For my film, I went to the LAGC (London Anime and Gaming Con) and I recorded a Vlog for the day, talking about what was happening and what kinds of things that were going on. I thought this would be a well enough thought out idea for the festival project as it was something different, but it was also something that I enjoyed attending and recording when I got there.
The film footage itself didn’t come across as I had hoped, but I believe that was down to the fact that the Con was a lot more crowded than I had anticipated, and I didn’t actually have enough time to record as much as I would’ve liked, but this was my own fault as I got too caught up in what was actually happening to remember to film. I believe I got enough footage for the film to be sufficient enough for the final piece, however if I were to do something like this again, I would probably find some solution that would allow me to shoot more footage.
Following on about the footage, I decided that when I was editing that I would make some parts comical so they could spread to a wider range of people who wouldn’t just want to watch a video of myself going around the con and doing nothing that interesting.
The audio worked well, even though I used the mic that was built into the camera. I believe that if I did it again I’d use another way of capturing audio, however now I know how crowded it can get i would ensure not to use anything that would be prone to breaking or being too big to actually interfere with what is going on around me. The phone mic was more efficient with the environment I was in, even if the audio didn’t come out as strong and as clear as I had hoped it would.
In the second section of my video, I interview one of my friends, Hijaz; who also attended the Con and who I had the luck to bump into whilst at the Con. The interview involved he and I talking and discussing the Con, what we liked about it, what we didn’t, what our favourite parts of it was and if we purchased anything whilst we were there.
As I mentioned before, I added some comical aspects to my work. One aspect being Hijaz in the interview. He kept looking at the camera whilst in the interview, which naturally would’ve come across as unprofessional. To save this as I didn’t have enough time to re-record it in time for the deadline, I decided to emphasise the fact that he had been looking over at the camera instead of trying to edit around it and getting rid of it. When it was played back to peers, they found it amusing and that’s what made me decide that that way was the best approach when it came to dealing with a footage difficulty.
I gained feedback from my peers, and they commented that they found the comedy aspect of the film to be rather enjoyable and that it made the video a lot more interesting and fun to watch. It also received a share and a couple of likes on my Digital Self social media, which ties in with Penny’s work as I’m showing what I do here at college.
After receiving feedback on my final piece, I realise that making the more comedic effect worked for my aged target audience (15-21) as most of my peers found it both amusing an interesting at the same time. However, if Hijaz wasn't to have continued to look over at the camera, then I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to make my work that comedic and then I would've more than likely had a different approach to the work, and it wouldn't have had the effect that it did on my peers.
Overall, I believe my work came out well and how I wished it to, and even though there came to be a few problems within the work as I progressed through it, I managed to get passed them by either changing things, like the interview with Hijaz, or adapting around how things already were.
