Portia Stanton

“I try my hardest to avert my eyes every time I spot PDA. That or I go the opposite direction.” Megara explained, happy to have someone who she could speak freely about her dislike of couples and expressions of love.

“It’s a pleasure,” she replied.  Portia allowed a smile to spread on her face.  She knew a drink later would be exactly what she needed.  

Kari tried to let that sink in before she attempted a response. How could someone hate happy people? Even she, who was raised repressed, and more than a little self deprecating, managed to be a happy person. “Okay, but why? I mean I guess we can be annoying sometimes, when one isn’t in the mood to fake a smile, but what about the rest of the time? Aren’t you ever happy about things?”

Portia laughed at the question.  “Of course, I’m happy sometimes, love.  But you don’t see me parading about and causing a scene just because I’m feeling a normal human emotion.” 

Felicity fought off the urge to laugh. “The fact that you’re so angry. No one is making you stare or judge or even  watch people simply holding hands. Yet, here you are complaining, and whinny over it. I don’t doubt someone would be lucky to have you, but those people.” She motioned towards the couple she tried to tripped, “Think that person is the greatest thing, just as you would think someone would think of you. That, is why I find you bitter.” 

“Clearly, you are not very well versed in how to read people.  I’m not angry, simply amused at their need to parade around like to insecure, little lemmings.”

“That’s true.” He nodded, “Should we hex them?” He asked in all seriousness. 

“I tried that.  But feel free to have a go. I can only hope your luck will be better than mine.” 

“Do better next time,” was all he said with a shrug before returning to his paper. 

“Why don’t you give it a try?” she challenged.  “The end result has got to be more interesting than that drab paper you’re reading.” 

“Paperwork,” Calhoun said, gesturing to the table top strewn with various different variations of it.

“Sounds positively dreadful.” 

Cherie glanced back at the girl that had walked by, though she disagreed in regards to the outfit, the split end were glaring on the girl. “Truly, and walking around with that man as if she should be proud? It is not something that one would flaunt in civilized company. At least, not like that.”

“Exactly my thoughts.  How refreshing it is to find someone that has a brain capable of thinking logically and isn’t clouded by fantasy.”  

“Ah, I see, well isn’t it their right to be happy? To have them express their emotions to one another how ever they want?”

“They have the right to do as they wish.  Just as I have the right to sabotage their afternoon.”

“Wholeheartedly,” She responded, settling into the bench next to her. She knew she was fairly overdressed with her booty shorts and the leather jacket draped over her shoulder, but she had a shift soon and figured heading to Hogsmeade in her uniform was her best bet. “It’s like they’re putting on a little show for everyone in the hopes that it proves they’re not lonely and insecure.”

As the girl sat down Portia gave her a once over.  She was in an interesting outfit, a little trashy for Portia’s tastes.  Yet, the girl did seem to have a decent head on her shoulders.  

Gaston raised a brow. “You are aware that I am a year older than you, right?” He didn’t appreciate being called kid, even more so because it was a girl saying it. “You can try nicknames like ‘hottest man ever’ or ‘big boy’. Whichever you chose as long as it’s not ‘kid’.”

Portia raised an eyebrow.  He clearly had an ego which was always fun to play with.  ”Would daddy be more appropriate?” she asked trying to catch him off guard. 

Megara was lazily wasting time in the quiet village one afternoon when she noticed the girl around her age that seemed to have a huge issue with all of the people enjoying their afternoon. She couldn’t help but watch the girl closely, a smirk growing on her face at her antics. When she cast a quick spell to cause a girl to trip and stumble nearby, Megara knew she had to say something.

Portia glanced up at the girl who had approached her.  It wasn’t necessarily that Portia wasn’t a big fan of love, she just didn’t appreciate other people in love.  But she would never admit that to anyone. 

Cherie had been passing, barely taking notice to the people around her. As she watched the couple pass around her though she rolled her eyes. Disgusting. This was summer, full of flings and desperate attempts at romance. Cherie knew that. When the voice nearby said precisely what she was thinking. “Precisely.” She rolled her eyes. “They need to take their little… Rendezvous… Elsewhere. And her outfit. Disgusting.”

Portia was grateful to see another individual who wasn’t hopelessly fantasizing about love or any kind of romance.  It was quite refreshing. 

Gaston shook his head and laughed. “I thought that was blondes.”

“You’ve been horribly misinformed.  But stick with me, kid and we can fix that.”

“Dumb? And why was it dumb, pet? I got a free drink, after all, even if it was rather lacking. Seems rather smart to me.” She offered the girl a grin before continuing her response. “No gift giving? Well that certainly doesn’t seem to be the kind of person that I’d want to befriend either. Perhaps you could consider this good practice.” Leaning over towards the girl, Melissa patted her hand, attempting to come across as condescending as possible. “Now that we’ve figured out some of your worse traits, maybe you can explain to me what makes you a person worth me wasting my breath on, if there’s anything at all.”

“Love, if you had two brain cells to rub together you would know that I’m not a person you want to mess with or even slightly annoy,”  Portia began.  

Clyde walked through the streets happy for the sun despite the heat, the warmth made it much more pleasant out and he couldn’t help but smile to himself at how happy a little vitamin D could make him feel. 

Portia looked up at the man with a look of shock on her face.  She would not tolerate being spoken to by anyone in that tone.  

“Indeed,” he said, looking up from his paper again, after having seen her attempt at breaking up the PDA. “Valiant effort,” he muttered, returning to his reading. 

Portia smiled at his comment.  The man had clearly noticed her magical handiwork.  “Thank you, but I seem to have only made the situation worse.”
