This is a book series I will be releasing on Wattpad. A few chapters of the first book were previously released there under the name of Coaster Dragons, but those were dark times... This new version is different :)
Starholders is currently planned to have 7 books and maybe a spinoff series. You don't have to be knowledgeable of theme parks or rollercoasters to understand the series, everything will be explained.
I struggle with writers block a LOT and any sort of positive interaction with this blog will help motivate me to work on this! If you choose to follow along with development, thank you so much!!
This blog is going to be for updates, concept art, asks, and everything else to do with The Starholders series.
Now let's move on to the fun stuff!
Under the surface of every amusement park, there is a world full of dragons representing each attraction. They live in a duplicate version of their park where humans can't be seen. This place, called Paraverse by its residents, has been ruled by gods called the Founders. Well, until now.
Mysteriously, the Founders are dying off without warning. With each one lost, Paraverse descends deeper into chaos. Reality is coming apart, and the lives of every dragon will soon be in danger.
The Founders had one last hope that they put the rest of their power into: a group of Tracktails (rollercoaster dragons) with godlike powers that will grow into the next ruling deities. The next Starholders.
This series follows the young Starholders as they discover their destiny and try to save their dying world before the damage is irreversible. There are shadow demons, a species of deadly robots, and plenty of worldbuilding elements inspired by the theme park industry.
Blog-wise, big shout-out to @sunrisinguniverse and @of-potions-and-blades-official, other original book blogs found on Tumblr. Their ideas are super cool and a huge motivator for starting my own blog. Check them out too!!
Book wise:
Wings of Fire - Many of the character dynamics and species traits.
Warriors - Religious system and social hierarchy.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - Use of superpowers in society, redemption villains, the Chosen One trope done right.
Shadow and Bone - Different superpower categories and fantasy stuff.
Raya and the Last Dragon - Inspiration for the Founders, Starholders, and the-world-is-ending-and-the-sky-is-falling vibes

Hey guys! I know we only got to DOTW #5, but the event is starting to become harder and harder to catch up with - I'm going to pause with posting it every week so I can lock in on some irl things, schoolwork and stuff. As soon as I'm able, I'll get back to Dragon of the Week. I know it's the only thing keeping this blog alive right now :)
I'm still writing a little bit in the Starholders book 1 every day. There will be updates when I hit any milestones, of course!
Info: Fury is the resident Giga rollercoaster of Carowinds. At her park, the title isn't treated all that special, seeing as their community feels more like a big friend group than a full-on park. Unlike the other Gigas with their roles of authority, Fury is more like just the "tall friend." She wouldn't have it any other way. But dynamics begin to shift when the park's Pixelsphere loses its stability - a disaster that will affect Carowinds more than anyone would have expected.
Info: Mystic lives in the woods and spends most of his time among the trees honing his instinct. You can never be too skilled at your talent, of course. He doesn't speak a lot, not even with his closest friends, unless something is really really important. He likes listening to his old, busted radio. Mystic is a central character in book 3 of The Starholders.
The tree rings on his wing membrane, along with the entirety of his eyes, light up glowing green when he uses his powers. (As demonstrated in the headshot) His mouth and nostrils are perpetually glowing green in homage to the theming in his rollercoaster.

Info: Mouse is a very young spinning coaster with a heart of gold. At her homepark, tradition says to finish mentoring the next Tracktail that hatches before you discover your own instinct. It's Mouse's job to mentor Siren's Curse. She's super excited to introduce Siren to the Paraverse and discover what her special superpower is!
Info: Monster is soft-spoken and pretty unknown in Kings Island. He gets his own moment in book 3 of Starholders when, out of nowhere, his friends - and possibly the fate of the whole park - depend on him for survival. He enjoys sunbathing hanging out with his group of friends.
Why not start off this tradition with the first main protagonist?
What is Dragon of the Week?
Credit: Orion on Wikipedia
(his design does a sorta pokemon evolution throughout the series it gets cooler looking trust)
Home park: Kings Island
Pronouns: He/him
Species: Tracktail
Ride type: Giga coaster (est. 2020)
Founder: Mabillard
Instinct: Ice manipulation
Info: Orion has always been the odd one out at Kings Island. The only dragon who understands him is Flight of Fear, his mentor and the other attraction in his specific area of the park. Dragons will often avoid him whenever he comes near. He's the biggest dragon in Kings Island, and his ice powers get out of control more times than they're helpful. Orion has learned to just stay silent and not question the weird looks and whispers he gets behind his back.
Every week, there will be one dragon that we shine a spotlight on! (I'll try to post every Wednesday as consistently as possible, but please understand if there are schedule conflicts :P)
The Dragon of the Week post will include a reference drawing, a picture of their real life attraction, and information about the character. This is meant to help me flesh them out and finally get a solid visual design for them.
This is also to encourage fanart !! If you're an artist looking for something to do I will love anything you send in for my characters :) (as long as it's Safe For Work and friendly)
Feel free to request certain attractions too, active or defunct, from any park.

(as this series continues development, things are subject to change!)
(additionally, most of this information will be explained within the books as well. none of this is a spoiler though ofc)
Basic biological and cultural information about the five living dragon species, the Cyberclaws, and the two types of deities.
What is this for?
CHANGELOG
2/3/2026 - answered the question "what happens to Aquarians in the winter?"
Represent rollercoasters.
Quadrupedal with two wings (membranous, insect-like, or feathered depending on coaster theming)
Steel coasters have upturned horns and a sail down their back (but Giga coasters have straight horns) / Wooden coasters have downturned horns and spikes down their back / Hybrid coasters have twisted horns and armor plates
Each Tracktail has their own unique superpower, called an "instinct," which is based on their coaster's theming. This can be anything from mind reading to ice powers to transforming into a bird. In most park cultures, instincts are a central part of society and of an individual Tracktail's core sense of self.
Depending on the coaster's height, the Tracktail fits into a certain category. The hierarchy is as follows: (sorry if I messed up any of the feet-to-meters conversions!!)
Exa: 500+ ft // 152.4+ m
Strata: 400+ ft // 121.92+ m
Giga: 300+ ft // 91.44+ m
Hyper: 200+ ft // 60.96+ m
Terra: 40+ ft // 12.192 + m
Junior: 0-39 ft // 0-11.9+ m
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Represent flat rides.
Name pronounced the same as "serpent." Name derived from circle + serpent, since all flat rides move in a circular path in one form or another.
Wyverns (two legs, two large wings), small horns, large deer-like ears
Cirpents have glowing, color-changing scale patterns that are synched to their corresponding flat ride. They only light up in the dark.
Small but fast. Built for flying quickly, with increased stamina. They are very awkward walkers, so they prefer to fly or glide everywhere.
Vegetarian species that is very against violence. Incredibly social.
(behavior inspired by deer)
(image from the Kings Island website)
Represent waterpark attractions. (Waterslides, wave pools, lazy rivers, anything built within a waterpark)
Stout, streamlined quadrupeds with two smooth wings and a thick, flat tail. Have gills that filter chlorinated water. Webbed sail down their back and webbed claws. Fins under arms.
Aquarians representing something that contains a slide will have a band of differently-colored scales on either wrist. The more slides, the more bands.
Their culture highly values tattoos of waves, swirls, and other smooth aquatic designs, especially on the wing membrane.
In most cases, they exist as a particularly isolated society away from from "drylanders," except for Rapids who they consider distant but friendly brethren.
In the winter, Aquarians don't hibernate, but instead grow a thicker, paler coat of scales that covers their gills, along with some spikes on their head and back. It is a common myth that their metabolism slows and they become perpetually tired. In truth, they just aren't primarily built for walking on land all the time and are slow by nature. During these cold months, Aquarians enjoy decorating themselves with snowflake patterns and paper crafts.
(behavior inspired by aquatic mammals)
Represent water-based attractions within a dry theme park. (So, most commonly, river rapid rides)
Wyverns (two legs, two wings) with gills that filter chlorinated water. Two jointed claws on wings. Thick, flat tails. Some glowing marks.
Considered to be hybrids between Cirpents and Aquarians.
Agile species known for their ability to adapt and respond to any situation.
Aquatic, swim predominantly with their powerful wings that are also built for bursting into flight.
Rapids are the only species to hibernate.
Omnivorous, species enjoys cooking and crafting meals instead of just hunting/gathering like most others.
(behavior inspired by brown bears)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Represent dark rides.
Lean, thin build. Quadrupedal with sharp claws and two thick wings. Scales are stone-like and tough with some thicker display scales around the shoulders.
Bodies are blacklight-reactive and shoulder scales glow in the dark. Have excellent night vision and temperature adaptation.
Widely misunderstood species stereotyped to be aggressive and depressed. In actuality, Blacklights are introverted and have naturally intimidating appearances.
Blacklights are split into two subspecies that depend on the themes and content of their dark ride:
Neons: Brighter, more whimsical, and/or more childish dark rides. Blacklights with this theme are able to become invisible and teleport through places with bright lights. (Spotlights, areas of sunlight, mirror reflections, etc)
Shadows: Darker, more serious, and/or scarier dark rides. Blacklights with this theme are able to become invisible and teleport through places of darkness. (Shadows, rooms without lights, ect)
(behavior and appearance inspired by gargoyles)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Represent the online/media presence of Tracktails.
Born to copy an existing Tracktail in appearance, except for external differences like having a glossy, hexagonal-shaped scale pattern.
Completely robotic species with an artificially intelligent mind. Their head is screen black with animatronic eyes, but they have two faceplates for the upper and lower halves of their head that can open on a hinge. This covering is the part of the head meant to appear like their corresponding Tracktail.
Species lives inside a digital plane called the Pixelsphere which can be accessed through tv screens and arcade games in a park.
When a Cyberclaw comes of age (3 years), they will craft a weapon called a cybertooth. This object, which appears as a large white fang with neon green wiring, is usually held in a holster on the arm, leg, or base of the tail. It is unknown to dragons of the Paraverse what the abilities of a cybertooth are, but there are many haunting theories.
Cyberclaws only come into being when a Tracktail hits a certain amount of media attention.
They do not possess instincts like their Tracktail counterpart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gods of the Paraverse.
Can appear in the form of an Earthly animal or dragon species, but in their default state, are bipedal with four feathered wings and a sail of feathers. Made of pure light. Tall and graceful.
Possess the powers of creation and dictation over the laws of the Paraverse.
Founders are based off of real life attraction manufacturers. Dragons will be born under the domain of a certain Founder (the one that manufactured them) and are believed to go to the afterlife of their assigned Founder.
Individual Founders will sponsor certain parks, usually because they have lots of dragons there. (This means that the Founder is responsible for watching over their sponsored parks)
There are six "main" Founders:
Mabillard: (Bolliger and Mabillard) god of valiancy. Domain members are called "Mabillaran"
Intamin: (Intamin Amusement Rides) god of generosity. Domain members are called "Intaminic"
Arrow: (Arrow Dynamics/Development) god of agility. Domain members are called "Arrowic"
Premier: (Premier Rides) god of wisdom. Domain members are called "Premium"
Rocky: (Rocky Mountain Construction) god of innovation. Domain members are called "Rockian"
Vekoma: (Vekoma Rides Manufacturing) god of kindness. Domain members are called "Vekomese"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fatals:
Creatures of death. They are not of this world.
Tall, imposing bipeds with long claws. Body made of pure darkness. Wings are hollow and flightless. Blank white eyes and their names inscribed in glowing white symbols on their tails. Line of sharp spikes down their back. Two demon-like front horns.
They lack lips, and therefore cannot speak, so instead communicate with body language.
The Founders created them to be their moral opposites. They are built to dispose of dragons at the end of their lifespan and take them to the afterlife.
In legend, Fatals are peaceful, silent grim reapers that kill quickly and painlessly. It doesn't seem that way when one truly meets them, though.
Heightened sense of smell, taste, and hearing. Cat-like balance. Highly venomous saliva which they often use to coat their clawtips.
Fatals are actually the first stage of a metamorphosis.
Lethalites:
The second stage of metamorphosis. They are Fatals, but bigger and with filled-in wings and lips to speak.
There are not many Lethalites living in the world.
It is unknown how to become a Lethalite, but it is a goal that all Fatals strive to achieve within their lifetime. They are seen as a higher state of being.
(behavior and appearance inspired by Spinosaurus aegyptus)
