Hollywoodâs new scream queen is making a splash in the industry and her wave seems to be moving fast. Making leaps and bounds far from where she began just a few short years ago, her current roles are a dramatic night and day difference from the cookie cutter role she started with. Seemingly loving every step of this new direction, Stefanie Scott is all smiles, but the new characters she plays highlight a more intense side underneath her spirited surface.
Moving from a sleepy beach town in Florida to Los Angeles jumpstarted what has now become a quickly escalating career on the big screen. âI donât know if I knew this is what I wanted to do, but I always loved story telling. At night when I fell asleep I would write movies in my head and figure out what I wanted to do. I was so dramatic when I was little, I would act out movies out by myself and they would all be so dramatic and scary. Iâve always been really into dark stories. Iâve always loved things that make you think and things that are deeply intriguing.â Her role in Insidious 3 was the perfect place to channel this darker energy, landing her the role in a movie she always dreamed of playing. She lights up as she talks about her time on set, gigging and quietly swaying to The Killers playing in the background. Her energy is a striking difference to the intensity she channels in her thrillers. But donât be fooled by her sparkling exterior; Stefanie is an intense creative, ready to push boundaries and break out of the bubblegum vision her fans may have had of her. âI think for me, Iâm just so in love with the work that I get to do now. Every character has been so different and so exciting. I finally get to tell real stories. I grew up on a kidâs show I guess, and everything had to be so perfect all the time. Thatâs what I love about now, and the characters I play. My goal is to make it as authentic as possible and not sugar coat things. Just like in life, I think itâs important to stay true to yourself and stay true to your characters. For the show that I was on I was of course very grateful for the experience, but it was definitely very hard growing up in the public eye and being perfect and happy all the time. You canât really express yourself.â
Playing the role of Pierce Brosnanâs daughter in I.T. pushed her even further into the deep and dark corners of a classic suspense story. âItâs a pretty dark thriller. Itâs pretty sexy, actually. We barely wrapped in August. It was a powerful experience, but was also so much fun. I was really excited to try new things and I was definitely out of my comfort zone just because of how adult the material was. It didnât make me uncomfortable, but I guess people get to see me in kind of a different way now. I had a really intense scene, it was really fun.â
Taking a huge turn from her first major role in Jem and the Holograms, Stefanie seems to have found her niche. Sheâs scheduled to begin filming another movie early next year, a Sci-Fi passion project that will continue to push her into new places, and weâre not talking about planet itâs taking place on! 2016 is looking like a big year for her, but sheâs still making time for friends and other creative avenues. âPeople forget thereâs this whole life outside of my job, and thereâs a person behind the characters I play. I have close friends and itâs important for me to make time for all of that. I have so much I need to achieve! I want to do Broadway one day, and there are so many places I want to travel to and places I want to see. Iâm open to so much. Iâm growing and changing every day so maybe there will be a different career Iâll want tomorrow!â
Her enthusiasm is not lost on her fans; Stefanieâs creative spirit and zest for new chapters in her career are delightfully captivating, leaving us ready to read each one as they are written. Her compelling story is one we will most definitely continue to follow.
