So I have self-appointed (myself) as my bf’s manager for his one-man band. I’ve been reading a lot of articles on how to promote yourself, putting together an EPK, how to approach venues and booking agents. So far I have only found one website that actually gave suggestions on how to write an email pitch to said venue/booker. That was actually somewhat helpful, but here is my problem/dilemma.... all of these suggestions I’ve seen are really, actually geared towards bands who may have already played a few shows, who might have a digital recording of some songs. I am literally starting from SCRATCH. My bf does have some songs on Soundcloud, but they’re different from what he’s playing now, and doesn’t want people to hear them... -__- I’ve made him an Instagram page where I’ve uploaded a bunch of demos, but Insta only lets you have a 1-minute clip, so I’ve also made a FB page to upload full length videos. We don’t have money yet to do an actual studio recording, and we live in a shitty one bedroom apartment, so I’m not sure how a home recording would go... He’s played ONE show. How am I supposed to put together a full press kit and talk about what kind of a DRAW he can bring to a venue when he has played one.fucking.show. ??? So I am reaching out to you, the beautiful, DIY, indie musicians of Tumblr. Any advice or insights into your struggles and successes breaking into your local music scene (we’re in Baltimore) (or like how you word your own pitch email) would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!
