“I love you.” Whispers TJ against those soft lips that felt like home. He wasn’t sure if he said it for Sean’s benefit or his own. He places his hand on the side of Sean’s face as he pulls back from the kiss and caresses his lower lip with his thumb. “I’m sorry for… being what I am.” A man, gay, in love with him. “I’m sorry for what I did to your family. I just never loved someone as much as I love you. I didn’t know I could love anyone until I met you. It’s selfish but… I actually like myself when I’m with you.”

“I don’t want to talk.” Anything but talking. Sex seemed like a good option but if TJ is being honest with himself, he probably wouldn’t be able to get it up after all the alcohol he drank and he stupidly asked to top. “Just kiss me, Sean.”

“Nothing. Why do you ask?” The tears are visible and the smile that usually rests on his lips is gone but his pride is still there and there’s no way he’s going to admit to crying. Especially not now because he didn’t want Sean to feel as bad as he did. “Take off your pants.”

Everything was perfect. TJ was perfect. The kiss itself is perfect. Sean goes as far as to smiling into the kiss. That is until he can hear TJ start crying. A reaction that causes for the blond to pull away. Looking at his boyfriend with pure concern etched across his features. Did he do something wrong? Is this a result of their earlier conversation? Of what happened with his mother? It would make the most sense.

“I’ve heard that before.”

For some reason straight guys were attracted to TJ Hammond. They’d say they were gay, bi, curious, anything to bed him and it usually worked. In his drunken state, TJ seemed to have forgotten just how long he’d been with Sean. This wasn’t a fling. They were talking marriage and kids. This wasn’t Sean just liking his ass but TJ’s mind was all over the place right now. All his insecurities had come up to haunt him.

TJ drops his pants and steps out of them, looking up at a shirtless Sean. “Oh I don’t care if you’re straight or not. You’re too fucking hot.”

“We’re also dating.” In case TJ managed to forget that little tad bit of information. At the same time, the blond also knows that his boyfriend is drunk. Believing that added in with what his mother previously said are to blame. Hence the reason why he doesn’t find the need to continue reminding him. Hoping that he’ll know the truth come morning when he’s sober again. And if not? Then Sean will continue to remind the man he loves just how much he means to him. But right now Sean is a bit distracted by other things.

Looking down at his boyfriend who is now without a shirt and pants. Absentmindedly biting on his bottom lip at the sight before him. How did he get so lucky? “I could say the same.”

“If only you could love my dick as much.” TJ says it so casually, it doesn’t even sound like he’s upset about the thought. As he’s walking into the room, he’s already shedding his clothing and making himself comfortable. He kicks one shoe here, the other there, he tosses the tie and unbuttons the shirt. “Why do i always go for the straight guys? It’s my curse, isn’t it? That and being Bud’s kid.”

“You like my ass, Congressman Reeves.” TJ is being loud, walking down the hallway of their hotel. He’s too drunk to even consider there might people in the rooms they walk by. “I have a great ass though so…” He shrugs. “Are we having sex tonight?” Because as much as TJ wanted to be a girl right now… “I want to top.”

“I wish I had breasts.” If it wasn’t clear before - TJ is drunk. He also had horrible timing cause the elevator doors opened and a young couple was standing there just as TJ spoke. TJ is too out of it to care. “Boobs and a vagina. I could have your babies and your mom would like me a little bit more.” He’s walking out of the elevator and not shutting up about this genius thought he had. “I think I’d be a hot girl.”

When the bartender returns with the bill, TJ signs his name and makes sure the bill goes to their hotel room. He then finishes his drink in a gulp and slowly stands from his seat. He takes a second to regain his balance before following his boyfriend to the elevator. 

TJ’s quiet now. Unusually quiet. Usually drunk TJ is all over the place but he’s very closed off right now. Maybe he’s tired, maybe it’s the alcohol but maybe it’s everything.

The silence within the elevator is broken by a hiccup and a quiet, “Sorry.”

Silence engulfs the pair as they leave the bar and travel to the elevator. Although the same cannot be said about the thoughts that are constantly roaming through Sean’s mind. Sooner or later this is something they’ll need to talk about again. Either tonight, tomorrow, or another day. Just forgetting about it completely will do absolutely nothing to solve things. He knows this. But he also knows this is a delicate topic. Hence the reason for the silence up until TJ breaks it with a simple apology in the elevator.

“Stop kissing my ass.” That’s what it sounded like to TJ. It didn’t even sound true to him. It just sounded like Sean was trying way too hard to make him feel better. 

TJ’s fingers are still around the glass and he lifts it up to his lips for a drink just as the bartender brings their take out order over to them. TJ doesn’t say thank you, he doesn’t even move. 

“Guess we should go up to the room.”

Sean falls silent. Surely anything more he has to say right now concerning his mother will have a similar reaction from TJ. No matter how hard he’s trying now to make him feel better. Words that are nothing but the truth. Always Sean will have a tinge of regret for bringing TJ to see his mother. Bringing TJ to see the woman who gave birth to him left them both with nothing but trouble and hurt.

So – for once – Sean listens. His gaze falling upon his full drink of wine. Staring it down for a good minute or so before taking a sip. Letting the liquid run down his throat just as the bartender brings over their takeout meal. A simple nod from the blond answers TJ.

The bartender comes back with their drinks and TJ nods a thank you before grabbing his half-empty glass and finishing it off in a single gulp so he could grab the other one that wasn’t watered down. He was drinking vodka. It wasn’t his favorite but it’s what he usually went for when he wanted to get drunk because both his mom and grandma had it laying around the house. Drinking vodka when he was down felt like home no matter where he was.

He sets the empty glass down with a little thud and grabs the new drink, taking a smaller sip this time. “Because I’m gay?” He asks, lowering his glass and looking at Sean. “Because I’m Republican? Or because I’m a homewrecker?”

Sean doesn’t reach for his drink when the bartender brings them over. Honestly? He’s not really feeling all that much up to drinking. Not to say he won’t finish it off. He will. The blond just needs to get in the right mindset to do so. And the conversation at hand is not exactly helping all that much. A soft sigh passes his lips when TJ goes over some reasons as to why Sean’s mom may not have warmed up to TJ.

“I want to discuss it now.” Maybe it was the alcohol taking over but TJ saw nothing wrong with having this conversation. It wasn’t like anyone knew who they were talking about. “Did she hate me on principle because I’m gay or was that just her reason for not liking me and I made her hate me?” There was no real reason why TJ wanted to know other than being curious about what else he fucked up in his life. 

A little hiccup-burp escaped his mouth and he raised his hand and mumbled an excuse me. “Was it my hair? Did she hate my hair?” He used Sean’s hair gel instead of his usual products.

25. You’re tempting me.

The two boyfriends could not have picked better seats at the movie theater if they tried. Being in the very back row with at least four rows between them and the next group of people. Of course Sean never really bothered to ask TJ why these seats were chosen compared to the others. In the back of his mind he just thought TJ preferred the back row seating. That’s it. However, it doesn’t take long for the blond to discover why. Not when the lights begin to dim when the previews come to an end and the movie begins playing. The blond swears he can feel a hand resting on his thigh, working upwards. A reaction that causes the other to grip at the arm rests of his chair, trying to provide himself with a little self-control. Failing miserably, however.

“One glass and we’ll take the food upstairs.” TJ repeats this to get Sean to relax. Drunk or not, he knows his boyfriend and he knows he’s probably freaking out about TJ being drunk and them being there, in public. TJ was volatile so the evening could go any which way with him in this state.

When the bartender comes around, TJ orders Sean a glass of Merlot and another vodka for himself, something he does not need at this point. While they wait, he turns to face Sean. “Did she like me at all?”

Fair enough. That’s something Sean can live with. One glass of wine and then have the rest of their dinner upstairs. Perhaps settle down and watch a movie together before it’s time to get some shut eye. Though it is getting fairly late. Hence the reason why the blond eventually agreed to the option to have dinner. If he would’ve said no, then there’s a good chance they wouldn’t have had anything until the morning hours.

“I ordered us food.” Which was why he hadn’t gone upstairs yet. He’d ordered them a couple of burgers and chicken wings since he had completely ruined their dinner plans with his shitty mood. “Have a glass of wine while we wait.” He’s still smiling. Drunk TJ is a feelsy TJ so even if they’re in public, he reaches over and places his hand over Sean’s thigh, rubbing it a bit and then giving it a squeeze. “Please?”

To Sean’s relief though, TJ is by himself. He is staring down at the half empty glass in front of him. Hearing Sean’s voice, he lifts his head, glancing at him and smiling. Another good sign is that he’s smiling when he sees his boyfriend. However, his eyes are red, bloodshot from too much alcohol too quickly. TJ managed to get drunk in an hour. Just like old times.

“Sit down.” He says to Sean, motioning towards the empty bar stool beside him. “Wine?”
