âShe had never dreamed there could be so much pain in a life when there was nothing physically wrong. She hurt all the time.â
â Stephen King, The Shining (via books-n-quotes)
There is no argument, this scene is the best thing that infinity war has given us
boy oh boy do I love patterns.
solar system, yâall.
I think I can finally put into words why the actions of most of the heroes in Infinity War bothers me so much.
Itâs because they ring so very hollow.
There is a selfishness in the actions of so many of the heroes that is ⌠disappointing even if it is understandable on a certain level.
We have Vision, a being of logic and possessor of the Mind Stone itself, who despite everything thatâs happened decides that itâs perfectly fine to turn off his transponder and go dark to meet up with Wanda. Thereâs no consideration as to what could happen if he was/is needed and is unable to be reached.
Then we have Steve Rogers, Captain America himself, who says the words âwe donât trade livesâ after he was willing to trade numerous lives and relationships to help one man. (And Buckyâs innocence isnât in question here, what Steve was willing to do in order to hide the truth/protect him is) Steve who moved the battlefield to Wakanda in order to try and save Vision and, in turn, traded the lives of numerous Wakandans for a chance that, in the end, didnât even pan out. Steve who says âwe donât trade livesâ but obviously means âwe donât trade our livesâ. Steve who loses in the end anyways with Bucky crumbling away to dust despite everything and everyone he sacrificed on the alter of saving his oldest friend.
(And thatâs not even counting how Wakanda itself was portrayed in IW)
Thereâs Rhodey who shows us the depth of his heroism in Civil War by looking at his injuries, at all heâs sacrificed in the face of what he considered right and said âyes, this was worth it, my pain, my loss, was worth it because we did goodâ only to have that moment stolen from him by the narrative having him backtrack on his stance. Even if this can be chalked up to his worry over Tony disappearing there were other, better, ways to frame it. Ways that would have shown his worry and his fear and his willingness to work with whoever he had to in order to get his best friend back without re-framing his outlook on things.
And we have Wanda who despite railing against Starkâs selfishness and willingness to destroy for his own greed and ego cannot even entertain the idea of losing Vision no matter the losses others will surely pay. Wanda who rails about the death of her parents and the destruction of her home country but cannot fathom putting the rest of the universe first. Wanda who refuses to act until sheâs staring down the barrel of a gun named Thanos and then itâs too late.
Thereâs Peter Quill who promises Gamora one thing and then cannot deliver. He loves her and canât bear to hurt her and thatâs understandable. Itâs just unfortunate that in doing so he also invalidates her choices and leaves her to the one fate she never wished to face. Dying for Thanosâ goals, sacrificed by his twisted version of love.
Even Thor who chooses revenge over a direct kill. Who wastes an opportunity to take Thanos out in one blow in exchange for the chance to make him suffer.
Infinity War shows us the selfishness of so many of the heroes and then juxtaposes them against the unselfishness of the others.
Peter Parker who goes to space only because itâs the right thing to do. Because he wants to help, wants to be a hero and save people. Because he sees something going wrong and he canât not try and help.
Gamora who is willing to die to keep Thanos from reaching his goals but is murdered instead as a part of those goals. His twisted version of love validated in a way even as she protests it.
Tony Stark who sees his worst nightmare laid out in front of him and faces it head on. Who is willing and ready to die right then and there to keep the Time Stone out of Thanosâ reach.
Stephen Strange who has his sworn duty but sets it and his own life aside for a chance to settle Tony into the correct endgame.
And what happens to most of the unselfish heroes besides Tony?
They die.
Infinity War shows us heroism on the deepest levels and then it kills them for it.
Wow love. You dragged them all here. I never saw it that way, I love this post. It made think for a moment
Well shit !
I agree with everything but, in particular, your paragraph on Rhodey because I really canât fathom why he said what he said and how he presented and will ultimately chalk it up to bad decisions. It takes away the depth of his reasoning, of why he stood by Tony until the very end of Civil War, and thatâs justâŚreally unfortunate.
Steve who says âwe donât trade livesâ but obviously means âwe donât trade our livesâ.Â
this is true and you should say it

A collection of cute siblings â¤ď¸âď¸
Lin Manuel Miranda; Dwayne âThe Rockâ Johnson; Terry Crews; Fred Rogers
Taika Waititi: Powerfully creative, Knows himself, Good humored, Takes his work and his relationships with other people seriously, Intentional as a creator
John Mulaney: Publicly supportive of his wife and other women in his life, Crafts humor without taking cheap shots at people, Supportive friend, Willing to laugh at himself yet confident
Andy Samberg: Uses platform and humor to publicly call out toxic masculinity and white privilege, Self-aware, Willing to cede the floor to others, Good friend
Will Smith: Very intentional about what type of actions he takes as a husband and father (if you havenât watched him on The Red Table, you should), Good humored and professional, Dedicated to his craft putting in the hours and energy, Generous with his emotions and vulnerability, Responsive to others emotions and vulnerability
I read somewhere that one aspect of Toxic Masculinity is believing that being part of a âWeâ will erase the âIâ; that selfhood is threatened by relationships with other people. It reads then that Healthy Masculinity (indeed, healthy people in general) create a âWeâ that enhances the âIâ; that we can become more powerfully ourselves through relationships with other people.Â
All these men listed (and many more unlisted) live this type of energy, the one that builds connections without fear of losing the self - and in fact builds the self more with the building of connections.Â
This version of this post is important
i have not seen a single thor fan uspet about him gaining weightÂ
i have seen thor fans upset about the fact that thorâs weight gain and every other symptom of his immense depression and grief was played for laughs for the entire 3 hour movie when every other character was allowed to grieve and process on their own terms and with respect
can yâall stop acting like youâre fucking woke for defending chubby thorÂ
chubby thor is not the problem
the presentation of chubby thor as a laughing stock is
How Do Court Reporters Keep Straight Faces? These are from a book called Disorder in the Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while the exchanges were taking place. ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning? WITNESS: He said, âWhere am I, Cathy?â ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you? WITNESS: My name is Susan! _______________________________ ATTORNEY: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact? WITNESS: Gucci sweats and Reeboks. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you sexually active? WITNESS: No, I just lie there. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: What is your date of birth? WITNESS: July 18th. ATTORNEY: What year? WITNESS: Every year. _____________________________________ ATTORNEY: How old is your son, the one living with you? WITNESS: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I canât remember which. ATTORNEY: How long has he lived with you? WITNESS: Forty-five years. _________________________________ ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory? WITNESS: I forget.. ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot? ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isnât it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesnât know about it until the next morning? WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam? ____________________________________ ATTORNEY: The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he? WITNESS: Heâs 20, much like your IQ. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Were you present when your picture was taken? WITNESS: Are you shitting me? _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And what were you doing at that time? WITNESS: Getting laid ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: She had three children , right? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: How many were boys? WITNESS: None. ATTORNEY: Were there any girls? WITNESS: Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney? ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: How was your first marriage terminated? WITNESS: By death.. ATTORNEY: And by whose death was it terminated? WITNESS: Take a guess. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual? WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beard ATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female? WITNESS: Unless the Circus was in town Iâm going with male. _____________________________________ ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney? WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work. ______________________________________ ATTORNEY: Doctor , how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people? WITNESS: All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight. _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to? WITNESS: Oral⌠_________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 PM ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time? WITNESS: If not, he was by the time I finished. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? WITNESS: Are you qualified to ask that question? ______________________________________ And last: ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing? WITNESS: No.. ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor? WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

Why does being in your early 20s feel so much like only having 5 years of your life left in which you need to achieve as much as possible? why do I feel like I have an approaching deadline for success?
Itâs because weâve had nearly 30+ years of the âyoung geniusâ narrative where those people gave actually gone on to shape the world we know today. Instead of treating these people as truely outliers, theyâve become expectation. People are always looking for âthe next Gates, the next Zuckerberg, the next personâ whoâs going to make an insane amount of money discovering an unregulated resource and shaping it to their whim and shaping the culture around that thing.
Then on top of it weâve had numerous generations who were able to have everything on their adult checklist: House, spouse, kids, job security, career, car by 25.
However, due to entering an unstable economy, uncertain job market, but with technological advancements that afford more flexibility, and creativity for their lives compared to their parents, Millenials are going through another growing phase right after their college years. As many canât afford the adult check-list that their grandparents or parents did at their age. Millenials are taking their time because they literally cannot afford to buy a car, a house, find a spouse, have kids, while struggling to pay off massive debt while working for companies who either have no jobs or little loyalty to keep them for 30+ years like they kept their parents, when they can find someone âyounger, dumber, and cheaper to replace youâ (<- my baby boomer boss said this proudly to me).
However instead of sympathizing with the generations they helped cripple, Baby Boomers and Gen Xers who are still in power, sneer at Millenials and Gen Z for being vapid, selfish, lazy, frivolous, bucking the system, etc., because they still hold us to these old expectation. These ââback when I was your age I had x,y, and z/I got want have because I worked hardââ statements that show a failure to understand that most *are* working hard with a really shitty situation. While choosing to ignore that they helped cripple us, Baby Boomers/Gen Xers, havent realized that times have changed, and therefore cultural expectations should as well.
However there is light at the end of the tunnel: As expectations have failed to get with the times, you can exploit this. Just get through your 20s, and once youâre in your 30s, Boomers and GenXers will naturally assume you have your shit together and will leave you alone. Seriously, the moment I turned 30 it was like a huge pressure to preform was off of me. Suddenly the decisions I made were considered âboldâ and âliving my best lifeâ when in my 20s, those same decisions would have been met with derision from the 40+ crowd.
I absolutely hated my 20s due to this mentally that I needed to accomplish something significant/hit all these arbitrary milestones that donât make sense to me to stress over because they were frankly unattainable to me. Now in my 30s, itâs a lot easier to breathe.
So chin up, take your selfies, make your shit posts, stay out late, make your mistakes, take years to find your dream job,do those âextraneousâ hobbies, classes, whatever makes you happy.
You have so much time.
oh my god thank you so much?? this gave me much needed peace of mind right now. be my mentor lol
Going even further: my mom is an internationally renowned fiber artist and is asked by quilt and fiber guilds all over the world to come teach.  My parents are travelling internationally on her dime at least twice a year now. She has a book coming out, did a TV special and High Art Institutions like the Denver Art Museum are starting to court her for exhibits.
She must have been doing this forever right?
She started quilting at 50 and only started the body of work thatâs got her in demand at 65.
Not only do you have a long time for you to work things out, if you find somethign you enjoy, youâve got AGES to develop it, if thatâs something you want to do.
Statistically, most of the millenial generation is going to make it to 100. You think lifeâs over when youâve completed less than a third of it? Stay hydrated, eat well and hustle- youâre in it for the long haul and itâs gonna be AWESOME.
