Adolescence

All in all i think this project was a great change from the ordinary assignment style and helped to engage us more in allowing us to express what our thoughts were on all aspects of adolescence. 

Its worth thinking about what we are doing now and how it can shape the future for better or worse. 

The astonishing reality of the effects of technology and diet changes over the years. Pretty drastic increase!!

An interesting experiment on the influence of peer pressure. Although some may think that they would do the right thing if put in a certain situation this experiment shows that in most cases teens will not speak up or go against the grain for fear of being the one to speak out.

This site although simple is very helpful and focuses on what it really important. Most parents of teens will probably acknowledge that there will be things they wish they could have done differently. It is important to realise that no one is a perfect parent and hindsight is a wonderful thing! Focusing on these small steps and outlooks towards parenting a teenager would have definitely helped me in my teenage years and will hopefully be something I can one day implement into my parenting style. 

This Site includes some really helpful tips on parenting teens. It relates back a lot to the relationship between and parent and teen and emphasizes that if this relationship is strong then it is less likely that a teen will take dangerous risks and will also be more likely to communicate better about big decisions and life goals. 

If not me, who? if not now, when?

Some pretty interesting NZ statistics claiming that sexual orientation may not be as concrete as some think and definitely open to changing along the developmental pathways from adolescence through to adulthood. 

Straight forward explanation and diagrams also pointing out that each is a continuum not necessarily a black or white option.

Interesting take from a different perspective. Why is it so hard for parents to remember that they were a teen once too?

simplifies gender identity and how it is self defined therefore can be confusing when it conflicts with what society defines as gender appropriate. 

Gender roles that never go away, Even though sometime subtle there is still 'a way to be' that is considered appropriate because of your gender. Sad that everything is so scripted with what seems like no room for movement.
