(why yes i HAVE been gone for weeks after promising to make an effort here only to show up long enough to post a really badly drawn meme and vanish again for who knows how long thank you for noticing)
(okay let me preface this with the fact that i CANNOT draw to save my life but after watching these friggin nerds this morning, i had to. oh and this one gets an honorable mention. just because.)
ancient jedi temples - specially those not yet marked on maps - were not unheard of. the legacy of the jedi spanned thousands of years and was shaped by more hands than memory could fit, each master - and era - different from the one which preceded it. when the council is informed of a possible temple left to time and ever-growing vines, it's not quite the surprise many may think, but it is still important to investigate and take note of.
the building is on somewhat of a desert planet - the forests the holos described were long gone, giving way to near-blue sands that spanned for miles and miles. without the lush vegetation to conceal its location, the space of this theoretical jedi temple stood out like a sore thumb, lodged between a bowl created by a mountain rage surrounding the well-preserved ruins.
it took qui-gon - the one assigned for this mission - half a day to make his way down the hill and into the temple. nearly immediately, he took notice of a symbol drawn into the ground. recent, it appeared - the grains were still in position, rather than having been blown away by the occasional breeze. the same image could be found throughout the various halls of the building, all leading to the courtyards outside - and, in their expanded reach, the faint presence of another.
the master doesn't reveal himself, not yet. instead, he reaches out with the force to make the first contact, hoping to learn something about the second visitor by doing so - if they're force sensitive, they may be another jedi hoping to retrieve relics of their shared past.
She doesn't notice him. Not at first. She's too wrapped up in the frustration of her situation to even pick up on the sound of footfalls (if indeed there had been any). There's no sense of being watched from a distance, which is no surprise as there's several dozen standing stone walls that come between them, but still. Had she known how long he'd been following her little trail of marked passages, she might have been embarrassed at least a bit more.
The pull of the Force, however, she does feel. It's like a gentle hand draping itself over her shoulder. It's an unfamiliar Force signature, something warm and curious, and she stops in her tracks at the sensation of it. She wheels around on her heels, expecting to find herself staring down some ancient Temple Guard, ready to defend the inner sanctum's secrets with what remained of its life force. Instead, she finds she's still alone in this little section of the courtyard. With a breath, she relaxes her hands and retucks her traveling cloak around her, no longer requiring easy access to her lightsaber.
That is, so long as this stranger remained at a distance.
She closed her eyes, fighting with her inner voice (the one that sounded an awful lot like Xanatos) over what she ought to do. Reaching back out with the Force would almost certainly give her position away to this stranger and for all she knew, they were an immediate threat. On the other hand, not returning the gesture might lead to further complications later on if she ever did run into this stranger face-to-face (which seemed almost inevitable now). Too many possibilities, she thought, too many angles this interaction could take. Minimize the risks, Xanatos told her, and always have an exit.
Drawing a breath, she calms her mind and reaches back out. It's a friendly sensation she settles on when deciding what to send back. Not unguarded, not completely open, but friendly. Cautious, tentative warmth. A "don't open fire the moment we cross paths, please, I come in peace" so to speak. Her former Master had never really said just how much she was able to express through the Force, whether it was just vague impressions of sensation or actual full sensations of meaning. (After all, he'd never been fully open to her whenever they'd connected with the Force but that was another matter.) So, rather than assume and return too little to make sense of, she banked on the latter and hoped for the best.
In another universe, you chose me.

It wasn't often Nil-Rae got the chance to leave Telos IV on assignments like these anymore. Since becoming Governess and Xanatos's consort, there simply hadn't been time. Between her introduction into proper Telosian society, galas celebrating her new, elevated position, and being bogged down with official duties when Xanatos was gone or unavailable, she'd been swamped with things that needed doing or preparing for. So when her former Master had come to her with a set of coordinates, a (n embarrassingly short) mission briefing, and a holo representation of the object he'd heard rumors about, she'd all but jumped at the chance to go.
She loved Telos, make no mistake about that, but she'd spent her formative years exploring the jungles of her home planet, delving into supposedly ancient crypts and temples in search of something noteworthy. And that said nothing of her Padawan years, when she and Xanatos would make camp, spending the night on a new planet every other cycle in their search for ancient Jedi (and the occasional Sith) temples and artifacts. All the glamour of being Governess was... wonderful, really, but it wasn't home. It's wasn't what she was used to. It wasn't this.
Of course, she might be more inclined to gratitude for that last fact now that she was lost. Hopelessly so if the fact that her navigator was whirring with nonsensical gibberish across its small screen had anything to say about it. And of course, it was just perfect timing that she should find herself so very out of sorts now, when she'd only just stepped into the labyrinthine courtyard of whatever this place had been in the past. The passage twisted and turned, leading her from dead end to dead end. She had tried marking her way forward, to keep track of which passages she'd taken and which had been fruitless efforts, but either this place was twisting with her, changing whenever she passed a certain point, or it was much, much larger than she anticipated.
Either way, she was in trouble.
Adjusting the shoulder strap of her pack, she huffed quietly at herself, at her situation, at the useless nav in her hands. She pulled her pack off one shoulder, slid it around to her front, and slipped the navigator into its pocket before reshouldering everything. With a nod, she took the small stick of ground and compacted calcium and drew the mark she'd been using to mean "you went forward here." Following that very path forward, she began the next leg of her exploration of these ruins, curious what the next turn might reveal.
(for @selfphagy 's wonderful qui-gon!)
{I am being threatened at gun point sorely tempted into coming back but I don't know if I want to start a new blog to start fresh, keeping a smaller roster-- possibly only one-- of characters, or just dive right back in here and pretend I haven't been gone for... over a year?}
(*giggling like a school girl; twirling hair around a finger; definitely NOT hiding an impressive-looking firearm behind her back* I'm so glad we're on the same page!!)

(I keep meaning to mention something here because it's important but then I forget because I'm dumb. I did something to hurt my right arm recently and it makes it so I can't sit at my computer for more than 20-30 minutes without it hurting pretty badly. As such, my low-activity is becoming non-activity until we figure out what's up with my arm and how to fix it.)

Only a Flesh Wound starters
"I'm fine, just a scratch." "It's just a flesh wound, nothing serious." "Don't worry about me, I can still keep going." "I've had worse. This is nothing." "I don't have time to deal with this right now." "It'll take more than that to stop me." "I can handle the pain. Just help me patch it up quickly." "I'll be back on my feet in no time." "Ignore the blood, it's just a graze." "This won't slow me down." "I've got work to do, so let's wrap this up." "No need to panic, it's just a bullet wound." "I can't let this stop me from finishing what I started." "I'm tougher than I look." "This is nothing compared to what I've been through." "Save the sympathy. I'll be fine." "Just focus on the mission. I'll deal with this later." "Keep moving, we can't afford to stop." "I refuse to be taken out by something like this." "I'll rest when the job is done."

(I'm a little biased because this is a video by a friend of mine but I really feel like this sums up how I feel about the Acolyte so far and why it's just making me dig my feet in the sand about the Jedi way not being the end-all, be-all "good" in the Galaxy and why I write Nil-Rae as a Light-side user who is not a Jedi by any stretch of the imagination.)
(Closed starter for @endlss-voiid)
It wasn't often Nil-Rae reached out with the Force and felt something quite this... off-putting somewhere in the distance. She couldn't tell what exactly she felt other than the fact that it felt dangerous. With a war raging in the stars overhead, she'd come to be a bit more uncertain about strangers, even those with a neutral Force-signature. But this? This put the hairs on her arms standing straight and made her stomach drop to her feet.
Gathering her lightsaber and a satchel of supplies, she set off in search of the source. She couldn't be certain what she would find or how long it eventually took her, but she found herself face to face with a dark-clad stranger who looked... lost. Not simply out of place but well and truly lost. He had no immediate tell for who or what he was and she didn't recognize him from any of the reports of Separatists in the area but still. That aura gave her pause. Arms folded across her chest, she stepped intentionally on a tree branch to announce her presence and waited for the stranger to turn in her direction.
"What brings you to my neck of the woods, friend?"

Regulus was used to the activity known as conversation. It was a human thing making human sounds and words. There was no telepathic messages or anything. Regulus was dressed nicely too. Should he explain his mission? Maybe hints about it? The Cervid fiddling his fingers, and he frowned. " I am here because of a mission. I am Regulus, Prince Regulus of the Cervid homeworld, it is nice to meet.. you." He said. Why was it hard for him to speak? Human sounds should be easier now. Regulus just felt so strange. He did not know why. He looked at his watch. His eyes widen. " Wait.." Regulus mumbled. The dark haired royal did not want to do it, but he had to. Reg headed behind a tree.
Nil-Rae canted her head to one side in curiosity, feeling surprised to be in the company of royalty so unexpectedly. The stranger was unaccompanied and further out from port than perhaps he realized. If he'd found his way to the village where she'd grown up, somewhere fairly unimportant in the grandest scheme, she had to wonder if he was lost. Still, he didn't seem a threat, even if he did seem a little strange.
She offered a smile and bowed her head reflexively. "My name is Nil-Rae and you are welcome here, Prince Regulus of the Cervid home-world. I am sorry if we're not equipped to receive someone of your standing but we weren't expecting a royal visit." A slight frown creased her brows as he excused himself. "Is... everything alright?"

love changes you!
should the time have suddenly come to an undetermined pause, the scene opening before destiny's eyes would've made quite a beautiful picture in all its ordinariness; new acquaintances sharing a 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, as tender and soft as a feather, a breath drawn on the verge of something that'd eventually bloom and make foundations for mutual fondness. there was something unusual in the air for sure, padmé could tell — she too had temporarily welcomed a sense of perplexity with all her attention directed at a single thing, a person, instead of focusing on what she'd originally been doing or trying to gain by taking a different route towards her office space, than usual. a soft hum of amusement rolled from rosy lips as the senator offered a firm nod, ❝ yes, miss. i can take you there. ❞ anyone could easily get lost in these vast halls and endless corridors without guidance, not forgetting the security personnel who wouldn't always be in the mood for treating lost souls with patience and kindness. they had their hands full of work, understandably so. padmé knew she'd have some time before the next meeting, so offering some help for this kind being wouldn't be an unwelcome change in her schedule.
gesturing towards the right direction with her hand, padmé begun taking steps towards the archive wing that was indeed open for the public, especially if escorted by a face that was familiar to the most. the mention of umbara made a frown reach her brow, for the tales revolving around its grounds that lacked the grace of 𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 surely weren't anywhere near uplifting. a final resting place for dreams, one could say. ❝ i'm afraid you won't find anything that would lift your spirits ❞, she mused, ❝ or are darkened parts of the galaxy your specialty by a chance ? ❞ no. she must belong to the light.
Relief loosened the muscles in Nil-Rae's shoulders and she smiled, truly grateful for the turn of fate that had brought her in Padme's path. "Thank you. I'm not sure I'd have found the way on my own and mingling with strangers is... not my strongest suit." Her nose wrinkled briefly at being addressed as 'miss,' though. "Please, my name is Nil-Rae. You've been much too kind to me to need to refer to me so formally. If it's not too forward to say so, you seem like the type who could stand a break from formality from time to time."
Following the other's lead, she allowed her steps to fall in line with Padme's own. Blue eyes darted this way and that as they walked, taking in the opulent sight of the building they traversed. As governess, she was accustomed to finery but this place was certainly something to write home about. Tailored to be welcoming to a thousand cultures and ways of life, it teemed with a sense of purpose and class that she was certain few places could achieve as effortlessly. A soft laugh escaped the brunette at Padme's implication and she shook her head.
"I wouldn't say they're a specialty, no, but needs must in this case. My... partner," it still felt strange referring to her former Master by such a title but it was true in any sense of the term, "wishes to foster a working relationship with some of the mining operations there and I'd like to go in knowing as much as I can about current affairs and recent history. I'd hate to embarrass him by saying the wrong thing or being unprepared for any contingencies."
