“okay,  coach.”  artemis  places  her  own  hands  on  her  hips,  perhaps  a  pose  of  determination.  perhaps  unconscious  mimicry.  “what  are  we  learning  today?”  maybe  if  she  goes  through  this  dumb  training,  they’ll  actually  let  her  into  jsa  meetings.  she’s  tired  of  being  on  the  outside.  “because  i  already  have  black  belts  in  most  martial  arts,  including  krav  maga.  just  so  you  know.”

*polycule  =  cindy  dating  cameron,  cindy  dating  artemis,  and  artemis  and  cameron  tolerating  each  other’s  presence  before  eventually  becoming  the  best  bros  of  all  time  actually.

“sorry  my  ass,  you’re  going  to  get  us  caught.”  sirens  wail,  and  artemis  is  hauling  ass  out  of  there,  one  hand  gripped  tight  around  cameron’s  wrist  so  she  doesn’t  lose  him,  smudging  bloodstains  onto  his  skin.  she  would  lose  him,  if  it  wasn’t  that  cindy  had  explicitly  asked  her  to  try  to  get  along  with  icelord  jr.  they  can’t  be  caught  near  a  body,  especially  when  artemis  is  still  carrying  the  bloodied  baseball  bat,  and  cameron  practically  is  a  murder  weapon  all  by  himself.   “can’t  you  run  any  faster?”

her  head  tilts  to  examine  him,  his  clear  exasperation.  but  there  are  few  people  artemis  listens  to  without  questions,  and  fewer  still  that  are  self-proclaimed  superheroes.   “what  makes  you  think  you  have  anything  to  teach  me,  anyway?  didn’t  you  get  killed?”  artemis  crosses  her  arms.  “where’s  mr.  dugan?  he‘s  cool.  i  thought  he’d  be  training  me.”

i’m  happy  that  you’re  here.  “you  are?”  words  startled  out  of  her  by  courtney’s  admission,  artemis’s  face  is  unguarded  for  once,  genuine  surprise  and  --  is  that  a  blush  creeping  onto  her  cheeks?  maybe  she  just  isn’t  used  to  being,  well,  wanted.  for  stuff  that  isn’t  sports,  anyway.  (  maybe  whitmore  really  is  as  nice  and  golden-hearted  as  everyone  seems  to  think.  )  “i  mean,  yeah.  they  better  get  used  to  it.”  she  slaps  courtney’s  shoulder,  though,  in  a  better  mood  now.  “you’re  alright,  whitmore.”
