“I’m not, like, so sure Starfire would be cool with that?”

                        She collected the divine powers                           and GRASPED them in her hand. 

                         With the good divine powers,                          she went on her way.

    “Well,” Cam twirled the ends of Art’s ponytail around his finger. “You certainly kept me, huh?”

                                                                     FAMILY.

Lorena has family on the surface - somewhere, anyway. as far as she knows, her parents are dead, killed in the quake that sunk downtown San Diego into the Pacific. Her mom was an only child whose parents passed when Lorena was little. Her dad’s mom is alive in Jalisco. 

She doesn’t know her grandmother very well, but she misses her every day. When you lose your parents as suddenly as she did and all you have left are strangers and faraway relatives, you’ll cling to the idea of any kind of maternal comfort. 

Her aunts and uncles are everywhere. Oxnard, Yorba Linda, Baja, Hawai’i. She hasn’t heard from any of them since she went under and doesn’t know if any of them are aware she’s alive. She hopes they’ve seen her on TV somewhere and know she’s alive. 

                                          PHANTASMAGORIA.

like a flower, Kory withers, then dies, when she goes through long withdrawal from UV radiation. 

she can go up to three days without sunlight, when in dim lighting. if she is cut off from sunlight altogether, she may last 48 hours.

the symptoms are as follows: in the first few hours she begins to weaken and tire, her skin becomes dull with lack of sunlight, her eyes lose their luster and their glow dims. she becomes irritable and tires even more. a day to two days in to complete UV radiation withdrawal, Kory begins to experience a series of hallucinations. these hallucinations include the living, the dead, and those she has never met, as her mind attempts to rouse her body out of the deep, sleeping death she is sinking into.     She brushed a wave of hair out of his face with her soft fingertips and smiled down at him. Curled up like this, in the middle of her airy apartment, was the simplest of pleasures she could imagine. The comfort of his arms, his look, his touch, it was all she desired at the end of the day. 

    She cradled his jaw in her hand and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. 

    “You were the first person on Earth to make me feel alive,” she ran a thumb over the edge of his jaw. “I can only return the favor.”

    When she had come to Earth, she had left her hardships behind her. They existed on another planet, in another star system. She let them melt from her when the yellow sun’s rays drifted over her on the first morning free of the Gordanians.

    She was free. 

    Roy couldn’t leave, though. Couldn’t leave his hardships behind. Couldn’t leave his past and start fresh. She didn’t envy it. At every turn, he would be reminded of mistakes or disappointments. 

    Sometimes she thought humans were unlucky--no flight of their own and no way to get away from the blue planet she had grown to love so much. The blue planet wasn’t the problem, though, it was their system. The way things were set up against its citizens. No support for anyone who wasn’t lucky. 

    But Roy chose to be happy. Chose to build himself up. 

    “Nothing makes me happier than hearing that, Roy.” She realized that she had been staring at him in quiet contemplation and reached out to hold his hand. 

    Mar’i sucked on her bottom lip, trying not to let any tears trip over the edge of her lower lids. 

    She always knew Alura was trying. That she was trying her best. They were both healing all the time. 

    She knew that. 

    But it didn’t make it any easier when they hurt each other. When Mar’i’s hot head got the better of her and she hurt Lura, or Lura hurt her, there was always a moment when they stopped, realized what they were doing. 

    She tried being her mother by letting softness guide her. By letting kindness guide her in place of anger. 

    “I know.” The salt of her tears trickled over her bottom lip. “I’m sorry, Lura, I know you are.”

    “Y-you...you want me to stay?” 

    They’d been fighting for weeks. Tora staying silent, him trying not to explode, trying to learn from their past. He didn’t want to fuck it up like he had before. Because he’d fucked it up and then she’d died and then she was gone forever and there was no way to say sorry. No way to take it all back. No way to tell her he had learned, that he wasn’t an asshole (mostly) anymore. 

    That he had changed. That they had both changed. 

    “I mean--of course ya want me to stay.” He grinned his stupid shit eating grin. Back on top of the world. “Why wouldn’t you?”
