        glances  to  the  side  when  he  hears  the  voice,  glancing  around  for  a  second  before  mouth  quirked  up.  "  why  are  you  hiding  behind  a  pole  ?  "  brad  asks,  finding  it  amusing  enough  that  he  doesn't  continue  on  his  way.  "  it  seems  like  it'd  be  more  fun  to  get  their  attention  over  here,  "  begins  though  he  couldn't  think  of  anything  else  worse  at  the  moment.  stomach  growling,  heading  for  a  bite  to  eat  before  going  to  a  chemistry  test  and  the  paps  seeing  both  of  them  would  be  a  disaster  at  a  level  he  didn't  want  to  deal  with.  "  you  owe  me  a  burger  and  some  fries.  "      

       "it's  called  a  pillar,"  river  corrected  with  amusement  coloring  his  tone,  "and  i  thought  the  reason  was  obvious."  something  he'd  only  let  out  in  one  interview  in  the  past,  maybe  it  was  gq,  that  he  had  a  secret  love  for  architecture.  so,  if  brad  pressed  or  wanted  to  debate  the  whole  tomato/tomato  river  was  ready  for  it.  his  large  hand  rubbed  at  his  jaw  as  he  blew  a  bit  of  playful  frustration  out  of  his  nose  at  the  other's  antics.  "if  you  do  that,"  the  easy  threat  began,  "i'll  absolutely  feed  you  to  them  and  walk  away  unscathed."  but  thankfully  brad  seemed  to  come  to  his  senses  and  river  wouldn't  have  to  resort  to  such  measures.  "good  decision,  but  also  if  you  pick  a  place  i  don't  like  i  reserve  the  right  to  veto  it  until  you  get  it  right."  mostly  teasing,  taking  the  piss,  he  smirked.

spoon  popped  between  glossed  lips  as  she  listened  to  the  click  of  heels  echoing  throughout  the  car  park,  though  the  cup  of  pistachio  gelato  was  nearly  dropped  as  attention  snapped  to  the  owner  of  the  voice.  “  oh  my  gosh  ,  you  scared  me  !  ”  rosa  never  had  been  the  most  spatially  aware  if  her  reaction  to  another  person  was  of  any  indication.  while  her  heart  settled  from  where  it  had  launched  into  her  throat,  dark  hues  drifted  to  the  cluster  of  vultures  with  their  cameras  before  finding  their  way  back  to  the  blonde.  “  i  have  time  to  spare  ,  just  don't  ask  to  share  my  gelato.  ”  a  playful  note  finding  home  in  her  voice.  she  had  a  terrible  time  saying  no. 

       a  laugh  was  the  first  thing  to  come  out  of  him  in  response,  but  a  hand  instinctively  shot  out  in  the  chance  he'd  need  to  catch  something,  or  the  woman  herself,  from  falling.  "sorry,  sorry,"  his  low  timbre  soothed  between  chuckles,  "i  thought  you  saw  me.  my  bad.  i  hadn't  noticed  you  were  fully  entranced  by  that...  ice  cream."  it  seemed  rather  cold  to  be  walking  around  outside  with  the  sweet  treat  but  river  wasn't  truly  judging,  just  surprised.  hand  rose  signaling  the  white  flag,  he  wasn't  after  her  gelato.  "i  suppose  that  all  depends  on  what  flavor  it  is..."  a  wink,  only  playing  with  her.  "it  doesn't  look  like  one  of  my  usuals  so  i  think  it's  fair  to  say  you're  safe.  also...  thank  you."  for  staying,  for  keeping  a  lookout  and  wasting  a  bit  of  her  time  to  do  him  a  favor.

“   sure   ,   ”   male   shrugs   ,   hands   shoved   into   pockets   as   his   pace   stalled   .   he   was   in   no   rush   after   all   ,   letting   the   quiet   of   the   night   slowly   bring   things   to   a   sense   of   calm   .   “   but   don't   worry   about   it   ,   i   don't   need   anything   in   return   ,   unless   you've   got   a   spare   cigarette   ?   ”

       "i  appreciate  it,  thank  you."  it  wasn't  an  act.  river's  good  nature  wasn't  some  façade  he  kept  up  in  order  to  keep  himself  in  the  good  graces  of  the  public's  opinion  and  therefore  the  roles  continue  to  come  his  way.  it  was  just  his  way  and  who  he  was.  "sure,  i  can  spare  one.  my  lighter's  almost  out  though  so  you  might  have  to  give  it  a  few  tries."  the  pack  and  lighter  were  handed  over  together.

“   oh   um   ,   not   that   long   ago   ?   ”   cheeks   are   tinted   with   a   rosy   hue   .   never   one   to   want   to   harp   too   long   on   her   personal   life   ,   piper   does   her   best   to   shrug   off   the   lingering   attention   .   “   and   yeah   …   i   mean   ….   definitely   better   than   my   stint   being   unemployed   ,   ”   the   word   stings   .   ‘   unemployed   ‘   was   a   stretch   to   begin   with   .   “   i’m   really   just   going   in   and   helping   reset   the   restaurant   .   bring   it   to   its   former   glory   .   no   big   deal   …   what   about   you   though   ?   what   have   you   been   up   to   ?   ”

       "that  is  a  big  deal,  though,  and  i'm  so  happy  for  you."  always  keener  than  she  let  on,  ferah  pulled  back  from  the  embrace  she  initiated  quicker  than  usual  when  feeling  the  apprehension  in  piper.  "what  does  resetting  the  restaurant  mean?  whole  new  staff,  interior  design  makeover,  or  new  chef  and  menu?"  curiosity  always  bloomed  when  it  came  to  things  like  this  because  in  another  life  she  might've  been  a  restauranteur.  "oh,  you  know,"  a  casual  wave  off,  "i've  just  been  so  busy.  i've  got  a  few  campaigns  i'm  currently  working  on  and,  well,  my  family  is  in  town  overseeing  the  build  of  their  first  american  hotel."

once  she  hears  the  mention  of  the  bee,  mila  jumped  just  a  little  in  her  place.  she  was  never  the  biggest  fan  of  insects,  especially  if  she  wasn't  aware  of  their  presence  near  her.  “  thank  god  you  directed  it  in  a  different  way,  then.  ”  tone  as  soft  as  can  be  as  mila  offers  the  male  a  smile.  she  definitely  recognized  his  face,  but  the  ballerina  was  rather  horrible  with  names.  perhaps  it  was  because  she  grew  up  in  the  public's  eye,  or  because  she  just  simply  couldn't  be  bothered.  “  i  owe  you.  it's  gone  now,  right  ?  ”  she  asked,  looking  for  the  reassurance  so  she  won't  have  to  leave  the  post  when  she  just  got  there. 

       "i  think  so."  though  river  smiled  there  wasn't  a  full  confirmation  in  his  tone.  "if  it  likes  your  perfume  it  might  come  back  so  just  stay  aware  if  you're  allergic  or  anything.  otherwise  it'll  hover  but  likely  wouldn't  bother  you  much."  the  stings  did  hurt  pretty  good  but  since  they  died  with  that  sort  of  act  they  rarely  went  on  attack  unless  truly  threatened.  "nah,  you  don't  owe  me.  i  figured  avoiding  possible  medical  emergencies  to  be  a  humanitarian  act."  that  smile  of  his  broadened  a  bit.  his  blue  eyes  caught  the  recognition,  he  was  too  used  to  it  to  miss  it,  but  was  glad  she  hadn't  said  anything.  "or,  you  know  what,  maybe  you  can  share  what  you're  listening  to..."  river  loved  classical  music.

perhaps not the best look towards a client of his, but idris would worry about that once he was out of this situation. " thanks. i'm not usually so unprepared, but all my stuff is at my office. i didn't think a gym break would cause so many issues. " he gave a grimace. " i can change a tire, i just don't have the tire to change it with. it's been on my list, but personal life comes second to work so i've yet to get it done. so if you could call a tow, that'd be great. "

       "don't  worry  about  it."  a  smile  was  delivered  despite  it  not  quite  reaching  her  eyes,  which  had  nothing  to  do  with  him.  ferah  understood  his  stress  and  didn't  take  it  personally.  "no  matter  how  well  prepared  we  think  we  are  life  will  throw  us  curveballs  anyway."  phone  in  hand,  her  driver  commented  a  service  to  call  for  the  tow  so  she  handed  her  device  off  to  him.  "you  can  come  in  and  charge  your  phone  up  if  you'd  like."

dominic  doesn't  answer  straight  away  -  not  because  he's  considering  saying  no,  but  because  he's  already  clocking  the  situation  before  the  words  have  even  finished  leaving  the  other  man's  mouth.  “ you've  got  at  least  two  still  out  there. ”  he  adds  after  a  beat,  voice  quieter  now  as  he  moves  to  lean  against  the  wall  near  the  other.  one  foot  hooks  loosely  over  the  other,  hands  slipping  into  his  jacket  pockets  -  relaxed,  nothing  about  him  screaming  lookout  even  though  that's  exactly  what  he's  doing.  “ but  you  don't  need  to  ‘ owe  me  one ’  for  it. ”  not  that  he  was  the  source  of  their  affection  but  he  was  practically  hiding  out  too,  more  so  from  other  people  rather  than  the  paparazzi.  “ consider  it…  neighbourly. ”  gaze  moved  from  where  it  was  locked  onto  one  of  the  photographers,  glancing  at  the  other  with  a  raised  brow.  “ hounding  you,  were  they? ”

       "not  yet,  but...  i'm  trying  to  keep  that  from  happening."  blue  eyes  were  casually  fixed  on  his  company  for  a  moment,  watching  for  any  signs  that  would  point  to  the  need  to  move  quickly  from  their  current  hiding  spot.  "neighborly,  huh?  don't  get  too  much  of  that  here  in  new  york."  tone  non-judgmental,  just  an  easy  observation  from  his  experiences  around  the  city  over  the  years.  "thank  you.  maybe  you  won't  accept  a  favor  in  return  but  if  we  make  it  outta  here  without  having  to  run  then  perhaps  i  can  get  you  a  coffee  or  something  before  we  part  ways."  something  in  the  other's  body  language  told  river  that  he  wasn't  exactly  wanting  to  be  spotted  either  but  river  wasn't  going  to  pull  on  that  thread  just  yet.

" this cannot be happening ! " deep voice rumbled as he opened his car door , stepping out of his car , stress smeared all over his face . " a flat ?! a damn flat tire . " furious didn't even begin to cover what he was feeling . " and a dead phone , any chance i can borrow yours ? or better yet , do you have a cable so i can charge mine ? " at least that way he could still check his emails .

       how  anyone's  phone  could  go  dead  these  days  was  beyond  ferah's  understanding.  that  complaint  had  been  the  first  thing  she'd  heard  him  rant  since  she'd  pulled  over  and  rolled  down  her  window.  from  her  spot  in  the  backseat  she'd  witnessed  the  flat  and  him  making  it  to  the  shoulder  of  the  road,  and  while  her  driver  insisted  on  continuing  on  she  had  decided  to  be  a  good  samaritan.  "i'm  pretty  sure  i  have  a  cable  in  my  bag."  a  turkish  accented  reply  was  called  out  the  window  as  she  began  rummaging  through  her  birkin.  "do  you  need  us  to  call  anyone...  a  tow?  or  are  you  equipped  to  change  the  tire  yourself?"  despite  him  not  being  able  to  see  she  pat  the  headrest  of  the  seat  in  front  of  her.  "i'm  sure  he  could  help  if  you  don't  have  the  skill."

holding  a  cup  of  hot  chai  in  her  hand,  after  being  finished  with  her  private  classes  for  the  morning,  mila  found  herself  around  the  reservoir  looking  at  the  skyline  of  the  west  side  from  the  east.  she  did  find  central  park  to  be  obnoxious  at  times,  but  beautiful  at  most.  she  was  so  spaced  out  with  her  airpods  in  her  ears  listening  to  whatever  podcast  was  in  the  background  of  her  walk,  that  she  didn't  even  realize  someone  was  talking.  “  i'm  sorry.  ”  the  ballerina  says  as  she  takes  out  one  airpod.  “  were  you  talking  to  me  ?  ”

       "my  bad,  sorry."  with  his  hat  low,  not  to  shield  him  from  the  sun  particularly  but  from  social  scrutiny,  river  took  a  step  back.  "you  had  a  bee  flying  around  you  and  i  was  just  trying  to  warn."  some  people  were  allergic  and  that  could  be  fatal.  he'd  spaced  on  the  fact  that  she  might  have  had  something  in  her  ears  and  had  actually  assumed  she  was  that  zoned  out  and  hadn't  heard  him  until  then.  "i  was  trying  to  guide  it  away,  didn't  mean  to  startle  you."  the  poise  and  posture  were  easily  recognizable  and  somewhere  in  the  back  of  river's  mind  he  was  curious  if  she'd  been  listening  to  music  for  something  upcoming.

call ended after final word was delivered, neither room nor time left for argument from the person on the other end. after phone was returned to her purse, yujin made her way back to where companion waited.  ❝ where were we ? ❞   announced her return. apology deemed unnecessary, and the door to what had briefly called her away shut behind her; own matters were not for other ears.

       "i  think  we  were  deciding  on  an  appetizer."  when  it  came  down  to  it  ferah  wasn't  bothered  at  all.  she  understood.  it'd  been  the  way  members  of  her  family  had  moved  since  she  was  little.  business  always  came  first  so  she  didn't  bat  an  eye  when  yuin  had  to  take  a  call  away  from  the  table,  nor  did  she  fuss  when  she'd  returned.  "did  you  see  anything  you  particularly  liked?"

after  talking  to  the  press  about  her  song  in  the  movie,  kamala  tired  of  saying  the  same  thing  over  and  over  again.  to  be  honest,  she  had  no  real  personal  connection  to  the  song  because  just  like  all  of  her  other  songs,  she  didn't  actually  write  it.  don't  let  the  fraudulent  credit  fool  you,  the  songwriters  that  the  labels  hired  for  this  asked  for  her  input  on  one  word  and  called  that  a  credit.  same  old  shit,  as  far  as  kamala  was  concerned.  when  she  saw  someone  approach  her,  she  let  out  a  sigh  of  relief  that  they  didn't  have  a  microphone  in  their  hand.  if  she  had  to  do  another  tiktok  dance  or  recreate  another  stupid  trend,  she  was  going  to  lose  her  mind.  she  understood  why  she  was  the  person  who  everyone  thought  would  love  something  like  that  but  she  hated  it.  "  oh  my  god,  it's  good  to  see  you  !  "  kamala  wears  the  smile  that  has  become  almost  automatic  over  the  years.  "  what  is  this  movie  about  again  ?  "  even  though  there  was  no  microphone  or  a  camera  shoved  in  her  face,  she  still  needed  to  perform.

       "i'm  not  too  sure  to  be  honest  with  you."  the  answer  was  accompanied  by  a  smile.  something  charmed  and  friendly,  inviting...  ministrations  he  was  well  accustomed  to  when  it  came  to  public  appearances,  walking  red  carpets,  and  doing  media.  if  there  was  a  camera  around  he  had  to  be  on.  "they  didn't  tell  you  when  you  were  putting  the  song  together  for  it?"  since  he  hadn't  really  dabbled  into  the  music  industry  he  wasn't  sure  if  it  were  the  same  on  each  project.  "i  figured  you  would've  at  least  gotten  to  see  an  advanced  viewing."  broad  shoulders  rose  and  fell  and  his  blue  eyes  drifted  momentarily,  taking  in  the  scene  and  hoping  he  could  continue  to  lay  low.  the  reason  he'd  come  was  at  the  insistence  of  his  agent  given  that  his  upcoming  project  was  attached  by  the  same  production  company.
