idk if this is a young fan thing or new fandom culture but some of yall think fics are abandoned way too quickly. a few months or a year or two is not unusual to go without a fic update. sometimes fics take longer to write, other times writers have rl events, or maybe there's multiple fics and one gets more priority. there are tons of reasons for fics not to be updated every week or every month. it also isn't uncommon for people to come back and update fics after a number of years—ive read updates that took five, or ten years. people's lives change, but they still want to tell their stories. personally, i never consider a fic abandoned unless the author has said so; though if it's been a few years i manage my expectations. but a last update being a year ago is... generally not a sign that a writer has abandoned their fic

Lexi gestures around the room, rolling her eyes at the red leather furniture and the frankly ridiculous amount of smooth jazz CDs lining the shelves.
Fezco laughs lightly, his eyes crinkling closed in the way that she’s grown to like. The little gap between his teeth (that she also grudgingly admits suits him) is exposed.
“You don’t plan on seducin’ anyone back here?” he teases. “There’s surround sound and everything.”
She shakes her head with a wry smile. It’s a weird conversation to have with her divorce lawyer, but there’s something about his energy that makes it okay—or at least acceptable, not totally inappropriate.
A deep breath fills her chest and releases. It’s even weirder to think about living alone, being single, dating. That part of her life was supposed to be over.
“Even if I was going to seduce someone, this wouldn’t be necessary,” she says, mostly to herself. She still dreams of romance, soft seduction, genuine promises whispered into her skin. Lexi shakes her head again, wondering what kind of eternal bachelor needed a tiger print rug in the middle of his bedroom.
“I can’t believe men think it takes all this stuff to get a woman into bed.”
She turns to Fezco, looking for that comforting smile. Making fun of men together had become one of their favorite hobbies in between heated meetings with the elder Mrs. Blake and reading through the fifty page prenup.
But there’s no smile, no exaggerated laugh lines around his blue eyes. His expression is deadly serious, but maybe a little scared behind all that intensity. He takes a step toward her and she can see him swallow thickly.
