I have batshit headcannons about them. She can only live via the dark, disintegrating in the light. The dark world distorts her into the Knight, and in the light she is a shambling husk. Maybe Asriel was the one to resurrect her in the first place out of love or to try and uphold the prophecy that he was given or something. I feel like the two were doing dark world stuff just like the fun gang, but something went wrong. Their prophecy could not be fulfilled any longer and the roaring could only be delayed by a few years. I wonder if Ralsei acts the way he does because he was created manually or something golem-style by azzy to be a guide for kris and their friends when they'd inevitably have to follow in azzy's footsteps to finish what he couldn't. I wonder if the grief or frustration that he felt from dess's condition was put into ralsei, and that's why ralsei values himself so lowly. I don't have a concrete idea, I have to finish the rest of chapter 4 and think on it.
