cam would have laughed if he didn't hurt so much, still a wheeze of a chuckle slips out, before his whole body contracts in pain. it was just easier to avoid the peskiness of emotions if he didn't have to face them  “ well we learned not to do that, didn't we? ”

even to his own ears the words were labored. if he could just get through the pain and limp back to the current isa base rest, they were in the clear as far as he was concerened. nothing felt broken, just sore. but everything felt sore, and it wasn't like they could ice an ice guy for his injuries. “ remind me not to get myself thrown into a windshield in the future, huh? ”

“ i—” his immediate urge was to say of course he would always come back stopped in his throat when he remembered what he'd went through that day. he hadn't meant to get drawn into business that wasn't isa business, but it had just happened, and he'd lived. but... there was always the chance that he might not have, he wouldn't, and cam was suddenly aware of how cold the apartment feels.  “ sorry, t, 's work i didn't expect to do... ”

the statement feels heavy, he hadn't meant it to come out that way, but he didn't want to sound flippant either. nothing felt like it was going how he'd planned and he was just... so tired. “ god i'm glad to be home, though, babe. ”
