there were lots of factors that led to wei wuxian’s demise, jiang yanli’s death and jiang cheng’s tears (and of course lan wangji’s distress) are obviously the most pressing of them all BUT that’s not truly what made wei wuxian realize the futility of his actions. wei wuxian had another set of siblings – wen ning and wen qing. and it is their sacrifice that truly topples wei wuxian from his height far above, the sun cast down upon the earth once more. wei wuxian who loves fiercely and believes himself to be a protector, wei wuxian who protected and did everything in his power for jiang yanli and jiang cheng until he couldn’t just stand aside and watch the wens be brutalized and scapegoated, and wei wuxian who did the same for wen ning and wen qing until it wasn’t enough, until jin zixuan couldn’t be put together again, until wen ning and wen qing took it upon their hands to deliver wei wuxian back to grace, back to his “true” siblings, jiang yanli and jiang cheng. wei wuxian who loved and lost four siblings and wei wuxian who failed them all.
