in all honesty, elijah wasn’t sure why he was doing this. it was a random thought that had stricken him and now here he was. on a street corner with his tortoise –well a tortoise, it wasn’t exactly his, but that was a different story altogether– strapped into a painting contraption of his own design on top of a canvas and a sign across elijah’s chest that read in big dodger blue letters ‘let a turtle draw your aura totally free of charge!!!’ and in smaller letters beneath it in parenthesis ’(donations and tips are welcome though, just sayin’). he didn’t need the money, hell didn’t even think people would give him any but so far Dmitri, the tortoise, was on his fifth painting and eli had made a few people happier that day along with for some reason fifteen bucks so all was right with the world. “step right up and have your day enhanced!” he yelled as he started to tap dance in place trying to grab the attention of someone. really he was having too much fun with whatever this was.
Sienna sat down at the table, holding her cup of coffee in her hands as she let her eyes rest on the area in front of her. Double days were starting to wear her out to the point where she was more than sure it would be possible for her to fall asleep right here and right now. She yawned slightly, lifting her arm up to cover up the yawn. She kept her gaze on the surface of the table until she heard someone clear their throat. “Hmm?” She lifted her eyes up towards the figure in front of them. “Sorry, the seat’s open if that’s what you were wondering.”

Cammy stood in front of her bar/lounge’s front door with her phone facing herself, having gone live on social media for a little bit. After having put out her greetings and a few shoutouts, she finished by saying into the camera, “I’ve gotta wrap it up for now but for anybody looking for something to do Friday night, The Hollyweird Hostel’s having 90′s night! Come dressed in your 90′s best any time that evening and get half off your first drink!” Giving a small pause, she grinned and added with growing enthusiasm, “And it’s also my birthday, so come throuuugh, lovely people!! Muwah!” She blew a kiss to the camera, winked and waved, and then ended the stream with a quick tilt up to the building’s moniker.
Once she was sure the video had successfully streamed online, she locked her phone and pocketed the device. “Okay, the word’s out and there’s a large liquor order coming tomorrow. Now all I need to do is figure out what I’m wearing on Friday.” Feigning despair on her face, she playfully cried, “Heeeeelp?”
Long days at work were never Luke’s favorite thing. Maybe if he had a job he actually liked, then it’d be worth it, but crunching numbers all day and making deals all in a stuffy suit just all around sucked. Making matters worse, he got off right around rush hour, so he had to sit his tired overgrown body in the car for an hour before finally making it home. After washing the day away in the shower and putting on some more comfortable clothes, Luke settled in to the couch and began to reply to some unanswered texts.
Luke: Sorry this reply is so late, I was at work. I just got home. Luke: How was your day?

“Oh shit!,” Cam blurted out as he felt his body collide against the person who seemed to come out of nowhere, taking him from a light jog to a screeching halt. The only way Cam could get a good run was leaving his neighborhood and heading to St.Johns, where he could run from Forest Park to Kelley Point. The trail between the two parks was usually empty at this time of day, so imagine his shock when he looked up from his phone too late to stop the collision that was already in motion. Pulling his air pods out while his music still blared, Cam cautiously approached the stranger. “Hey, you okay? I’m so sorry about that. Do you need any help?”

“Okay, so you DIDN’T hear it from me but I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who heard from their coworker who heard from a patron at Barista that the pretty barista with the long dark hair was lowkey flirting with this tall asian person with a rectangular shaped head. And I don’t know about you–but they’d be kinda cute together?”
Xio loved to start her day grabbing breakfast from a local food cart, and finding a market to peruse through. She spent so much time at work absorbed in her art, ignoring everything (and everyone) around her, that she liked to make sure she got some genuine human interactions. Portland was a city bursting with creativity and small businesses, and given the chance, Xio would always buy from a person she could look in the face, rather than some faceless CEO. An added bonus was the ability to get in quick gesture drawings, location studies, or just atmospheric sketches. It used to be awkward when people would catch her drawing them, but years of practice afforded her confidence. Plus, she could always turn it onto a compliment, stroke an ego, and offer the sketch the disgruntled person in question. This morning Xio spent some extra time drawing, moving past just basic sketches to more fleshed out drawings, doing her best to capture the essence of the people who were moving all about her on their own paths. She stopped to roll her neck and noticed her drawing had caught someones attention. “See something you like?” She asked, tilting the sketchbook page their way.

“Okay, as much as I love sushi, dim sum and Mongolian barbecue… this falafel plate is amazing! Want a bite?” Cammy offered, holding a forkful of basmati rice and some falafel while seated on her couch.

Always the sweet talker, CJ had wormed her way into the hearts of the family that owned Chez Machin, giving her free reign of the creperie. That wasn’t to say Claire clowned around during work hours, but simply meant she was able to boss around the teenage boys as the managerial entity when the bosses weren’t around. Today, she had them cleaning the outside patio, with her favorite co-worker helping up front while she folded crepes in the kitchen.
Tinkling around with the different fillings, the light brown texture of this one indicating that it was most likely coffee, she’s beginning to feel at ease with her new-found skill. She couldn’t count the amount of crepes she’d decimated when she first began. With only a few customers currently seated, she personally hand-delivered the last of the orders, stopping in her tracks when she noted a familiar face coming through the door.
“Yo!” she smiled, wiping her hands on her apron and welcoming them in. “What can I get you? It’s on the house. Just not the wines — those come outta my paycheck,” she half-joked.

Yaena does not belong here, she’s fully aware of the fact: she can’t find a way neither to blend in with the locals, nor to become more sociable– earn their trust, let them get to know her better; this is a rather small (compared to New York) particularly… peculiar city, (understatement of the century), an even more peculiar, rather… strange, neighborhood, compared to elite, rather inaccessible Lake Oswego — the kind where everyone knows each other, and she, a stranger, in every sense of the word: detached and aloof, she’s always just out of reach, unapproachable, uninterested in either any gossip or the local news, always by herself, unassuming, shrouded in mystery. Holed up in her secluded, half a century old villa near the woods, away from the life from the city, she spends her days working from home and renovating her kitchen and gardens, or going on the occasional walk with her dog– an enormous, old Irish wolfhound that trails after her like a cat– her nights, staring at the moon in a vintage peignoir, listening to les Baxter and debating whether or not to disappear and move to Nepal. She does not mean to come off as standoffish, or, a snob; it’s just the way in which she’s always presented herself, pristine, poised, elegant– a languid, haughty quality in the way she interacts with people around her, ever quiet, enigmatic, mysterious– it is no surprise, then, that she’s attracting quite the attention today, either, as she leisurely strolls down the hiking trails of Champoeg State in her silk skirt and vintage crop top, Versace shades perched atop her messy, loose curls cascading down her slender back, vintage, thrifted Louis Vuitton handbag draped over her bare shoulder. Mister is towering over her petite frame as she urges him to follow her toward the sea– they’re quite the sight, she, the mystery girl from the big city– in her designer outfit and All Stars– and the giant dog at her side– ; there are people all around them, enjoying the cool breeze coming off the lake and the fields beyond the woods, lavender and lilac, the late evening sun, all red and gold and purple, streaming over them as it sets, and she’s about to make her way toward the little stairs near a pond to rest for a while and give Mister a few treats for being such a nice, obedient boy throughout their walk, when Mister unexpectedly tugs at his leash and makes to excitedly run off toward the person nearest the pond, and she’s taken aback, gasping as he more or less drags her along; rosy cheeked and flustered, she’s hastily grabbing at his leash and trying to pull him back toward her gently, trilling a shocked little “Mister– no!!” as she struggles to reign him in a bit, fearing for the worse— she’s breathless by the time she manages to calm her dog down a little, her blue eyes, bright and liquid with sunlight; her mouth is stained red, cherries and rouge lipstick (her own brand, of course). “Apologies!!” she’s offering elegantly, a detached tone in the husky quality of her voice, “I don’t know what’s gotten into him, he’s normally not like… This.”
“Shit.” Xander mumbled to himself as he was looking through the pockets of his basketball shorts for his air pods. He could have sworn he put them there because he never jogged without them. Running was a favorite activity for Xander, but he hated silence. So he ran while his work out playlist would play in his ear. He would be in the zone. But obviously that wasn’t going to happen today. He contemplated retracing his steps to see if he dropped them. “Why me?” He said a little louder as he began his search for his air pods.

TJ wasn’t much of a coffee drinker. Sure, he started a lot of his mornings off with a coffee, but the man wasn’t addicted to the stuff in a sense that he needed it every single day. Today, however, the hot beverage had been desperately needed. He’d waited aside for his drink to be made, totally zoning out for a moment. He only snapped back into reality when the take away cup was set down, going over to grab it. It wasn’t until he was about to step outside that he noticed someone else’s name on the cup, meaning he’d taken someone else’s drink. An easy mistake for a guy who had been up all night struggling to get his teething nine month old daughter to sleep. “Shit…” he muttered under his breath, turning around and scanning his eyes over the room. There were only a few people waiting around for their orders, so TJ approached the person closest to him first. “I’m sorry— I’ve grabbed the wrong drink— is this yours by any chance?” he asked, turning the cup around so that the name of the person was clearly visible to the other.

Waking up with a start Rory looked around herself in confusion, the swirling in her vision meaning she couldn’t exactly pinpoint where she was. Okay she was laying down that much she knew, but how did she actually get here? The two options being that she was simply still in a sleep haze and it would all come flooding back in a second, or she’d engaged in something that involved a substance that had wiped her memory. “What the fuck…” She growled with a scratchy throat, coughing to try and clear it as she looked around for someone else, anyone.
While her house was on the final stage of the rebuilding, Mirela imagined that spending her birthday and some time with her family would be nice. She felt comfortable enough to tell her family the big news of her pregnancy, but she never expected the tension that would follow it. She wasn’t blind, she saw her family didn’t take the news as great as she hoped. Now her clothes were getting a little tighter already, which only increased her stress, and she knew this wasn’t good her, nor the baby. She had so much going on, and really no one to share this responsability with that when she was dealing with picking the cushions for the new living room, she felt hopeless, unable to make a decision. She wasn’t her usual self, her bubbly smile didn’t come easy, no matter how hard she tried “I don’t know… Maybe the one with stripes, or the one with the crochet. What do you think?”
