continued from here for @starboyjimâ
Although sheâd fixated on the lanterns outside of her window for so long as a child, she had come to learn that there were other things that made the sky look just as beautiful, one of which included fireworks. Sheâd never seen anything like it, the way that they burst in the sky like they were blossoming, then fading away. With Jimâs sense of adventure taking over, he had insisted that they go to his favorite spot to go watch them, at the top of a small mountain that had been a pretty silent hike to get there. Though Rapunzel knew what she had to say, she had no idea how to form the words.
Rapunzel couldnât help but stare in awe, her gaze focused on the spectacle in front of her. She had never seen them from so high up before, watching as they burst and rained light on the entire city at the bottom. âThank you for this,â she said as the show ended, looking back at him for the first time, though his gaze was already fixated on her. âThank you for all of it, the adventure.â She paused, digging her feet into the dirt in attempt to ground herself for what was coming next. âBut you know we canât âŚ. follow anything but the fireworks. Sheâsâtheyâre not engaged anymore,â Rapunzel mumbled, thinking of Anna and how she had sacrificed the seemingly perfect man for the one beside her.
Jim pursed his lips, nodding slightly as he understood what she meant. He was a smart boy, and he knew how to read between the lines. Jim wasnât going to dig the wound deeper by asking more about it. Tonight, perhaps, they could just enjoy the view. "Thanks, Rapunzel." He took her hand, squeezing it gently. He caught her eye, and the color of it was always so comforting to him. "For a chance to see your light." He added, letting it go once more. Instinctively, he placed his hand back on his coat, a place where it was always warm and comfortable. For what itâs worth, he had a fun time. Their drunken walks on cobblestones were mere memories he knew he wouldnât be able to forget. Rapunzel was his salvation when he knew he couldnât be with Anna, even if Anna had confessed her feelings to him. She felt like a warm summer breeze in the dry winter air --- with curious, innocent eyes and lips quick to laugh. "It's nice to share the view with someone. Imagine the vast universe, how little we are, and yet somehow we feel complete with another soul." Jim smiled warmly at her, with genuine happiness for sharing the moment with her. "How fortunate I must be that our lines have crossed." Even if they were meant to separate along the way. That one dot of chance, that split second of experience, was enough. For Jim, this was enough.Â
He had talked to Flik previously about his plans, which didn't seem to be happening any longer. Nonetheless, he was used to the goodbyes. "Well, now that's the smoke. The only remainder that a spark once existed." It disappeared to thin air, invisible to the naked eye. Was that all they would be soon in time? Jim couldn't tell. "You want to go eat?" He asked, making the most out of their seemingly last night together.
