The February weaving workshop ended last Saturday and I would like to thank Koulla, Anastasia, Maria and Khiloni for being such great students! It is always refreshing to have people in the workshop as I spend quite a long time by myself working, which can be lonely at times! This week I am back to weaving and sewing some bracelets. I have been sewing my woven pieces myself lately as I like having control of the whole process; from weaving the fabric to sewing it together into a finished piece. Learn to knit with Alexa and Emily! The Malt Blanket is the first project in The Simple Collection - a learn to knit series with 8 excellent free patterns and clear tutorials.

My latest project from the rigid heddle loom. It’s a woollen scarf for my husband. He wanted a scarf with blues and browns or greys. It’s a plain weave scarf and I used a fibonacci sequence as a basis for the stripes. I finished this one with a hand-twisted fringe.

I warped it up and started playing. I used crochet cotton for the warp and weft. I also used some other yarns for the weft. I sampled Leno, Brook’s Bouquet and pick up stick patterning. I love the graphic contrast of the simple Leno weave (detail photo above), and I will probably use this colour/technique in a larger piece. I’m looking forward to lots more sampling
