Darren is a demon, and 3 of the 7 deadly sins. He was created by Antonio, the devil for Earth. He grew up being abused, murdered, reconfigured, and overworked. Antonio created 3 immortal beings to represent the 7 deadly sins, after his brother created 7 angels to be the 7 Heavenly Virtures. He was too lazy to make 7 so he made 3, and Darren having 3 of the sins made him the groups leader. He's wrath, pride, and greed. He was made first, then it was his commerades Diana and Davis. When he was created, Antonio made sure he knew that 1. Antonio wasn't his father, only his creator. 2. That Darren was only a tool for Antonio's inevitable war with his brother. Lastly at number 3. Antonio told Darren that if he ever went against him, that Antonio would rip Darren's soul out, which could kill him permanently. Darren grew up emotionally stunted, with much room for apathy to seep into his heart. He never loved anyone, for he simply didn't feel emotions. When he does feel an emotion, it's feels forced, unnatural. As he gets older, and the world changes around him, he stumbles into a dysfunctional found family trope with the personified embodiments of Life and Death. They take him in on certian occasions, help him recover after Antonio wears him down, heal his wounds, and treat him like a being who deserves love for once in his life. He then goes on a trip to a planet that would have been Earth if not for Antonio's need for destruction, chaos, and pain. He meets an abused child named Masilous (Ma-see-lee-ous) He treats him how his "father's" treated him, and he learns to love (platonically) for the first time ever. He loves him like he's his son or brother. However, a war started breaking out due to Antonio and his brother, Gene. Masilious was forced by his parents and their towns leader to train in harsh weather conditions to prepare for the war. Masilious got horribly sick due to training in that poor weather, along with his lack of proper nutrition. Being verbally abused/neglected didn't help him. He was overworked, berated, and left to die with no one to help him. Darren found out, and in a panic, left their world to get something of a cure all. He promised Masilious he would be back and that he would live. Sadly, Masilious succumbs to his illness. His parents didn't even grieve. They left him in his bed to die. Darren returned with his cure, only to find out his only friend, someone he concidered a son, had died. Darren went ballistic. He murdered everyone in the village, and then he decided to change the land into a forest. With the help of Life, he gave Masilious's home a new purpose. Darren made sure there was a huge tree that formed in the middle. It would be Masilious's grave. Darren then locked himself away in a world of his own creation. No one can reach him without his permission or knowledge. It was a world of nothingness. He wanted to be alone, and to live out his new meaningless existence somewhere blank. That way he could never experience this type of hurt ever again.
The grim reaper who took Masilious's soul to Heaven is one of few with permission to enter Darrens world. It is only because Darren hoped that one day she would bring Masilious back to him somehow. Hundreds of thousands years go by, the newest version of Earth had just been made. The grim reaper, let's call her Ulyssa, comes to yell at Darren. She tells him that he's wasting pointless years of his life for nothing. That Masilious doesn't want him to stay in his world of despair forever. This snaps Darren out of it, he goes to visit Masilious in Heaven, even though Darren's a demon, and this could end up a suicide mission, he goes. They have a long conversation about moving forward. Then, Darren's skin starts to burn from Heavens protective magic. Masilious begs him to go, to visit new worlds, to live on for his sake, so he does. He goes to this new Earth and starts living his way.
Antonio sometimes pops in and giving him a sinful task to complete here and there just to fuck up his day. Eventually he meets a woman named Mira around the 1900s. Shes an average witch with a dark past. They become very close, good friends; a few years later they get married, and settle down into a domestic hell with one another. They were truly only compatible as friends. Once they moved into their new home after thier wedding, they both showed how truly horrible partners they really were. Both were shocked at the truth behind the others violent, abusive, and horrid nature. They stayed together due to the laws around divorce being so strict and pricey. They lived in hell together for years. Mira stayed home when he was out working, and left the second he came home. Darren would mostly only yell, or scream, and sometimes threaten her if she got too physical. He vowed after he killed Masilious's village to never harm someone who didn't genuinely deserve it.
Neither one deserved the harsh words or violence that came with their marriage. He felt that his temper had to rival hers, as he never had anyone show him how to be gentle. He would go ballistic and verbally/emotionally hurt her in retaliation to her physical and manipulative abuse. They didn't know how to quit eachother. Both running back to eachother for emotionless sex as soon as one would crumble and "apologize". Once divorce was no longer an issue, they both filed for it. They were about 2 weeks away from never having to see the other again, when they had a big ass fight about their divorce. Mira suddenly wanted to get counseling for thier failed marriage, which led to an explosive argument. When Darren left, he got a few feet from their house before noticing he was being followed. Demons sent by Antonio had tried to corner him, but he was ready. Only to be transported to some weird pitch black box of a room. The room had 3 spaces, his space looked like a clear box with a metal box in the center. He was chained up in the metal box. The other 2 rooms had a bed, table, and a plant or a ball. The other 2 people who popped in were his old commerades that he had almost forgotten about (Diana and Davis.) They were being punished by Antonio for different reasons. Darren didn't know what his offense was until he got out of that liminal space. They were in there for about 10-20 years, they aren't sure as the concept of time isn't really a thing for immortals. All they knew is that one day, they were all just...set free. Davis was trying to break them out when all their surroundings cracked and dissappeared. Darren was released first, then Diana, lastly Davis. They were left in a dark space for a few seconds, then they appeared right back where they were taken from. A ringing in their head became coherent, and Antonio's fuck ass voice spoke. He told them they served their time, and now they could live out their lives until he needed them again.
Once Darren was released, he made little effort to look for his ex wife. She could have been long gone, or with someone new. He didn't really care to know or find out. He did get in contact with his old job, still run by his old boss (Emron). He got back into the swing of things pretty fast, and after a few months, he was back to his usual ways. Drinking, smoking, doing drugs, finding flings for the night once in a while, and partying when he wasn't taking out pedos, rapists, or drug/sex traffickers. So this is when the story gets all mushy. He made some friends with Xavier, a man who worked on the police force, and helped Darren avoid the police when the crimes he committed got too local. Xavier wanted to help show around a new guy to the town they were in (town is called Wintersville.) They met after the man reported a crime at Rialtos, which was the place he worked at. Someone threw their food at him, verbally assaulted him, then left without paying. That was about 6 months before this party. They kept in touch and became close friends, so Xavier told him he should meet Darren, his best friend. So they set it up at a bar called the Dark Sky, it was a cold day in September. They were going to meet up at night (think 1am), but plans changed and they had to meet up closer to late evening (think 9-10). Darren was the first to arrive, sipping away at a drink. Xavier was at the bus stop picking up his friend Max, the star of the night. When they got there, Darren noticed how bright he was, not physically, but he was so outwardly joyous and happy that he felt bright. When he first saw Max, all he could think was damn you're like an angel, bright, too happy, and too polite. Max met him with a soft handshake, and an all too happy go lucky smile. Darren, being his oh so wonderful self, wanted to see just how far he could push Max, until he learned Max has autism. He immediately calmed down his asshole nature from a 10 to a 5 until he got to know Max well enough. They talked all night, even when Xavier left, they went on like it was nothing. Darren felt that Max was faintly familiar to him, but he wasn't sure how or why. A few weeks go by, Max and Darren get quickly closer by the day.
Their relationship grew, Darren found Mira, his ex wife, a few months after he met Max, so its probably been a year atp. She told him about his kid, and how he needs to deal with her college shit now. Darren was like omfg no. Yeahhh now he's basically a girl dad with 2 boys. Katie and Darren get close and form a really healthy father daughter bond over time. Then Kris and Payton break into his house, and he decides to foster them instead of calling the cops on them. A few months after he gets them, he goes on a job that changes his life.
