Today was really bittersweet. Today I was lucky enough to get my 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. While I am not a healthcare worker by trade, this past year I became one. Working alongside all of our frontline heroes, I have been able to put my information organizational skills to great use as a medical secretary at Crouse these last few months (while I am earning my Master's in Library Science). I am so glad that I answered the call to help however I could, even though it has been extremely difficult, heartbreaking, and scary at times. I and others have put our health on the line for others, even though this is not my intended career; nevertheless it has been worth it. Today I answered that call again by receiving my COVID-19 vaccine. I hope everyone who sees this will be inspired to do the same and think of others during this difficult time. I know all of this is scary and so much is unknown, but we have to trust science and each other. Speaking as a now healthcare worker and as someone whose immediate family is currently fighting this virus, please get vaccinated once you are eligible. This is how we protect ourselves and each other. Be responsible. Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Get the vaccine. "Time, wonderous time, gave me the blues and then purple-pink skies; and it's cool baby, with me." . . This birthday was one of my favorite birthdays yet. This past year, I have gotten to know myself and value myself more than I ever have before. I feel happier and more peaceful than I ever have. Much of this is bc of the ppl in my life and the awesome things they have helped me believe I could accomplish. My friends bring so much warmth and joy to my life and I am so lucky to have them. My partner is the kindest, funniest, gentlest, and most loving man that I know. This year some really amazing things happened. Nick and I moved into our little apartment together and have had so much fun making a home together. Last week, I got accepted into my full Master's degree program for Library Science at the University of Kentucky. Last week, I landed an awesome new position at Crouse working in the COVID-19 department. These things are so bittersweet bc 2 years ago, I was in the lowest place of my life. Now, 2 years later, bc of the ppl in my life, a value found in myself & some therapy...my life is better than I ever would have thought it could be. All we ever really need is for even just one person to believe that we are worth it and that we can do it. With a loving and stable home, amazing friends, and a love for myself...the future is looking bright...and Ik how lucky I am.
