Exhibit A that Gabrielle was meant to be a warrior. She dealt with the confrontation exactly the way Xena would do: with fists of fury. Of course sheβs not at the point where punching someone wouldnβt hurt her. But the offensive side of her still came through. She could be passive to a point but eventually the stakes would raise and she would have to fight violence with violence. Iβm just glad that she came to that conclusion on her own. Her season 4 arc with βThe Way of Loveβ was necessary in that way. She had to learn how it was all wrong for her before she could figure out what was right. What was her soulβs karma.
As for the actual killingβ¦ nggggh that ones dicey. Iβm still grasping with her blatant hypocrisy in season 5. I believe that it was inevitable sheβd become a warrior. But Iβm not sure the slice and dice first, think later scenario was the best way to handle her spiralling. I figured though that it had to be something pretty damn important to get her there. And it was. They had a baby to protect. And she already made a mistake with her own baby. And her life was so intertwined with Xenaβs at that point that I guess it didnβt matter how far she had to stray away from her own morality - because Xena and specifically Xenaβs happiness was all that mattered to her from that moment onwards.
Which then brings us to her final conclusion in βAFINβ. Xena actually became more important to her than the greater good in that only reason why she accepted her staying dead was because Xena requested it and she couldnβt deny Xena that decision in respect to her.
