Im Gonna Make Them Kiss

He thought of Wayne sometimes in the in between of dying, the few moments on continued clarity. He wanted to apologize for putting him through so much. To tell him thank you for being the only real dad he’d ever known. Eddie hoped Wayne knew how much he loved him.

He thought about Steve everytime he woke for that few precious moments before struggling to breath again. How he’d wished he told the man how he actually felt. Wishes he’d gotten to kiss him.

Lastly in the moments he gave in to unconsciousness he’d think of Dustin. Of how he’d must of felt watching him die in his arms. Grateful now the poor kid didn’t have to watch this.

Eddie wished he could do everything over again. But that’s where this must of gotten him, right? Over and over. This special brand of hell.

“I hid him. He’s the only toy my dad didn’t manage to throw out.” He mentioned with a shrug, like it wasn’t heart breaking.

Eddie knew immediately how important that lion was. When Steve was sick or having a really rough time, he’d bring him soup or a treat with Leonard in tow. He never mentions it, just makes sure he’s close at hand.

One day Steve comes home from a long day at work. “Hey babe I’m home!” He called, setting his stuff down. “I’m in the bedroom!” He got a call back. Steve set about toeing his shoes off and headed down the hall, stopping in the doorway.

Eddie was puttering around their room cleaning up, with Leonard perched on his head. He turned and grinned at Steve. “Hey baby. Me and Mr Leonard here were cleaning up. Gotta have a good cleaning buddy.”

Steve had been digging through a box of tapes when Robin asks, bored at the register.

It was a few weeks before spring break of 1986 and they were getting new shipments in to get ready for the busy week.

“Huh? Why would I need super powers? I’ve seen what that could do to a person.” He pointed out, setting the box back behind the counter.

“Okay but hypothetically. What would you pick?” Robin asked again, choosing this subject stubbornly.

“I honestly have no idea Robs. I’ve never put that much thought into it.” Steve replied, thankful when a group of teenagers wandered in and the subject was dropped.

A few weeks later, Robin is digging through a first aid kit. Steve is sat on the edge of his bathtub. They’re both still filthy and covered in blood. Robin turns around to see tears streaks down Steve’s cheeks, creating paths through the filth.

“Steve…?”

“Time travel.” Steve rasps out, arms wrapped around himself.

“Huh?” Robin asked, confused as she brings the kit over to help clean him up, along with some tissues.

“You asked me a few weeks ago. What I’d want my super power to be.” He whispered, slowly unwrapping his arms to stare at his bloodstained hands. The ones that had clung to Eddie when they found him and Dustin. Where they had to leave the man’s body behind in the upside down to save themselves.

Who had migraines so badly that he has to have Eddie help put blankets over the windows and doors to block out any noise or light.

“This is Steve.” He grunted, reaching over to turn the heat off of a bubbling pot. There was a long suffering sigh on the other end.

“We found him on private property and he jumped a damn fence. Couldn’t catch him. Make sure he gets his hand check, left blood where he pushed off.” The voice of the new chief came over the speaker. “Get your husband under control or I swear I’m going to arrest him. No matter if your dad is the old police chief.” He grunted before hanging up.

Steve pinched the bridge of his nose. This was the second time this week, never mind the last few months. There was nothing to do but to wait until Eddie got home.

He was finishing dinner when he heard the back door open and quiet shuffling to the hall bathroom. “Hey babe! Have a nice walk?” Steve called, hearing the steps stop. “Oh! Uh yeah it was good, very calm.”

“That’s so weird then. Because the Chief called me today. Didn’t sound like a peaceful walk to me.”

Eddie appeared in the doorway with a cloth wrapped around his hand and a sheepish expression. “Well you see I was playing Pokémon go-“ “On private property?” “Well there was a shiny…” Eddie stopped when he noticed the look Steve was giving him. “You jumped a damn fence. A tall one.”

“No, it was like middle height-“

“You cut your hand!”

“No it’s just scratch..”

Steve threw his hands up. “Babe, love and chaos of my life. You are in your fifties. You shouldn’t be running around in abandon private property for a game.”

“You wouldn’t understand. You aren’t down to clown like I am, old man.” Eddie flipped his hair and walked back down the hall.

Steve: oh it’s a good stim for him, especially when he’s happy. Plus it feels good

More than once he and Steve have been chilling and smoking. Once Eddie hits a good high, he’ll start pacing, spouting facts and things that excite him, passages from books or fun facts about movies. Then he’ll just stop dead in his tracts, looking at Steve. And he’ll just well up with emotions because he just loves his boyfriend so much. Like he’d forgotten how much he loves that man and doesn’t know how to handle it.

So he just crawls into Steve’s lap, clinging like a kola and makes sure Steve understands that he is his universe.

Eddie already high off his ass: Would you like me to impart some words of wisdom to make you feel better?

Corroded coffin has gotten big enough for larger venues now. Steve was so proud of them. He and Eddie had agreed on day one he’d stay with them. He helped manage the band behind the scenes. Steve loved it. He loved the guys and getting to spend their days off exploring different parts of the cities they toured.

It was hard sometimes though, at places like this especially. Sometimes he got migraines and had to come later. Or wanted to step out for a smoke. Large venues like this had large back of the house and green rooms but some times he just needed to get out.

That wasn’t the problem. Getting back in was. Even with his back stage access pass, a lot of the time the venue security refused to believe that the man before them was the lead singers husband.

How could he be? The man in the yellow polo and jeans with perfectly coifed hair at a metal concert didn’t look like he belonged in the venue let alone with the band. And that was his problem right at this moment.

Steve looked up at the large looking men. Two of them, looking unimpressed with him. “Look, I don’t know where you stole that pass from but everyone knows Munsons husband’s name. Get out of here before we throw you out.”

Steve ran a hand through his hair. He was trying not to get frustrated. He appreciated them, honestly. He wanted to keep Eddie safe. But fuck he did not want to do this right now. “I appreciate you doing your job. But I’ve got my badge. Call back to Ed’s security. Describe me to them. Hell tell them the shirt I’m wearing, Cj helped pick it out, says it’s a good yellow. Mat says it’s too horrendous but it somehow suits me. Couldn’t tell if that’s a compliment honestly.” Steve shrugged. The guards look unamused.

Finally the one on the left sighs. “Fine I’ll walkie back. If they say they have no clue who you are we’re kicking you completely out and trespassing you. Sure you want to gamble that?” The guy smirked and Steve shrugged. “Go for it.”

Guy walkied for the bands security. “Got a preppy looking guy here. Think he stole a backstage pass.” Steve can hear Cj’s voice crackle over the walkie. “He wearing an amazingly blinding yellow polo?” “Yes…” “That’s Munson’s hubby, let him through.”

Eddie: so you got me and Steve together for enrichment?

Robin: Like I didn’t just get you together for enrichment I got you becauseI love you guys and think you fit well. But the enrichment for my platonic soulmate was also a considering factor

Steve: she does she own us

Eddie: *immediately chugs the rest of it*

Robin: what the fuck Eddie that was Steve’s

Eddie: His sippy is my sippy and my sippy is his sippy, it’s in our vows

Robin: you’re not married
