I encourage anybody, if they have the desire, to go into psychology, especially Muslims of various ethnic backgrounds. Especially those that are fluent in more languages. It’s obvious (I hope) why it’s important for Muslims to study psychology but one important aspect often not realized is that our parents and “people from back home” simply do not have the right language to address these issues - because it hasn’t been addressed much before (due to taboo or lack of knowledge etc). It is difficult enough to find a Muslim psychologist, but it could be even harder to find one who is not English-speaking, who speaks your native tongue, the language you’re most fluent in speaking. Language is very important, much gets lost in translation and many phrases or words you want to use that describe your health the best might not have an equivalent in another language. I encourage people to study and teach mental health but especially to find ways to translate it into as many languages as possible.
I think nobody wants to talk about their family dysfunction because of either embarrassment/shame etc or the feeling you’re betraying your parents or family by being open about the dysfunction I think there’s are societal norms for parenting n all forms of abuse are norms in some way n when it’s talked about its always “my parents did that to me n I turned out fine” or “you’re forgetting how much your parents have sacrificed for you” and my problems w those two arguments are if you really analyze your behaviors n responses you’ll see a lot of them are dysfunctional as well I guarantee not one person who was a victim of familial abuse of any form of any degree has turned out fine and responds in completely healthy ways as a default lol I’m sorry you didn’t turn out fine and it’s okay to acknowledge that you didn’t turn out fine the earlier u do that the earlier you can rework everything and start to respond to life in a healthier way. And also acknowledging dysfunctional family structures n behaviors does not discount from what your family has done for you you’re allowed to be critical of people that have affected your development as a child, or young adult, or even still as an adult, negatively like you are allowed I don’t care how much your family has done for you it doesn’t discount the validity of you living in a dysfunctional or abusive environment n i think the more vocal people are about the abusive systems not just on a larger level like government institutions n corporations army etc like if you start within your family it’s going to make a big difference in individual lives and in communities and eventually in larger societies

Dear friends, it’s been a while since we have requested help with the grocery run for homeless and needy families in Baltimore, but there’s still a great need. We will be doing a run sometime this week. If you are interested in joining in the effort please send all help through PayPal to [email protected] Thank you so much!

In today’s episode of overdoing it..
muslim vs wild
Nearly everyday we hear stories about Muslim people being escorted off planes for the reasons as stupid as “reading a book”, but then there’s these kind of stories…
The difference is the people in the last picture are white and not Muslim, so they don’t fall under the “suspicious” “could be a terrorist” category. it’s ridiculous how Muslims literally cannot wear their traditional clothing, speak their native language or just have a darker skin color.
Islamophobia must stop. Muslims should be able to wear their traditional clothes without being called terrorists. They should be able to speak their languages without being judged or escorted off planes. And white skin shouldn’t give you any extra power or privileges over other people!

صبر
Sabr isn’t passive. It doesn’t mean you do nothing and let everything wash over you. It means striving and not frequently complaining. It means that you constantly control yourself in regards to your words and action. Sabr isn’t easy. Sabr is tiring. But it will be worth it in the end.
