Exploring new Blockchain timestamping use cases: certifying mooc diplomas
Each day we spend more and more time exploring how the technology behind Stampery, the Bitcoin Blockchain, could improve processes and how we can build a more efficient tomorrow. Stampery enables a new world of opportunities for many industries using the decentralised technology of the Blockchain. With our powerful API we allow programmers from anywhere in the world to develop solutions using our core-service by integrating it in all kinds of third-party applications.
We were recently contacted by two of the top Spanish entrepreneurs in the Bitcoin space, who are currently focused on teaching what Bitcoin and the Blockchain are, to big companies highlighting the opportunities it opens for their businesses with a set of moocs called Blockchain Toolkit.
āOur main mission is to train our students to understand the Blockchain in depth, to let them identify areas and processes in their companies and markets where they can apply the huge potential that this technology hasā, says Roberto DĆaz, co-founder of Blockchain Toolkit.
We started exploring together a new use case based on the common problem that HR departments face each day, and which Stampery could solve: providing reliable, immutable and auditable studies certificates.
Candidates when applying to job offers, lie in their resumes with fake positions and studies. Checking if an application is trustworthy is time consuming and not always possible.
Blockchain Toolkit solves that problem delivering to all its participants a digital diploma stamped and stored into the Blockchain. Students can include diplomas in their resume, easily and anyone, employer or HR consultant, can verify independently and at zero cost the legitimacy of the diploma by comparing the diploma unique identifier (a simple and unrepeatable number that each diploma has with all the student data) with the original copy stored by the organisation into the Blockchain.

We are obsessed with design. Weāve always been. And, since the very beginning, we knew our goal would be to create products that make peopleās lives easier.
The joy of seeing how we can disintermediate industries and save time to our users, so they can focus on having a happier life, is what drives us.
We have developed the worldās best notarization product. You just drag and drop a file, we take care of the rest. Itās been a long journey and a lot of customer feedback and both design and technical decisions.
And, in order to continue putting design as our first priority, we have spent the past months looking for the perfect person to lead the design of both our notary platform and our upcoming products.
Someone who has a clear product vision, who is data driven and who understands how to interpret human behavior in order to create beautifully crafted products.
So, today, weāre extremely happy to welcome Marcos to our team.
Marcos has more than 10 years experience working with recognized companies, such as BBVA, Destinia, Real Madrid... He has a very interesting mix of expertise areas, from user behavior to UI design going through analytics and programming. He has also created a very cool Sketch Plugin. What a perfect match for us!
Here you go with a quick interview with him!
Luis: Marcos, weāre extremely happy to have you onboard! During your career you have designed products that have been used by tons of people all around the world. What motivates you from design?
Marcos: Iām extremely happy to join the team too!! About the question, well, what really motivates me itās the mere act of creating. Itās really exciting to follow the process of creation, from one āwhat ifā to a finished product. The moment your project goes live is also awesome, testing if weāve provided the best solution to a problem, seeing how users interact with your product⦠Itās the satisfaction we get at the end. The creation of something useful, being able to simplify something and achieve our goals using our skills and experience.
Luis: I know youāre very data-driven. But when data isnāt enough, where do you get your inspiration from?
Marcos: I get inspired from many sources. The one I like most could be cooking books. They are always a really good source for inspiration, as they need to be simple yet useful and attractive. Many recipes are just formulas and processes explained in a very simple way.
Luis: āDesign is the intermediary between information and understanding.ā ā Richard GrefeĀ How do you understand this quote? How do you see the future of design?
Marcos: In my opinion, this quote is trying to say that design helps people to understand information, making it a facilitator. We, as designers, need to get that information and make the important things outstand so that the forward path is clearly visible. At the end, design is about making life easier.
Weāre extremely happy to welcome Marcos as part of our team, working with us to keep making Stampery a product-focused company. Youāll use amazing products designed by him real soon.
We are extremely proud to announce that, starting today, our iOS app is publicly available.
With the app, you can now stamp any photos, voice notesĀ or files in no time, opening a new world of possibilities.
For example, if you were stuck in traffic, you can now prove it :)
Or, you can record a vocal contract, which are legally binding in a lot of countries but extremely difficult to prove they happened. Now you can create them on the go just by tapping a button.
āOur iOS app brings us closer to the idea that we can allow every person on earth to notarize any set of data, communication or file they want immediatelyā - Daniele Levi, CEO
Weāve been meticulous about translating our carefully crafted desktop experience to the iOS platform, with the quickest and most simple way to stamp and access your stamps.
āThe Stampery iOS app is really powerful, yet simple. Itās got a lot of challenges, and we loved pushing our limits to put it together" - Pablo Merino, iOS Lead

We are extremely excited to join an elite group of companies like Tesla, Skype or Baidu, also part of the Draper & Associates portfolio, and to work with the Draper family, who has always been an inspiration for the whole Stampery teamā.
āWe have created a product that puts blockchain technology to work without the user even noticing. Now we will continue integrating in systems millions of people are using - we already rolled out our Dropbox integration, next is Box, and so on. Our vision is to be everywhere there is a need of notarization. Traditional notarization is a drop in the ocean compared to the world of possibilities that fast and automatic data notarization opens upā said Luis IvĆ”n Cuende, CTO.
About Stampery
Stampery is a company based both in San Francisco, CA and Madrid, Spain, whose core mission is to replace brick-and-mortar notary publics. Stampery enables users to generate an immutable and accurate proof of existence, integrity and ownership for any document or digital communication. Anybody in the world can verify automatically and at zero cost that the documents or communications notarized with Stampery were made by a specific person on a specific date and that they werenāt modified. Leveraging a decentralized technology, as the blockchain is, the proofs generated with Stampery are valid forever and globally accessible, even if Stampery disappears.
About Draper & Associates
Draper Associates, founded in 1985, is a seed-stage venture capital firm that encourages entrepreneurs to drive their businesses to greatness, to transform industries with new technologies, and to build platforms for extraordinary growth, jobs, and wealth creation. The firm was founded by Tim Draper, and is best known for investments in companies such as Tesla, Skype, Baidu, Twitch, and Thumbtack.
Being selected as a K50 company for the Kairos Global Summit 2015 was extremely exciting for all the team: we had the opportunity to hang out with the most brilliant entrepreneurs that are solving really big problems with their ambitious visions and hard work.
Here just a few examples of some people that really left a deep mark in our hearths:
Thibaut Duchemin, CEO of AVA, is one the guys we simply cannot help admiring: coming from a family of hear impaired and deaf persons he has been bridging communications gaps from an early age. Thatās why he built AVA and Transcense, an app that gives deaf people a chance to āhearā who is saying what in groups conversations.
Kathleen Yu is building Rumarocket, which enables companies to save money, time and resources by using artificial intelligence to hire talent.
Takunda Chingozoh is the founder of Saisai Wireless and he comes for Harare, Zimbabwe: he is deploying āthe internet of Africaā. As a free WiFi network, it is built for maximizing network reach and coverage at the lowest cost possible by increasing the distribution of network resources to achieve 10x more efficiency.
Alex Lopera from Verse is leveraging on underlying Bitcoin technology to re-shape the remittances market: his company is building a product to send and request money from any phone for just about anything.
Danny Cabrera is building the future of regenerative medicine - Biobots is rolling out a high resolution desktop 3D bioprinter that builds functional three dimensional living tissue.
Sukh Sidhu from Dray really made our day: heās one of those guys whose drive and passion really levas a mark. Heās about to disrupt the logistics/supply chain industry, while making life easier for truckers in the process.
These are just 6 examples of +50 incredible founders we met at Kairos. Weāre so proud of being part of this amazing family!

Stampery chosen to participate in TechCrunch Disrupt Battlefield
Stampery has been chosen to participate in the main tech event in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, the āTech Crunch Disruptā Battlefield.
āWe are very proud to be able to launch Stampery, the XXIst centuryās notary, in the US insuch a prestigious event. Stampery solves data certification problems, let them be documents emails, contracts, creations etc.. with a technology developed on the bitcoin blockchain protocol, the current most promising technologyā says Luis Ivan Cuende, startup co founder and CTO.
Stampery allows individuals and companies to certify any type of data generating accurate, reliable and immutable proofs of existence, integrity and ownership. The product is a HTML5 service, a native iOS app will be launched shortly, and an API. Anyone can access, register and use the service for free, and Premium customershave access to the PRO plan at 9,99 euro a month that enable them to certify up to 1.000 documents per month. Larger companies have tailored plans per users and certificates.
The first users testing the service, currently over 700, principally in legal departments, creative economy, marketing and creative agencies, are able to use the platform as a certification base or use the storage service offered in each plan.
āThe bitcoin/blockchain as of today is regarded like the internet was regarded in the 90ās, with great potential. Our product is a non financial bitcoin application because it uses its extraordinary features to generate reliable and unforgeable proof of anything that has occurred and that has generated a digital register. The proof of existence, integrity and ownership that Stampery generates is valid globally, unchangeable, and can be verified by any independent third party in a question of seconds. This is revolutionary because today maths and not trust in a central authority allows us to verify that something has occurred in a certain moment in time. Because of its decentralized characteristics, the blockchain is completely safe being protected by the most powerful network of computers in the worldā explains Daniele Levi, the company CEO.
Stampery has developed a unique technology for scalability that is in the process of an international patent. This will permit millions of certifications per second.
āOur original scalability solution - says Luis Ivan, 19 years old, and one of the most recognised hackers in Europe - allows us to be extremely ambitious and to integrate Stamperyās functionality with hundreds of other services, like for example with Dropbox who already has 400 million usersā
The team that created Stampery is now on their third project in the bitcoin/blockchain industry, and they have been selected amongst more than 1.000 startups to be presented in San Francisco“s TechCrunch Disrupt Battlefield. A beta of the product was launched in May this year, and has participated in the international intensive acceleration programme Menorca Millennials in its first edition.
āThanks to Menorca Millennials we have had made some incredible contacts - Daniele says - and this is bringing forward new interesting business. With Menorca Millennials a new model, very innovative, open to the world is being created, it puts together international talent with mentors on the highest levels and investors from all over the world.ā
TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco, was celebrated from the 21st to the 23rd of September 2015. TechCrunch Disrupt brings together more than 1,500 first level innovative tech and investors, as well as 150 startups, The format envisages conferences by top entrepreneurs and important figures that are creating the development of emerging startups. Startup Battlefield is celebrated in the afternoons, 30 innovative companies, one of them being Stampery, are presented for the first time, competing over 50.000 USD, exhibiting their capabilities along with another 120 startups in the Startup Alley.
Iām always amazed to find the incredible talent we have at Spain.
But a year ago I got to know a very special case of a really young developer who moved to live on his own at the extremely early age of 18, which is probably the less common thing, because in Spain people usually move out of home after theyāre 25-30.
He did so because he found a job, that is also pretty unusual in Spain where unemployment is at crazy rates, specially youth unemployment.
He didnāt attend university at all, he has a 100% hands-on approach. And I absolutely love that, because thatās the way we work at Stampery. We are builders. We like to create. We are product-focused.
His background relates to backend technologies such as Go, Ruby and NodeJS, but he is also extremely passionate about iOS development, and he has already released a Bitcoin app for the iPhone.
So, to welcome him, thereās nothing better than an interview!
Luis: Pablo, weāre so happy to work with you. How did you got involved with Bitcoin and why did you create both BitcoinEx and Bitcointy?
Pablo: I got involved with Bitcoin because at the beginning it looked like a new, powerful technology. After that, Iāve discovered the technology behind it, and instantly liked it, and saw the potential it had. Iāve also liked the finance part of it, which also got me into the stock market, which has similar terms and such. At first, Iāve created Bitcointy as a way to merge multiple Bitcoin APIs (for prices and market data) into an unified API, which didnāt exist at the time. Later I created the iOS app to see how much I could exploit that API, and because iOS development is my favorite
Luis: Interesting. As a freedom lover, what do you think about the blockchain technology and the possibilities it opens?
Pablo: The blockchain technology opens a whole world of possibilities, which sadly I havenāt been able to explore totally, but I find it really interesting that the blockchain isnāt just specific to Bitcoin, but could also be applied to any other technology, such as what Stampery does. Also, it pushes the world towards a more decentralized society, where theoretically almost all the aspects of it could be implemented in the blockchain.
Luis: Youāre the one in charge of the Stampery iOS app. iOS development is having an awesome momentum with lots of new tools and possibilities. How do you see the future of iOS development?
Pablo: iOS development has evolved a lot since I started back in iPhone OS 2.x days. Now thereās a lot of tools and SDKs which make building a full featured app easy and powerful. Also thereās a huge collection of UI and backend libraries made by third parties (some by developers, other published by big brands such as Facebook) where you can choose which to use and which ones fit the best to your needs. Now, with Swift, iOS apps will be simpler and faster, since this new language improves almost all of the current Objective-C features, and fixes many of the known problems with it. Also, package managers are really powerful tools which solve the old problem of adding and configuring the dependencies, which propelled the amount of libraries available.
You heard it. Stampery is gonna be on iOS extremely soon thanks to Pablo, and get ready cause itās gonna be awesome.
And, as you saw on this postās photo, after Pabloās incorporation to the team, we are five blockchain lovers working on the product. So expect more great stuff coming.
We are totally thrilled to have Pablo working with us in order to take Stampery to the next level. Welcome to the team, Pablo!
Since we just added a couple awesome hackers to the team, things are moving faster and faster and we're gonna make new releases every week/couple weeks. So here's the quick changelog for v2.1!
Solved a bug that prevented us to use a new, really faster method of loading the panel
Added a second-precise date to all certificates
Added a reminder to use our email feature automatically
Better, more intelligent email stamping
Better looking file previews
Added a new core engine for blockchain interaction. More news and a detailed overview coming soon!
Since the very beginning of Stampery, we set our culture very straight.
We are freedom lovers. Bitcoin and the blockchain were created by visionaires, we may not exactly know their names, but they were individuals breaking the status quo and empowering freedom.
Stampery has grown from an idea some months ago to something that works and people use. Weāre still very early, and we know that, but weāre very proud to enter our next stage and welcome our first employee, AdĆ”n.
AdĆ”n is another one breaking the status quo. Heās 23, yet he has created the most used IM client for Firefox OS, with over 1M active users, and heās a free software lover and hacktivist. And we love that.
So here we go with a quick interview with him!
Luis: AdĆ”n, weāre extremely thrilled to have you onboard. Can you tell us how did you manage to create the most used IM app for Firefox OS?
AdƔn: When Mozilla first announced FirefoxOS I strongly believed in the project and its goals. I always wanted the web to become an ubiquitous platform capable of running the same piece of software in virtually any device thanks to the universal VM that Javascript potentially is. I wanted the emerging OS to progress and I quickly wondered what could I do to improve its ecosystem and encourage other developers to do the same.
Iāve been interested on instant messaging protocols like XMPP for years. So when I heard that WhatsApp wasnāt willing to bring their service to the new OS, I thought āOk, firefox phones wonāt have WhatsApp, but their users will still need a substituteā. Thatās why I quickly started to develop Loqui IM on my own. It aimed to be a multiprotocol IM web client built entirely in HTML5, but at first it really wasnāt as it only supported XMPP and derivatives (Google Hangouts, Facebook, Nimbuzz and Microsoft Lync).
As the FirefoxOS APIs evolved and became more mature, I took advantage of cutting-edge technologies such as ES6, JS1.7, desktop notifications, systemXHR and TCP Sockets API. Precisely this last API made possible to add WhatsApp support. Then it really was a multiprotocol client!
Since then the app has quickly gained traction and as I open sourced the project from the very beginning, little by little more people has joined the develoment and localization process. As of today, Iām only one out of 16 code contributors, 90 translators and about 1M users. I need to thank all that folks for helping to make FirefoxOS an early success in emergent markets!
Luis: As an active free software contributor, what are the reasons that move you into giving back to the community?
AdĆ”n: First of all I have to state that Iām a free software extremist. As such, I try to avoid as much as I can using any device running privative software. Before you even argue: yes, of course I admit there are pieces of code that for security or commercial reasons can remain closed for a period of time. But I also do believe that in the long run, sharing creates much more net wealth than withholding (yep, communism works much better when applied to knowledge than to economics).
So, being a voracious free software user, the first reason for giving back to the community is precisely feeling that Iām paying with my effort, time and work for all those awesome pieces of software that were given to me with the freedom, permission and encouragement to hack them and learn how they were made.
One other incentive for contributing to free software developments are the communities around them. Joining different people from all around the world who are selflessly spending their time just to build tools that everyone can use and improve is a truly amazing experience. In addition, most contributors are always supportive and welcoming to newbies.
Luis: How do you see the future of blockchain-based technologies? Do you think they will help to decentralize society?
AdƔn: Without any kind of doubt, the blockchain has a huge potential for supporting a decentralized society. The first (and maybe most relevant) step towards that goal has been currency. It has been proved in the last years that blockchain-based cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Litecoin are not only viable and sustainable but also more trustworthy than fiat money, like it was demonstrated after the 2013 Cyprus bailout.
Now the next big endeavour for blockchain-based technologies is to address other aspects of our society by defying other centralized authority systems, i.e. registrars, notaries or even parliaments and governments.
I dream of a world where people self-manage the commons wisely without the intervention of institutions. All in all, a decentralized authority is a kind of power that doesnāt need the use of force or coercion because orders and rules are followed just because people do believe is the right thing to do and they trust each other.
So, answering your question, blockchain-based technologies will help decentralizing society exactly in the same degree that people will be ready to change their mental framework and embrace that new P2P way of living, because, let us not deceive ourselves, anarchy also works better for knowledge than for politics, but the process surely worth the price.
Summing up, all of that sounds like an enormous venture, right? But helping to face and overcome impossible challenges is the very reason why Iām here now at Stampery. Letās change society, stamp by stamp!
As I already said, weāre extremely happy to have AdĆ”n working with us to keep making Stampery better and better each single day.

Hooray! We are really happy to announce the release of our 2.0 version, finally!
After some months working hard creating a better product we have focused on improving the current user experience both in what you as user can see and even more in the performance of the platform.
Those are the main changes youāll notice:
Added more API methods, specifically one to search for Stampery users; improving our external integrations not only for clients but also for interested developers who want to start exploring the benefits and applications of our technology.
Added fallbacks for a stronger Bitcoin network broadcast, in case something goes wrong.
As we announced, we areĀ integrating a new, revolutionary way to prove your identity in a decentralized way directly from Stampery: Onename, a NY based companyĀ that lets you attach your identity to the blockchain in a super-easy way. Just type ā+ā followed by a Onename userĀ when you upload a file in the authors box andĀ thatās it! We aim to continue integrating Onename in a more meaningful way in the following months
Welcome two factorĀ authentication! A big step forward to secure what our users store in Stampery. We really care about your data and your personal information.
Corporate accounts. We have a clear B2B approach so we have improved the way in which companies can manage multiple accounts and users with a simple and easy to use dashboard. If you are a company admin just register and go to Account Settings > Corporate and enable it. Anyway, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us and we will help you ASAP.
New landing page. One of our challenges is the way in which we communicate what Stampery does and how we do it. Thatās why we worked so hard on the current landing page in order to showcase the current product, some of our clients and the benefits Stampery can provide to your organization.Ā
Added a simple and concise walk through in the first login. This way, we quickly show some information such as the email you have to add to the BCC in order to stamp all your emails. It doesn't take more than ten seconds!
BTW, weāre hiring! Come and work with us from our beautiful offices in Madrid, Spain. We are currently looking for a Junior iOS engineer (https://angel.co/stampery/jobs/76401-ios-engineer) and a Junior Android developer (https://angel.co/stampery/jobs/76402-junior-android-engineer).
At Stampery.co we've integrated a new, revolutionary way to prove your identity in a decentralized way: Onename. Today weāre announcing the first step of our integration.
Onename is a system by which anybody can link their identity to a blockchain entry. This allows users to regain control of their personal information, sharing it with any app developers that they wish, without the approval of any third party. Social networks can be linked to the userās Onename ID, reducing username squatting and guaranteeing in a decentralized fashion the identity of the user.
This is PGP on steroids. Or, at least, is a system closely related to PGP that achieves something that PGP never achieved: simplicity and, above all, user friendliness.
This is an important step for Stampery. Now, when you certify a file, you can include as authors anybody with a āpasscardā (which is a Onename ID). You just have to type ā+ā + any Onename username to add someone as author to your certificate.
We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected among Ā +300 startups to live the Menorca Millennials experience with another twenty companies from all over the world (US, UK, Indonesia, LATAM...).Ā
The program is based on a 20-day full focus experience to work in a quiet and relaxed environment such as the beautiful island of Menorca, and have the opportunity to receiveĀ inspirational talks from top level entrepreneurs and investors.Ā
Dear Stampery friends, today, we are happy to announce we are introducing the 1.7 version, that is the change log:
Free account: free account with 5 monthly stamps and 5GB for everyone!Ā
User autocompletion: now Stampery autocompletes the authors of a stamp if they are users too
Onename: it helps you to find not only Stampery users, but Onename users. we love Onename and wanted it as a Stampery feature, and the result is really cool!
List view: now you can have hundreds of stamps without going mad while browsing them
Profile views: we already have artists on board using the platform, so we decided that it was time to let them show what they are creating by using publicly accessible profile views
Settings redesign: we refined from scratch the settings view in order to rethink the overall user experience. Now editing and managing your preferences is as simple as possible
Faster: we updated our frontend technology so now everything loads 3x
Email: now all the email addresses for stamping emails are customized with your username
Easier pricing: we now have Free and Pro accounts. Nothing more
Captcha: we had an attack on the signup page (yay! Our first attack!) so this is only for prevention
