Walking through the picturesque streets of Cardinal Hill, you find Austin Moon Lex Kent, the 31 year old line cook at Evergreen Bistro originally from Los Angeles, California. Living alongside them in such a small town, you know that they're spoiled and spontaneous, but what you might not know is that they are a human, and that they’re hiding something…
A child born into the spotlight, Austin never had to worry about anything except appearances. Whatever happened behind the scenes didn’t matter as long as the Moon family kept their image unfettered. He was a nerdy kid, reading comic books and obsessing over the latest Star Wars film. That side of his life was kept behind closed doors, as the Moon’s to the general public were chic and sophisticated. His father, Larry Moon, was a big Hollywood producer who won the heart of the leading lady, Pamela Dutch, after working together. They became a hit with the fans and developed a following for their relationship, which, on the backend, was nothing short of toxic. Still, it never stopped them, and once Austin was conceived a marriage was required to maintain appearances.
Once he came into the world, Austin was raised by nannies and went to the finest private schools. Everything came easy to him: friends, girls, school. He didn’t need to try when the world offered him anything he ever wanted. Status meant everything in Los Angeles, especially running in the celebrity circles. As long as their image was squeaky clean, everything else fell into place nicely. Austin took advantage of this from a young age. Whether it was getting first editions of his favorite comics or partying in a mansion until a chauffeur had to take him home, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Without present parents, Austin was inhibited in his actions; nothing could stand in his way, even those who tried inevitably failed. A child who was difficult to wrangle turned into a man without a care in the world. What Austin wanted, he got, simple as that.
Everything changed when the truth came out. He was 29, still enjoying the luxuries of his parents’ cushy mansion setup, when shit hit the fan. It wasn’t a secret to the family that his father hadn’t been the most honest man. Austin thought it was normal by then, like the government wouldn’t mind if a man of his stature had been cheating the system. That wasn’t the case. Once they discovered the tax fraud, not even the Moons were safe from the law.
Suddenly his parents were being questioned and Austin knew it wouldn’t be long before his name came up. That’s why he ran.
He took all the money he could and disappeared in a beat-up old Sudan that belonged to his absent uncle. One of those “I’ll come back for it” and never did situations. Austin didn’t have a destination besides somewhere he wouldn’t be recognized, somewhere he could be no one. After never needing to do anything for himself, the adjustment was a shock. He had to do everything for himself. The change took a while, especially traveling on wheels instead of wings. At first, he didn’t stop anywhere, wanting to get out of town, out of the haunting gaze of the public. After a few states, he felt comfortable stopping. First to dye his hair back to its natural color instead of the highlights he got on his mother’s recommendation, and took up the name Lex Kent after his favorite comic book characters. As he started looking for a place to call home, he would stop and see the sights for the first time. Within 3 months, he’d stumbled onto Cardinal Hill and knew he had found the one.
With no proof of an education or references for Lex Kent, he went for the first job that would take him as a line cook (his knife skills didn’t hurt either) and used the last of his money to buy a house. He’s learning and experiencing many things for the first time. After living what he thought was a full life Lex is realizing just how much he missed out on.
will poulter . bisexual . cis male . he/him
he learned how to cook at a young age from their personal chef. he's always had an interest in cooking, watching until the man retired but never having been able to put any of his knowledge to work until now. lex loves to create new dishes at work, even if no one gets to taste them, and usually enjoys them on his lunch break. it's not unusual for him to be cooking at his house, often inviting friends over to try his meals.
after never having a pet growing up, due to his mother's claimed allergy, he's gotten an orange cat named simon after his favorite band.
he has had no contact with his parents since leaving, and he isn't even sure he misses them. but often wakes up from nightmares of being found out by the authorities. making certain no one in town knows who he used to be instead of the man he's become.
