rocky? This planet was definitely not on radar before. maybe some kind of magnetic field was hiding it from us... We'll have to take a look when we arrive at Eris, it's definitely some kind of interesting anomaly."
Ave Maria continued its movement, moving further and further away.
I have seen takes where Grace snores MEGA LOUD and Rocky is like ‘holy shit that’s so cute he’s purring’ but I raise you this as well: Grace is a teacher, which is like being a parent, so Grace has dad sneezes, which if you don’t know are MEGA LOUD sneezes that are kinda scary (bonus bonus: my dad yawns like someone yelling I hate it it scares me lmao, so this too) and Rocky hears it and is all ‘…holy shit that was so cute wtf noise was that?????’
when I was a kid, I would hear loud sneezes several (high-rise) buildings away on the and I would understand that my dad was coming home. imagine a sneeze that pierces the space-time continuum to reach earth.
stratt: it's almost like i can still hear him😓

my fav challenge:
open ao3, search random fandom and just reading fanfics till u can understand the plot and know characters
holy larp but idgaf
i find it quite interesting how people choose to portray eridian society as close to ideal
i think that it can leads to some psychological researches but i still refuse to read the book to distinguish canon and fanon
abother day, another eridian hc post
anddddd we're back to the music theme again
so, for this one we're gonna talk bout human biology first
in fact, we still don't know much about the nature of music. there are even speculations about why music appeared in the first place. of the main theories:
• music as part of social bonding. it is known that joint activities bring people together, and music requires a high level of coordination of group activities. a feeling of belonging to a group
• music as a by-product of speech (аuditory cheesecake). then music is a by-product of adaptations such as language, signal recognition, which affects the pleasure centers without providing any practical survival benefit. highly doubt
• and music as sexual signal. music requires a lot of brain activity, and the selection of partners was based, among other things, on intellectual characteristics
and we don't know enough about eridians to say whether any of these principles might apply to them. we don't know about their evolution, ancient societies, etc. so we'll accept it as a fact that they have music
but will it be pleasant to our ears? and will they like our music?
ahhh yep
i saw the tags and hope u don't mind if i add my thoughts (๑•﹏•)
it's about "eridians wouldn't enjoy our music bc it sounds like gibberish to him". i've seen quite a few people who hold this point of view. but i don’t think that this particular part will be a problem.
we can assume two things:
1) еridians would perceive our music as a completely indistinct set of sounds resembling words
2) eridians would perceive our music as a series of incoherent words that they could understand
and, in fact, we have an example of both types in our music.
if we take the first option, then these are literally songs in a foreign language. especially if we take groups of similar languages (slavic languages, germanic, romanic, etc). you are familiar with the phonetics of a similar language and you can even understand some words, but the fact that you do not understand the meaning or that some sounds are similar to your words, but are not, does not interfere with your enjoyment of music
if we take the second take... it's very similar to the first, + there are songs written in gibberish on earth. the most famous example is Prisencolinensinainciusol by celentano. and ngl this music is kinda slaps
so the problem of perceiving music as gibberish can only arise if eridians do not develop the phenomenon of music as such that is familiar to us. then I think if they have music it might be percussion based (I just reread your tags, I assumed this in my other post too!( ╹▽╹ ). if not, and if eridians have our equivalent of music, we return to my original post
and yes, it's realy interesting how david teie worked with scientist to create his songs for animals. and i believe that "cat music" was designed to be pleasant for human ears too.
аn important fact about how the music was created is that both cat music and, apparently, tamaran music contained elements of their vocalizations. "Music inspired by the soothing calls of contented monkeys relaxes the animals when it is played back to them, researchers have discovered. They found that while monkeys were left cold by human music, they reacted emotionally to tunes that incorporated features commonly heard in monkey calls, such as rising and falling tones. Tamarin monkeys lounged around and ate more when they heard music inspired by the calming sounds the animals make when they are safe, the study found. Music based on more fearful monkey calls made the animals agitated and anxious when it was played in their enclosure."
the human brain is more complex, so we don't just react to familiar human cries, but, as mentioned, the brain still prefers certain frequencies. it follows from this that:
1) our music may have a calming effect because it is similar to the language of the Eridians, just as the monkey-like sounds calmed them
2) our music can scare the hell out of them. i don't know if it's because it sounds like their predatory animals or like the cries of sacrificed babies... but it could very well be
and ofc if we're speaking bout "low voice to high" - monkeys has it too! and even if we're not so different from each other in evolutionary perspective, their music still sucks to us

I can't imagine human rocky as rocktiz bc in the film he gave off such a strong energy of a restless teenager that it became ridiculous. i imagined him as our equivalent of like mid 20s? for me, his clubbing era hasn't ended yet. and adrian is his school's love.
idc if ts not accurate

it's my take on humanoid egg
"aroaces may still date other people and have sex. the spectrum means they may have a low amount of attraction, not no attraction at all" oh dude shut up it's just an excuse to ship your favs. amatonormativity in it's peak
