He tilted his head, watching him for a moment before he slowly followed with careful steps. It was still kind of weird, walking, somewhat strange, but he wouldn’t know why. He didn’t know about that strange device either that hummed and was bright when it was opened, but he sat down a few steps in front of it nevertheless and waited.
Steve noticed the little creature's wobbling and chuckled softly, only taking it as though the pup was still young and not quite familiar with the fashion of walking.
"Okay, buddy." Steve grinned as the pup came up to him, tearing a piece of sausage and handed it out to the cub, "Try it. It's good, I promise."

Earl followed along after him, smiling when Steve opened the door for him. Chuckling to himself, he got into the passenger seat, fiddlign with his hands until Steve got in and started the car. Leaning back in his seat, he glanced at the radio and shook his head.
"I think I’m good. Unless you want to listen to something?"
After all, he wasn’t going to restrict the man in his own car and from the way he shrugged, it was pretty easy to see that he didn’t much care either way. Instead he looked out the window, sucking lightly on his bottom lip between stealing glances at the other man.
"Alright..."
He knew the man was glancing at him. He could practically feel the gaze burning on his ear and his cheek, like the blazing afternoon sun in the desert. "..." Steve cleared his throat, reached for the radio just to break the silence that seemed to be heating up the space way too fast.
"...Dear listeners-"
Steve switched off the radio in a flash the second the smooth, sonorous voice (almost hypnotizing) came out of the speakers. "......"

Cecil let out a humorless laugh, opening his eyes again. His fingers curled around Steve’s in a smooth movement that seemed like a reflex, and old habit revisited. Steve’s mention of an end made him squeeze the other man’s hand, as if afraid that he would fade away if Cecil didn’t hold on to him.
“I can never leave this place,” he whispered simply, his voice weak and vulnerable. He shook his head. “It’s too late for me. I can dream, and I can wish, but I can never—”
He broke off, his voice faltering. A tear slid down his cheek.
The gesture had taken Steve by surprise. It was almost... intimate, familiar and... he didn't want to say loving.
He kept his eyes on the side of Cecil's face when the tear streamed down; his heart tightened in a way his hand did, lacing his fingers with Cecil's, giving the man a firm squeeze and held tight.
"...I know."
Nobody can leave Night Vale.

"Ahhh… looks like you and I are stuck together now." He sighed when he failed to find a collar or any form of identification. He chuckled softly at the nudging against his hand and petted the baby animal’s head and neck with a warm smile that’s not usually seen on Steve’s face. "Are you hungry? Better fix you something to eat, don’t we?"
He licked over the man’s hand at that as if agreement, although he did not understand a single word. He just liked the sounds he made. Also he petted him, so he had to be a nice guy.
"Come on." Steve announced and put the pup on the ground and stood up. He went to the kitchen, making sure the puppy was following, "Come here, boy."
Steve didn't have any pets, not to mention dog food, but he did find some sausage in the fridge that he bet the pup would like.
