the starlight gazette has been in print for as long as anyone can remember. it dedicates its last few pages to publishing anonymous letters sent in by readers with an alias. while some simply take the opportunity to advertise something for themselves, others use it as a confessional of sorts, or a way to connect with anonymous penpals. ` â / for @starfallhq
As yet another month passes by, the changes within Starlight Bay have only become more evident. With the cooling weather, beachgoers retreat earlier and earlier. Boardwalk shops, if they havenât already, see a significant decline of tourist business as the last of them board the bus out of town. By this point, anyone who remains in Starlight Bay are those whoâve lived here all their lives, or those who may very well join them soon.
Yet Starlight Bay - or Geojin Bay, as you may hear more frequently now - has always stood for hope and idealism, and the month of October is known as the Month of Harvest. With the annual Harvest Festival, Geojin Market Square is transformed into a festival hub rife with locally sourced dishes, live music, and ample space for locals to set up their own stalls.
At the dawn of the Harvest Festival, however, it becomes apparent that this year will be like no other. There are stories of a specter being spotted at Haneulâs Lookout, one that supposedly grants your heartâs truest wish...if you are brave enough to approach. (see TASK 001: MEET ME AT TWILIGHT.)
Others might find different thrills at the carnival that breezes into town and settles on the sands of Starlight Beach. The boardwalk is transformed into a lively street of ( very fair, very balanced ) carnival games with prizes to be coveted, such as giant stuffed animals, candy, and discount coupons De-Lite and Starlight Arcade, along with a Ferris wheel thatâs been set up overnight, free to ride.
Although not an officially-recognized event, Halloween and particularly trick or treating has gained popularity over the last few decades. Itâs extremely popular among children, but many older residents choose to join in on the fun too, either donning costumes for the night or waiting at home to greet trick-or-treaters with a scare or two. This year, however, meteorologists warn against some cold weather arriving early, accompanied by some turbulent winds. Trick-or-treaters are advised to stay warm on the night of Halloween and to return home safely by the next day, as the first of November is predicted to be the start of some turbulent storms.Â
welcome to our first official event! below the cut, you will find a series of happenings around town for october 8 - november 1, which will also be the duration of this event. event threads can take place during any part of the event at any time, regardless of irl times/dates ( so, technically, you could have a halloween thread now! ). event starters can be tagged with str:event001. as always, please message the main if you have any questions, and donât forget to have fun!
The Harvest Festival.
One of Geojin Bayâs oldest traditions, the Harvest Festival has been held every year for as long as its residents can remember. Beginning on the 8th of October until the 15th of October, Market Square is transformed into a festival hub. Both commercial and game stalls line the square, and local farmers, business owners, and aspiring entrepreneurs are encouraged to set up their own stalls with their wares.
A wooden stage has been erected in the courtyard in front of town hall, where a rotating list of live musicians, typically Geojin Bay residents themselves, perform every evening from 6pm to 10pm. With the help of local event planners, the courtyard has been transformed into a dance floor, decorated with fairy lights and paper lanterns. Tables of free food line the sides, replete with dishes sourced from local farmers and anyone who wishes to contribute a dish.
Annual Carnival.
Considered by some to be the âsouthside equivalentâ of the Harvest Festival, the annual carnival began during Starlight Bayâs more popular years to encourage tourists to stay longer than just the summer. Starlight Beach and the boardwalk transform overnight into a walkway of twinkling lights, tinny music, and twisty balloons. Carnival games line the boardwalk, including a particularly difficult Test Your Strength game that tempts carnivalgoers with gigantic stuffed animal prizes. Has anyone actually won one of them? Spend a few thousand won, and you might find out! Other prizes include coupons to local business. ( Just watch out for counterfeits. )
Additionally, this year, a Ferris wheel has been assembled at the end of Starlight Beach. Although not the largest Ferris wheel in the world, it cycles high enough to give riders a glittering view of Starlight Bay.Â
Some locals are concerned about where the funds have come from, but Mayor Lim has remained tight-lipped with an indulgent smile.
Halloween.
Some would argue that the festival and the carnival both are simply lead-ups to the main event of October: Halloween. In the spirit of the season, all throughout October, The Reel hosts marathon nights of mainstream horror movies from around the world, with a special focus on Korean classics. Meanwhile, Rollerwa Skating Rink offers free admission to anyone who comes in costume. Customers at De-Lite and other eateries may also find themselves with more Halloween-themed flavors or, the seasonal staple, pumpkin.
On the night of October 31st, trick-or-treating officially runs from 5pm - 12am. While this is typically regarded as a soft rule thanks to Halloweenâs unofficial holiday status in Geojin Bay, local law enforcement have been direction to be stricter on this night, to ensure that everyone is home safe before the storm arrives the next day.

Haneul watches over Geojin Bay. This is known. Itâs said that at the right place, at the right time, you would be able to see them drifting along the sands of Starlight Beach, a ghost lost to time. Their identity remains unknown, but perhaps it has never been about who they are, but what they stand for: why we name lighthouses after people, why we search for ghosts, why we wish upon shooting stars.
On the twilight of the seventh of October, Haneulâs Lookout, that old, lonely tower that has long sat in the darkness of the northern cliffs, suddenly blooms with light. It isnât the sweeping beacon of a lighthouse, but a radiant starburst that fills the windows of the lighthouse and ekes through the cracks like a supernova.
When twilight fades, the light fades with it.
It doesnât take long for intrepid souls to start braving the cliffs to investigate. In true Starlight Bay fashion, the stories begin almost instantly, ranging from pranksters to ghosts to electrical malfunctions.
Thereâs one thatâs particularly compelling: step into the lighthouse at the twilight hour, and youâll find yourself with face-to-face with your heartâs truest wish.
welcome to our first official task! this task ties in directly to our EVENT 001: THE WINDS OF CHANGE. this task is optional and will be open for members to complete from now until november 1, 11:59pm (gmt-4).Â
your participation will be the equivalent of your muse entering haneulâs lookout during twilight, and you will be writing a self para in direct response to the prompt below. there is no length minimum or maximum, and self paras can be dated any time between october 8 - november 1. please see the notes below the prompt for further information, and donât forget to tag your tasks with #str:task001!
THE VISION.
The lighthouse is kept under tight lock and key to prevent accidents. A glaring red sign hangs on the chain fence surrounding it, warning trespassers of a hefty fine.
Still, in the glittering twilight of this evening, the gate lies open. The door waits, ajar.
There is light. There is so much light, it seems to be pushing and pulsing out from within, like the heart of a star. Enter, and a familiar figure awaits you. You recognize them, because how could you not? They are the person whom you believe in the most.
The specter stands in the middle of the floor, holding a blistering ball of light in their palms. Itâs so bright that it makes the walls of the lighthouse appear white and pristine.
âI knew you would come,â the specter says. âYou wouldnât have come if there wasnât a part of you that was missing something.â
They hold out the light.
âFor a world that harbors so much hope, it has forgotten so much of its magic. Come, take this star. I would like to give you some hope again.â
Do you take the star?
IF YOU ACCEPT THE STAR,
The specter smiles at you, as though they had known your choice all along.
âThere is nothing to fear,â the specter says softly, holding out the star. âTo paradise, then.â
All you need to do is touch.
* By choosing to take the star, your muse lays a hand on the ball of light, and they are given a brief illusion of a time and place they consider to be perfect, whether it is a memory or fantasy. When the illusion ends, your muse will awaken on the floor of the lighthouse, where twilight has passed and the specter has disappeared. Over the next several days, your muse would find that they are no longer able to see the light at Haneulâs Lookout, even if other residents insist they still do.
IF YOU LEAVE THE STAR,
The specter smiles at you, as though they had known your choice all along.
âYou have the resolve of a star yourself. Constant, unwavering. I see that now.â
Behind you, the lighthouse door falls open once more, revealing the waning twilight outside. The light of the specter gradually dissipates, until you are alone, and the lighthouse is dark once more.
* By choosing to leave the star, your muse walks out of the lighthouse and lets twilight pass. The light and the specter with it disappear, and over the next several days, your muse would find that they are no longer able to see the light at Haneulâs Lookout, even if other residents insist they still do.
TASK DETAILS.
your self para should be a direct reaction to the scenarios described above. it can include your museâs interaction with the specter or even how they arrived at the lighthouse, but it should at the very least include their choice to either take or leave the star.Â
the specterâs intentions are unknown. your muse may interpret them as benevolently or suspiciously as you wish.Â
the specter takes on the voice and physical appearance of the person whom your muse most believes in. this can be an npc from your museâs background or another muse within the group; if you choose the latter, please make sure to contact the mun of that muse to ensure they would be comfortable with it.
if they take the star, we encourage you to write about who or what your muse sees during the vision and whether it is a memory or fantasy. the illusion can last as long as youâd like, but in real time, only about 30-45 minutes will have passed, and your muse will wake up.
if they leave the star, we encourage you to write about your museâs reaction to the event. even if they chose not to take the star, the event feels real enough to be convincing. whose form did the specter take, and why or how was your muse able to refuse them? how do they feel about the event?
muses may choose to come to the lighthouse together, but upon entering, they would find themselves alone, as though they have stepped into different dimensions. they will only be able to see each other again once the vision ends or they walk out of the lighthouse.
muses can only encounter the specter once, regardless of their choice. afterwards, they no longer see the light at haneulâs lookout, and it would be empty if they chose to return to it.
PROLOGUE / EVENT 000: HONESTY IS THE FIRST CHAPTER OF...
With the first few days of fall comes a certain levity to the breeze, as though Haneul herself is in the air. Feel the wind ghost over your skin and ruffle through your hair, as though coaxing you along. Call it magic, call it a crisis, call it too many drinks in but whatever it is, you find that it makes you feel a little more honestâor, at least, more likely to be...
To complement our Task 000, starting now, we will be hosting weekly âhonesty weekends,â beginning on Saturdays @ 9pm (gmt-4) until the following Monday @ 9pm (gmt-4)! You don't have to participate every week, but if you do decide to participate for the current week, please see our EVENT 000 MASTERLIST for further instructions and a list of prompts to use, and reblog the masterlist (not this post!) to indicate you are participating.Â
To avoid spamming the dash, asks can only be sent and answered during the event periods, with the exceptions of any responses that might decide to turn into threads, which you can continue at any time as if they were a regular thread. Leftover asks can be answered again during the next week's event period along with any new asks.
While weâre styling this as an honesty event, itâs ultimately up to you how your muse may respond to questions, but do note that our main goal with this event is to help with character exploration/development!
Responses can count for activity in the following ways:
Responding to any three questions or prompts (can be a combination of questions/prompts, can be in separate or the same asks, as long as there are three responses in total) will count as activity. (Although we may contact you if we notice this happening too often only to avoid activity checks.)
Any response that you decide to turn into a thread will count as activity (just be sure to start a new text post to continue them, so you arenât reblogging the original ask every time!).
As always, if you any questions, feel free to contact the main, and if youâre participating, remember to send at least one ask to everyone else who participates. Last, but not least, we hope you have fun!
below the cut, you'll find a masterlist of questions and sentence prompts to use. please see our EVENT 000 announcement post for more details and how these can count for activity!
how to participate:
reblog this post and put in the tags whether you are accepting questions, prompts, or both. youâll need to reblog this post again for every event period you decide to participate again in.
the event period will run from saturday, 9pm (gmt-4) to monday, 9pm (gmt-4)Â every week.
if you participate, you must send at least one ask to everyone else participating.
CURRENT EVENT PERIOD:
start: saturday, sept. 2, 9pm (gmt-4)

See the horizon. See the sun thatâs coming awake there, or perhaps itâs retiring for the moon now; see the golds and pinks and the promise of a sunny dayâs blue, or perhaps the indigos and violets stark behind stars.
See the one that approaches, their gait and their pace and the clothes that hang off their figure. Most details are lost to the distance, but if you look and listen hard enough, you might be able to discern their identityâŚ
hello, everyone! out of excitement, and in order to give everyone a little sneak peek of each otherâs muses, weâve prepared a small task in the form of a questionnaire for your muses below the cut. you can answer these as if you were talking about your muse, in third person narration, or in first person as your muse themselves, and your answers can be as light or as in-depth as youâd like. this task is completely optional; you can answer all, some, or none of the questions!
our blogroll will remain hidden until tomorrow to respect those who wish to keep their muses under wraps until official opening, but if you do want your posts to be shared, be sure to cut your posts as necessary and tag them as #str:task000, along with any triggers on our triggers page. any posts containing that tag will be reblogged to our starter blog @starfallstartersâ for others to see and interact with! if you choose to participate but donât tag your post, we will assume you donât want it to be seen until our official opening, which is perfectly fine too. this task will be open indefinitely, both for current members and any future new members whenever they want.
we hope youâll have as much fun answering and reading each otherâs responses as we will!
