Truthfully, I don’t care what is said by fans who think otherwise. IchiRuki was real, it was genuine, it made fucking sense. I dedicated YEARS to this manga. I knew what their relationship was, what it had, I know it was real.
Ichigo and Rukia had a beautiful bond. You can say what want, but you can’t deny that. Kubo stated HIMSELF they were more than friends, less than lovers. And just because he doesn’t confirm them a couple, that doesn’t mean that their relationship wasn’t special. I would’ve been fine if they didn’t end up together, if he just left them the way they’ve always been. But to do this? This is a betrayal. Aside from the ending making absolute no fucking sense whatsoever, he throws Rukia with Renji and Orihime with Ichigo with no explanation. What happened between those years? Who knows? And let me get one thing straight, I would ship IchiRuki to my grave, BUT RENJI AND RUKIA AT LEAST MADE MORE SENSE THAN ORIHIME AND ICHIGO. Ichigo never acknowledged Orihime’s feelings. Yes, we were fully aware of her feelings, BUT IF ORIHIME DIDN’T FEEL THREATENED BY ICHIGO AND RUKIA’S RELATIONSHIP, THEN EXPLAIN TO ME WHY
SHE WAS
SO JEALOUS
OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP
EVEN ORIHIME SAW HOW CLOSE ICHIGO AND RUKIA WAS. SHE WASN’T IN DENIAL ABOUT IT. SHE WASN’T STUPID. SO WHY EVEN BOTHER SHOWING HER BEING JEALOUS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS? SHE KNEW THEY HAD A BOND–A CONNECTION, SHE COULD NEVER HAVE. ORIHIME WANTED HER FEELINGS TO REACH ICHIGO BUT THEY NEVER DID. AND YET SOMEHOW THEY MAGICALLY DID WITHIN THIS 10 YEAR TIME SKIP? YEAH, SURE…
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Orihime, in fact I love her. I think she’s cute, bright, and adorable. She liked Ichigo, I know that. I understand that. But she deserves someone who recognizes her feelings. Ichigo didn’t. And I’m not saying that because I want Orihime to not love Ichigo, he just didn’t see her that way. Yet magically he does in the end? I’m sorry but, it doesn’t work that way. Ichigo never recognized her feelings even once. Maybe it was obvious, maybe it wasn’t, but he didn’t see it. Why do you think she was jealous in the first place? He was too busy looking at Rukia. So at least give a chance to someone who does look at her (Ishida, anyone?). Ichigo and Rukia’s meeting was always defined as “destiny” that means it was meant to happen. But I don’t think Orihime and Ichigo’s relationship was meant to happen.
Renji and Rukia? Yes, I can see how Renji had feelings for Rukia, he did have a past with her. But again, it was mostly one-sided. And it doesn’t change the fact that it was probably an excuse to make their children meet up in this horrendous ending and give the chapter it’s mockery title “Death and the Strawberry”. But worse of all, nothing is explained. It just is what it is.
But you know what? Bleach died years ago after this last arc started. No matter what you shipped you can’t deny that Bleach was going downhill. Nothing made sense, there were plot holes galore, and Kubo was throwing in and out new characters like crazy. What the fuck happened to Grimmjow, Nel, Harribel, the fullbringer group? HELL, EVEN ICHIGO’S DAD? URYUU’S DAD? They had a bigger role in this arc yet they don’t even appear in the last chapter. This conclusion was half-assed, regardless of what was canon or not. It was very anti-climatic to say the least. So nothing will change the fact that the story went to shit.
The series was good, don’t get me wrong, but it went to shit. And I guess to match the way it was going, it had to end that way too. At least Kishimoto knew where the hell the direction of his manga was going. So it’s unfortunate it had to end this way. It had plot-holes and the development of these characters were completely wasted. Poor Uryuu, we got the back of him on the color page, and a mere panel in the last chatper. No reunion with the rest of his friends. There wasn’t even a proper conclusion with Ichigo and his Shinigami role. We even saw during the fullbringer arc, Ichigo felt empty when he wasn’t a Shinigami. And yet, we don’t get an explanation of what he currently does? Does he still perform his role as Shinigami? Has he given it up? We’ll never know I guess.
So you wanna know why I feel betrayed? This is why.
Because the facts were there but completely disregarded. 15 years down the drain. It all feels wasted. I was way to dedicated for my own good. I spent years analyzing every little thing of this manga. So before anyone tells me I was in denial all long, no I was not. I was not wrong. It’s all there. It was always there. It’s clear to me this manga should’ve ended after they defeated Aizen. As it was initially supposed to end.
TL;DR? Too bad, it’s been 8 fucking years of this shit and I need to get this out. I am saltier than the seven seas and this manga deserved better.
